Wednesday Night ONT - September 9, 2026 [TRex]

20260904-IMG_20260904_124317382500.jpg

Good evening Horde! The time has come for mid-week shenanigans of the overnight variety. The bar is open. Don't fret if the bar appears to run out of beer - the beer shed out back is fully stocked. Step up and place your order.

Welcome to the Wednesday night ONT which means another edition of random overnight fun and games. Pull up a chair and join the fun. Good will offerings of amusing puns are encouraged. Pants are optional. Be nice to your fellow commenters and AoS contributors. Special sympathies to those who have braces now or ever had braces.

If you're a troll, go away.

This is a Tucker, Candace, Megyn, and Bill Kristol free zone. Please.

"Tiny" Man Dies While Seeking Large Penis

Influencer Igho "Tiny" Ubiribo Dead at 43 After Undergoing Penis Enlargement Surgery in Thailand

Influencer Igho "Tiny" Ubiribo has died. He was 43.

Ubiribo, who also went by Denisi and Ego on social media, died after experiencing complications from a genital enlargement procedure in Thailand, a U.K. coroner confirmed to TMZ on Saturday, September 5.

According to the medical examiner, Ubiribo suffered a pulmonary embolism during the cosmetic surgery. (A pulmonary embolism occurs when a blood clot is stuck in an artery in the lung that blocks blood flow, according to the Mayo Clinic.)

The businessman allegedly had 40 milliliters of hyaluronic acid and lidocaine injected into his penis at an unidentified Thai clinic in March, per an Inner West London Coroners' Court inquest obtained by TMZ.

In case there is any question, Tiny's procedure is not ONT approved and Ace of Spades disclaims any adverse consequences from any medical advice given or implied on the blog or in the comments.

NYS Fair pays $40,000 to keep $1 potato booth alive with new vendor

Every summer, tens of thousands of New York State Fair visitors willingly stand in one of the fairgrounds' longest lines for something they could make at home: a $1 baked potato.

This year, they'll be getting it from someone new.

Tully's Good Times has been selected to take over the potato booth in the Horticulture Building after longtime operator Wahid Akl decided it was time to move on, ending an era for one of the fair's most recognizable food traditions.

The change comes after the fair sought applications this spring from existing concessionaires interested in operating the booth.

Why did Akl decide it "was time to move on"?

Akl said the decision to give up the booth came down to simple math. Running the potato booth required about 30 employees working two shifts each day of the fair, he said.

While the booth routinely served tens of thousands of customers, the signature baked potato remained locked at $1 as labor and food costs continued to climb.

"We had 30 employees, two shifts," Akl said in an earlier interview with syracuse.com. "You need to serve, clean up the dining room, make sure everything is running. We had a great run out of it. But with everything getting so expensive... I'm not a nonprofit organization."

So how will the new operator make it work if the old operator couldn't?

The New York State Fair will pay a $40,000 management fee to the operator, cover payroll for booth employees and provide the New York-grown potatoes, according to a document concessions manager Jack Davison sent to vendors in April. The operator must continue selling a baked potato or three salt potatoes with butter or sour cream for $1, a longtime fair tradition. In return, the booth's rental fee is waived.

Oh.

Niche YouTube Channel of the Week

Tonight's feature is a YouTube channel called Animagraffs. The content is dedicated to illustrating deep detail with animations of your favorite machines, structures and processes. Want illustrated explainers of the Golden Gate Bridge, nuclear power, the Hoover Dam, off-road Baja racing trucks, a steam locomotive, the SR-71 Blackbird, an 18th century warship, etc.?

It takes a lot of research for the content and a lot of work to build the animation. The channel even has content showing how the content is created.

The channel has over 1.93 million subscribers. Many videos have millions of views. Videos on a jetliner and car engine have reached 19 million views each.

F-117 Nighthawk Needs Fresh Explosives For Its Tailhook Nearly Two Decades After "Retirement"

The F-117 CAD/PAD order list also includes what are described as the "Tail Hook Panel Pyrotechnic Assembly" and "Tail Hook Panel Initiator." These small shaped explosive charges and electrically-initiated detonators, respectively, and are completely unrelated to the F-117's ejection system.

To take a step back quickly, most land-based combat jets in U.S. service today, as well as many in service elsewhere globally, have tailhooks. Unlike their carrier-based counterparts, these aircraft have the hooks for emergency use in combination with arresting gear installed on runways on land.

On non-stealthy land-based combat jets, the integration of an emergency tailhook system is relatively straightforward since it can simply be installed externally or semi-externally at the rear end of the aircraft. It is a more complicated proposition for stealth designs where a hook protruding, even partially, from the underside of the fuselage would negatively impact the jet's radar cross section.

Who new the F-117 had a tailhook (I mean other than every Moron except me)?

I will start considering potentially thinking about concern over re-naming the Gulf of America when people like the NY State legislature stop trying to re-name "mother" to "gestating parent" and "father" to "non-gestating parent." Had a cool surprise this afternoon. Stepped out of the garage to wash my hands in the tire test tub. When I came back in to dry them on a towel kept handy, something flew past my head. I'm thinking "bat, or maybe swallow?" Then it perched on top of my welding outfit. It was a merlin, a pocket-sized hawk. It looked at me, and I looked at it, and said "Hello, little Hawk." Then it took to its wings, and flew away.

82 Western PA was the haunt of Charlie-No-Face, AKA The Green Man, real name Charlie Robinson. He touched high voltage trolley wires when he was 8, lived, but was horribly disfigured, lost both eyes, much of his face. Worked at home during the day, but would take walks with his cane along the highway at night. Freaked out people who happened upon him. He became a local legend. Died in 1985, age 74.

136 I liked to see those really old gasoline pumps, they were elevated clear glass bowls, and would hold maybe 5 or 10 gallons. The gas jockey would pump gas up into the reservoir first, and then gravity feed into the car’s tank. Graduated lines would show the motorist how many gallons were pumped.

Did they make drivers pay first in 1922? When I was young, you pretty much pumped your own gasoline and then went in and paid. I knew I had arrived in the Big City when they didn’t allow that.

Go in first, it’s like a bank vault, only with more security and nothing other than a guy to take money. Then go back out and pump fuel. What a bunch of bullshit

Some aspect were bizarrely mysterious.

We called Pacific Bell, the local telco then. We got passed around and eventually ended up talking to then PacBell employee Scott Adams. There was much mutual fanboying.

176 Flo and Eddie were caught in one of those disputes over the Turtles band name. They toured more as the Phlorescent Leech and Eddie because of that. Kind of like there were a bunch of names for bands with various Yes members in it. I think Squires controlled the name, thus, Anderson, Bruford, Wakeman And Howe, amongst others. Flo and Eddie also guested on the Ramones Mondo Bizarro, 1992.

He only had 180,000 subscribers, which a good total....BUT that isn't going to pay for that Nigerian's lifestyle.

What's this? Nigerian authorities had allegedly flagged him in connection with external drug trafficking investigations? I guess that explains the $745,000 gold coffin the guy was buried in.

You may be right. But every adult US citizen includes a whole lot of people who don't pay dick to the IRS.

I think we all know the media is already writing the stories about Trump bribing voters to win the midterms. But maybe that will fall flat and it will work. Trump's a lot smarter than me and I like most of his ideas. This one just doesn't seem great to me.

I'd argue that it's an awesome political message, while making a realistic moral statement about a large segment of the electorate. Politics is all about winning. We've been playing catch up with the Dems since at least FDR.

Voter participation for midterm elections is abysmal. I'd love to see that change organically, and I think this Dallas event was a great step in that direction. Would it be enough? History has not been kind to incumbent Presidents, and people still vote their pocketbooks.

I don't love the idea myself, but I'll smile like Harry Reid if it works...
