THE MORNING RANT: There’s A Lot of Great News as We Start the Homestretch to the Midterm Elections

Labor Day is the unofficial start of the campaign season for the November mid-term elections. The primaries are over, the phony summer push-polls are in the rearview mirror, and we’re about to be flooded with campaign ads. We have every reason to be excited to go to the polls to ensure an ongoing Congressional Republican majority, and to keep the DSA-influenced Democrats away from any levers of power.

The 20 months since President Trump’s inauguration in early 2025 have had the most significant conservative victories of my lifetime, far exceeding President Reagan’s accomplishments. Here are just a few of the things President Trump and his team have done:

• Closed the border to illegal invaders.

• Deported hundreds of thousands of illegal aliens, and caused millions more to self-deport.

• Slashed the federal workforce.

• Eliminated DEI and wokeness from the military and federal agencies.

• Eliminated EV mandates and green energy subsidies.

• Effectively terminated corporate average fuel economy requirements for auto manufacturers.

• Engaged the military to eliminate narco-terrorists.

• Engaged the DOJ to target corporations engaged in illegal racial discrimination in hiring.

There are so many more milestone accomplishments beyond those.

For decades the conservative base has clamored for the above victories. President Trump finally delivered. Amidst all this, there are many “conservative” influencers who are promoting doom. For many of them, that is their job - being paid to blackpill conservative voters to stay home, so as to elect a Democrat Congress. The resumption of Democrat lawfare against the Trump administration is their goal.

High prices are a problem, and are very frustrating to Americans, because there is an unrealistic expectation that prices will come down from the crazy inflation of the Biden years. At one point inflation exceeded 9% annually according to government record keepers. (We all know it was much higher, and that it compounded year over year.) Inflation is back down to 3%, but even if it falls to 0%, the runup in prices during the Biden years aren’t going away. Wage growth is the answer to this problem, and that is now happening thanks to Trump’s policies.

There is abundant great news on the economic front:

• Wages: The combination of industrial growth and elimination of off-the-books foreign labor is creating demand for employees and pushing up wages. Per the Atlanta Federal Reserve Bank, wage growth is outpacing inflation, especially for those changing jobs, as employers are now having to compete for employees.

• Industrial Activity: As I frequently write about, there is an explosion of industrial growth and economic activity in this country. The re-shoring of industry thanks to Trump’s tariffs and his America-first agenda is one of the drivers.

• Job Creation: The most recent jobs report revealed job creation that was triple the expectation of “experts.” In addition, the number of job openings is surging. More than 1,000,000 new private sector jobs, filled by American citizens, have been created since Trump’s 2025 inauguration.

Here are just a few recent headlines that we can celebrate:

“August jobs report delivers unexpectedly strong news for US economy” [USA Today – 9/04/2026]

What’s funny about the great jobs report is that most media still tried to spin this as bad news, because it could lead to a rate hike by the Federal Reserve. Why would the Fed need to raise rates based on more people getting hired? There is a tired old economic trope (especially when Republicans are in power) that an expanding economy which is creating jobs with good wages is necessarily inflationary, and therefore the central bank has an obligation to raise rates to stifle economic growth and stop the jobs growth, thus staving off inflation.

“SNAP food aid enrollment drops 13% as new federal work requirements take effect” [Fox 11 L.A. – 8/22/2026]

More than 5 million people have stopped receiving food stamps thanks to the Trump administration. This is largely due to eligibility requirements that disallow the able-bodied from choosing dependence over employment.

“Fentanyl deaths plunge 22% as Trump White House touts crackdown on deadly drug crisis” [Fox News – 8/21/2026]

My wife and I have had two different friends lose a child to a fentanyl overdose. In one of those cases, it was effectively the murder of a teenaged girl who did not know she was ingesting fentanyl. The fentanyl deaths in this country have been a form of asymmetric warfare waged by China in affiliation with Latin American crime syndicates. Democrats, open border advocates, and China-loving “free traders” all stand in solidarity with the murderous narcotics traffickers. Donald Trump doesn’t. Instead, he’s taking them out.

This includes 2.6 million illegal aliens, many of whom were the “worst of the worst” as far as criminal behavior.

Beyond the tens of thousands of federal employees that have been eliminated under Trump, their percentage of the American workforce is at an historic low. Meanwhile, the “true conservatives” in legacy right-of-center media are working to discourage MAGA conservatives from voting in November. The “true conservatives” pushed the issue of smaller government for decades. Trump actually delivered, and they’ll never forgive him for it. These are the same “conservative” frauds working to demoralize you and keep you from voting in November.

In my experience, the majority of voters, save for the hard core, vote by their pocketbooks. Gas prices have come down, but they are back up (over $4/gal here in MA). Food prices may have come down, but they are back up - not to mention the pernicious effect of 'shrinkflation.'

I'm on the Trump train, but the man's style handicaps him. As much fun as it is trolling the left about "Lake America" and "New Not Mexico," John Q Public's concern is his paycheck and his bills. Trump has less than two months to convince people that prices will drop. He isn't making the case.

There are a lot of things Trump does that I think are dumb and a lot I support. What I am disappointed about are the things he hasn't done. I have my list and I am sure you have yours. But I still believe the midterms will come down to staple prices, which will drive enthusiasm.

Anyone still whining about what the Trump administration hasn't done instead of celebrating how much they have already done in less than 2 years just wants to be miserable.

78 I've said for a long time that the Republicans will lose neither the Senate nor the House, but in fact will gain in both chambers. I'm with Ben Had on this one.

That said, the GOPe is doing their darndest to lose this election for Trump. If what I think won't happen does, it will be because of people like Thune who aren't - and won't - give the base a reason to turn out for them.

Trump's domestic accomplishments leave Reagan's in the dust. He's on his way towards fixing some of Reagan's most glaring mistakes on the international front as well - starting with Iran. I could care less about the trolling he does about Gulfs, Lakes, or Centers. What's a shame to me is that he's the only one doing this - we're supposed to have a Party whose job it is to do exactly what Trump's doing by himself.

You can look at any monument or statue and argue they aren't worth it but they are. There's a reason the left has been trying to tear them down for years. A country that forgets its history and doesn't celebrate it is doomed to fall.

Yes, cap-subject H-1B registrations (the main measure of new applications competing for the annual 85,000-visa limit) have fallen sharply from their recent peaks. They have not collapsed below typical pre-2021 levels, and total H-1B activity including extensions remains high.

Labor Condition Applications (LCAs, required before most H-1B filings, including extensions and amendments) for FY 2026 through Q3 were down only about 9% year-over-year, with hundreds of thousands of positions still certified. H-1B renewals/extensions were on pace for a record in FY 2026. Cap-exempt filings (universities, nonprofits, etc.) and continuing employment are not limited by the 85,000 cap.
