Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | THE MORNING RANT: There’s A Lot of Great News as We Start the Homestretch to the Midterm Elections![]() “August jobs report delivers unexpectedly strong news for US economy” [USA Today – 9/04/2026] What’s funny about the great jobs report is that most media still tried to spin this as bad news, because it could lead to a rate hike by the Federal Reserve. Why would the Fed need to raise rates based on more people getting hired? There is a tired old economic trope (especially when Republicans are in power) that an expanding economy which is creating jobs with good wages is necessarily inflationary, and therefore the central bank has an obligation to raise rates to stifle economic growth and stop the jobs growth, thus staving off inflation.![]()

More good news: This Saturday just past I attended the wedding of a young woman, the daughter of a good friend murdered by al Qaeda on 9/11. High prices are a problem, and are very frustrating to Americans, because there is an unrealistic expectation that prices will come down from the crazy inflation of the Biden years.
Call me an eeyore or a black pill pusher. I don't care. In my experience, the majority of voters, save for the hard core, vote by their pocketbooks. Gas prices have come down, but they are back up (over $4/gal here in MA). Food prices may have come down, but they are back up - not to mention the pernicious effect of 'shrinkflation.' I'm on the Trump train, but the man's style handicaps him. As much fun as it is trolling the left about "Lake America" and "New Not Mexico," John Q Public's concern is his paycheck and his bills. Trump has less than two months to convince people that prices will drop. He isn't making the case. I've said for a long time that the Republicans will lose neither the Senate nor the House, but in fact will gain in both chambers. I'm with Ben Had on this one.
That said, the GOPe is doing their darndest to lose this election for Trump. If what I think won't happen does, it will be because of people like Thune who aren't - and won't - give the base a reason to turn out for them. Trump's domestic accomplishments leave Reagan's in the dust. He's on his way towards fixing some of Reagan's most glaring mistakes on the international front as well - starting with Iran. I could care less about the trolling he does about Gulfs, Lakes, or Centers. What's a shame to me is that he's the only one doing this - we're supposed to have a Party whose job it is to do exactly what Trump's doing by himself. Best administration in my lifetime - by far. Remember the National Review managing editor Francovitch wrote that the Covington High School kids "spit on the cross" in reaction to the picture of Nick Sandman smiling awkwardly when Nathan Phillips got up into his face with his pow wow drum? Somehow that came to mind and the NR reaction made me more angry than that of the waste-stream media, because they do what they're gonna do. What am I missing, then? It's scheduled to begin construction soon. Are you saying it won't be built, or if it is, it won't cost taxpayers anything? Please tell me what exactly makes it a squirrel? We've got enough damn monuments in DC, along with their perpetual maintenance budgets. We don't need more. The ballroom was supposed to cost $200M of private money. Now it's projected to cost $300M private and another $300M public money. Posted by: gp at September 07, 2026 11:50 AM (Jr5Lq) The problem is that the ballroom is necessary for security.

I’m going to try a new technique I read about here, throwing caution to the wind here. It’s fry one side seasoned well in butter or your favorite till browned, maybe 5 minutes, flip and then add 3/4 cup Chicken bouillon or stock and cover with a lid and poach for another 7 to 10 minutes or so till done It’s supposed to shred easily with two forks this way. Costs for food/fuel were sky high under Biden and his explosion in gov't spending, and importation of who knows how many millions of illegals, sending inflation through the roof... ...and magically, inflation is still with us, but somehow, if we put Democrats back in office, costs will go down when they blew up under Democrats before? It's not unprecedented for a political party to come to an end.
Is it too bold to speak of such a possibility for the party of three letter political giants such as FDR, JFK and LBJ? I will always tip my hat to Truman. He didn't just push the button once, he pushed it TWICE. Had he not done so, my dad would have likely bought it off the coast of the Japanese mainland and I wouldn't be here to type this. Clinton was a lying horndog, but a political genius. Then came the mirage of B.O. who will be remembered for nothing. Ultimately they served up an empty husk octogenarian. Wages, industrial output, employment... I'm seeing it all over where I am. Lots of private enterprise building out physical infrastructure, old infrastructure being cleared away for it, State revenues healthy enough for public spending increases while also maintaining a balanced budget with tax holidays, and so forth. Finances here are in good shape.
But this is very dependent on State law. Federal enthusiasm for growth is great, but it's not too useful in an otherwise hostile environment. If you're in a Garbage State, shit still sucks and it won't get better with Trump or any Congress, because your local leadership are still Commie thieves and tards. This is a key strength, not weakness, for the Communists. They can use a Republican as a reason to go full tilt on all their society-destroying initiatives, with a built-in villain to blame for the destruction. Speaking of job growth -- one of the observations on X is that more than 90% of jobs since Trump took over have gone to women
Posted by: Big Fat Meanie at September 07, 2026 11:31 AM Yes — recent BLS payroll data shows the large majority of net job gains since Trump took office in January 2025 have gone to women. Some analyses put it around 85–86% earlier in 2026; later tallies through August 2026 are closer to 90% or higher (in some windows, women’s employment rose while men’s was flat or slightly down). The main reason is sector mix, not a sudden change in hiring preferences. Healthcare, education, and parts of leisure/hospitality (heavily female workforces) added jobs. Male-heavy sectors such as manufacturing and construction were weaker or lost jobs. Economist Justin Wolfers and others have documented this “pink-collar” pattern. Women now hold a slight majority of nonfarm payroll jobs — only the third time that has happened. The overall job-growth numbers remain modest compared with prior recoveries. https://bit.ly/4qY5Rad Posted by: Clyde Shelton at September 07, 2026 12:26 PM (P5BPp) 152

I see that H1B applications have plummeted -- hopefully the GOP strategerists can play this up as well.
Posted by: Big Fat Meanie at September 07, 2026 12:10 PM (qwx/I) Yes, cap-subject H-1B registrations (the main measure of new applications competing for the annual 85,000-visa limit) have fallen sharply from their recent peaks. They have not collapsed below typical pre-2021 levels, and total H-1B activity including extensions remains high. Labor Condition Applications (LCAs, required before most H-1B filings, including extensions and amendments) for FY 2026 through Q3 were down only about 9% year-over-year, with hundreds of thousands of positions still certified. H-1B renewals/extensions were on pace for a record in FY 2026. Cap-exempt filings (universities, nonprofits, etc.) and continuing employment are not limited by the 85,000 cap. In short: new lottery-bound applications have plummeted from the 2023–2025 surge and are the lowest of the electronic-registration era, but they sit near mid-2010s petition volumes, while overall H-1B usage (especially extensions) has not collapsed. https://bit.ly/4gEGdUv Posted by: Clyde Shelton at September 07, 2026 12:44 PM (P5BPp) 154
