First World Problems...

Sigh...the great collar stay debacle of 2026 is in full swing.

Years ago, these little bits of plastic were sturdy and made well. And one could even buy stays made from metal! Recently they have become a whisper of their former selves...thin and too flexible to make a collar stand up and say hello!

And those newest ones that came with the UNTUCKIt shirts I bought to see whether they would work well with an IWB holster? The thinnest in the world! It's a wonder they don't crumble and break and fall to pieces.

The Western world has lost sight of the importance of quality collar stays, and that way lies madness!

25 I have made them by cutting up the lids of yogurt tubs. The thin UHMW works fairly well, and are not stiff enough to jab my collarbones.
You do need to remove them for washing and ironing, they do deform in heat. Eventually I realized I didn't care, and if I did I should buy Oxfords.

Her house unlike mine was probably built since 2000 and the front door lights seem to turn on automatically- maybe because it was dark and rainy today. I hope they turned off , and I hope I didn't do something wrong. We don't have an automatic garage door opener either and apparently I hit it this week unintentionally and the doors went up. Her neighbors alerted here and her husband could apparently close them automatically remotely.

When I had to go in and out of the courthouse a lot, I was part of a group getting training and the instructor mentioned that for the ladies with underwires that the magnetometer would pick them up and suggested that "crossing your arms under your breasts often hides the signature"

I of course almost earned a strip search because I forgot my cell phone in my shirt pocket triggered the sensor as much as the keys in my pocket and belt buckle.

I wear neither Oxfords (actually, I have only one of them) nor blue jeans. All my shirts (and I don't need a lot of them in this casual era) are regular collars which need collar stays - Charles Tyrwhitt are the best, as mentioned by #75. Used to love Oxfords, but I found that the positioning of the buttons and the size of the collars vary widely by maker, and they don't look as great on me as I usually imagine they would.

Omar is in the umpteen victimhood category. Rather than trying to deport her and having to fight it all the way to SCOTUS, Trump should play it this way. He loudly proclaims in an Oval Office press event he's going to show mercy to her, not deport her. Only because she is a Member of Congress. From then on, he and every Republican can call Omar the Dem congressman who owes Trump for letting her stay in the country. Despite her being deportable for lying on an immigration form about her second husband's ID because he is actually her brother. A clear-cut deportable offense. McDonald's was a treat, because it involved relaxed grooming standards, just hop in the car with Dad and go pick it up. We did that about a half dozen times a year, maybe.

Parents in those days might have went out a bit more often, but generally feeding the family was not done at Burger King or McDonalds. Not even close. If it were cheaper - they would have done that, LOL.

That might be part of it for sure. But I've read three different claims from people in widely different forums that it used to be cheaper to eat out at restaurants than cook at home. I can't see how that would ever be the case on any sort of extended basis. Again, if it were, then nobody would have cooked at home, ever.

you can make a very nice neck gaiter from the sleeve off of an old tee-shirt, you just need to sacrifice one of a color you like to cut up. It needs to be long enough to tuck into your jacket collar in front and back, and watch out if you use a pocket tee. (Though it might be good to have some spare place to hold your glasses and a couple ball point pens)

Also, I suggest you use one of your own shirts because every time you wear it you are essentially shoving your nose into an armpit, and it seems less offensive to me to use my own shirts.

He discovered his grocery spending would be 25% cheaper without pre-prepared foods ... and snacks like chips and cookies. The groceries were noticeably more expensive"snacky" when his son did the shopping.

I read some guide that was describing "proper male grooming." Among the gems was the ability to tie a necktie. OK, fair enough - but the author stated that the point of the necktie should just brush the top of the man's belt.

WRONG! Everyone KNOWS that the point of the necktie should just brush the BOTTOM of the man's belt.

I don't know how I can ever bear to go outside again.
