Every record has been destroyed or falsified, every book has been rewritten, every picture has been repainted, every statue and street building has been renamed, every date has been altered, every third-level .name domain has been cancelled. (Neil Fraser)

To explain: .name is what is known as a top level domain. There's no dot that comes after it.

The companies that own top-level domains get to sell second level domains to people. Those people can then use them as the see fit and create as many third (and fourth, and so on) level domains as they want, for free. ace.mu.nu and my own ai.mee.nu, for example.

.name is different, for a good reason. Since it directly models real names, they directly sell third-level domains.

Or did. If you have one, like, say, Neil Fraser, you are about to become nameless.

I really have to wonder what these guys are doing. If they were using the Claude AI for production tasks like spam filtering, yes, that gets expensive. But they're not. They specifically say R&D.

With my personal Claude account - I recent upgraded to Max 5x, the $100 per month plan - I have built two databases, two compilers, and an interpreter, in the space of two weeks, 280,000 lines of Rust and 70,000 lines of code in a language that didn't exist a week ago except on paper. Test suites, custom fonts and UI designs.

Yes, I've been building out specs I wrote that I didn't have time to complete before now, but if Salesforce is blowing its budget this badly that means they are not writing specs.
Also, the emulator for my fantasy 80s home computer boots and runs Basic.

I had budgeted 24k of ROM for the font maps alone. The entire system - interpreter, compiler, assembler/disassembler, floating point library, disk manager, local networking and twice the number of fonts I had planned - currently totals 34k.
All the superintelligentsia went down at the same time. (Ars Technica)

The oil change took little time yesterday, and the gas station still had $3.99 as its price for ethanol-free gas. They asked $3.39 (cash price) for E10 regular -- the cheapest I've seen around here. I could have split the tank between the two products and saved a few bucks.

No, my point is that I can use ai to build pretty amazing apps.

I've built, what I feel is better than Plex or Jellyfin complete with a Roku app, that blows Plex's Roku app away.

I've built maybe a dozen tools, an two iPhone apps, an ERP, a a home server dashboard,etc.

All of these things, in my opinion are pretty awesome.

And I'm 1 person, with a couple of ai accounts, spending a couple thousand year, you have companies with thousands of employees, spending the GDP of small nations on ai, producing literal crap.

It doesn't make sense.

This is super-appropriate, since she grew up about a mile and a half from me and I happen to know that her original hometown newspaper does things like mis-setting one line of type (and actual "typo") in letters to the editor the crew disagrees with, so the writer looks like a drunk, and spelling your name wrong in your obituary as one last kick in the ass on your way out the door.

She livec in the nicest neighborhood in her end of the city (two of her neighbors were statehouse representatives), and described it in her books and interviews as an industrial slum full of rats. When her mother sold the house, for a church parking lot, she made enough to send her daughter to Smith -- but, industrial slum you know. Her grandmother was superintendent of schools. Go ahead, call her Steinman.

87 46 No, my point is that I can use ai to build pretty amazing apps.

I've built, what I feel is better than Plex or Jellyfin complete with a Roku app, that blows Plex's Roku app away.

I've built maybe a dozen tools, an two iPhone apps, an ERP, a a home server dashboard,etc.

All of these things, in my opinion are pretty awesome.

And I'm 1 person, with a couple of ai accounts, spending a couple thousand year, you have companies with thousands of employees, spending the GDP of small nations on ai, producing literal crap.

It doesn't make sense.

How about this: They're letting you play around with their stuff, but anything you create, you can't monetize it. And they're probably tracking you; you are kinda a test person for them.

I think we are discovering, in real-time, that most programmers are absolute shit when it comes to building applications.

What AI is exposing is the fact that far too many poseurs can't write specifications, can't describe something as simple as brushing teeth without leaving major gaps.

Also, because of no honest metric for new productivity, a developer using AI doesn't know how well they are using it. They probably have terrible work-flows, patterns and understanding of what it can do.

Then there are "vibe coders" who don't know what a robust, resilient, secure, maintainable program looks like.

Watched some weather guy's winter forecast on YT yesterday. Looks like the weather will be taking the southern route across the US this winter. Expects the gulf coast states to get constant rain events and potential flooding. Might want to consider moving to Indiana for the season, it's supposed to be mostly dry.

I'm writing a massive SSOT prompt library that governs every element of an enterprise application. Every model, every mapping, every business rule, code style, taxonomy rules, test specifications and a myriad of other facets.

With a simple prompt I can quickly generate pages of markdown with mermaid charts that is oriented toward specific audiences.

One prompt, I was able to generate a end-to-end XPS capability that would take a team of developers three weeks, in less than 20 minutes. It has observability and security beyond what the team was generating before.

Yet to this day, I can't get a developer to not take three days to do a 3pt user Story. They don't want to us AI.
