G'Day everyone
Finally figured out why phone battery was drained during the day. A message couldn't be sent so phone kept trying though it wasn't going to get sent. Phone was down to %50 at lunch time yet didn't use it all day. Posted by: Skip at September 03, 2026 05:00 AM (Ia/+0) 4
Hey Techsters.
I’ve gone down the build your own AI Server rabbit hole. Pixy is there a consumer level firewall that is robust enough for your homebrew AI server? Or a commercial scale that is not ridiculously complex and expensive? When do these two markets get superimposed on each other? When, not if, the AI bubble bursts, the fallout is going to be enormous. And all that infrastructure will sit there doing little to nothing.

Somewhat tech related. I pulled my 2007 Sienna into the street to go on an errand and when I put it into Drive, it just sat there.
Next door neighbor helped me push the car back into my driveway. He diagnosed it as a bad connection at the shifter. Youtube video showed my how to get at it and what to expect. Shifter cable bushing. $6 part at the dealer. It's great. Shifter works again. Now I need to put the dashboard (lower half) back together. Not going to happen this morning. Early tee time. Evening and morning for the first Thor's Day in Sept. this year. I'm up a little ahead of the alarm, but feel pretty rested anyway.
Today I have to run out to the western suburbs, have the Buick's blood swapped out, give it some more food, and drop some of Linda's old clothes at the thrift store nearby. Maybe I'll hit Walmart too; it's right there, and I need to buy a refill phone card. The big Buick is at 100,300 miles now, age ten, seven of those years under my watch. Aside from a faint fading of the paint on roof, hood, and trunk -- some of which can be countered by careful waxing -- it looks almost new and runs like an muscular limousine. Whenever I have occasion to run on a highway or smooth roads, I look forward to traveling in the LaCrosse. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at September 03, 2026 05:31 AM (wzUl9) 22

I'm watching the Shoe0nHead video linked in the sidebar -- well, she's in my follows, and I had it bookmarked to watch later anyway -- and I have to say, there is one very dark and dismal silver lining. All the guys out there who are still braving the crazy (and crazy-making) dating market finally have the perfect test to expose superficially normal-seeming nutbars.
Just ask a woman what she thinks about the Lindsey Clancy case, and the child murder apologists won't even try to hide it, because they're convinced that they're the morally superior and righteous ones. It's wild, but useful, and potentially thousands of men could dodge a bullet (probably metaphorical, but who knows). Posted by: SciVo at September 03, 2026 05:37 AM (ke3zm) 25

Posted by: no one of any consequence at September 03, 2026 *** It is a great long-distance car. Not only smooth and comfortable, and fast, it gets remarkable mileage for a big car with a V-6. My '86 Mercedes 420SEL, the big V-8 S-Class, was much the same, except in the mileage department: 22-24 on the open highway, and that on premium. The LaCrosse has done 34 on ethanol-free gas at 70 w/ the A/C on -- and that was regular 87 octane. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at September 03, 2026 05:39 AM (wzUl9) 28

Wouldnt t it depend on the woman? I think she's a murderess and should be held fully accountable-either by going to jail or being held in a mental I institution .for the rest of her life I imagine most women on AOS feel the same, I think the internet exaggerates things to put people against each other , and because a group of women in pink shirts either on the jury or the ones doing "performance art " on the internet are shrieking in support of her it doesn't mean millions of women in the U.S. are. I think I need another break from the internet today and bad news and the "All women support The child murderess." No, we don't Have a good day, everyone. May you have a blessed day and know that you are a blessing to others. Posted by: FenelonSpoke at September 03, 2026 06:00 AM (rHgXV) 38

The people who get all the attention these days are the "dandies" that Camus warned about. The LARPers. The hacks. The idle rich playing at revolution so they can get attention and embarrass their parents.
You can't exactly ignore them, but they won't be the ones who light the candle. They'll be the ones who are up against the wall first when a real monster comes along. Good morning, Hordians. Her Majesty and The Big Dummy are now in Des Moines for shows this upcoming weekend. They return on Tuesday, having been gone since August 12th. She will be home with a schedule full of appointments before taking off the next Sunday for the two-day AKC Delegate meeting in Newark. When she returns, it's off on that Thursday for shows in Belton. I may get to wave at her as she arrives and departs. Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at September 03, 2026 06:33 AM (eRlcH) 50

The ones going out of their way to make the bestest car-seat confessional about their love of some crazy bitch who killed her children are the ones who have truly learned to love Big Brother. The content of what they're saying doesn't matter, because they know what Big Brother needs them to say and gosh darn it they're going to say it louder and prouder than anyone else because they know what today's Goodthink is.
Eastasia has always been at war with Oceania. There are five lights. Et cetera et cetera. It doesn't matter if it's the old cliche about killing your parents and then demanding the sympathy due to an orphan, in reverse and one step removed. Big Brother has declared that up is down, left is right, good is evil, and so on. After enough years of that kind of training, you spontaneously start applying that Opposite World filter to every piece of social information you consume, automatically.
