A group called Nexus is advertising 153 million US drivers licenses for sale on Russian exploit site Exploit. (Krebs On Security)

They advertised this with a photo of the drivers license of a certain... Brian Krebs.

Uh.

And he followed up by asking 10 friends to see if their redacted data was in the list. Nine times out of ten, it was.

How did this happen? We may never know. Oh.
Here's where it gets interesting: I was able to find my mother's drivers license in this service as well, and the timestamps for her images are just a few seconds apart from mine. That's notable because we both handed our licenses to the Hertz rental car representative at the same time.
Oops.

So Hertz got hacked?

Nothing so pleasant.
Edwards told KrebsOnSecurity that although he did not rent a car in Vegas, he did hand over his license at the TSA checkpoint, at a marijuana dispensary in Vegas, and at his hotel (the Aria). But he said the only one of those three that for sure scanned his ID in some kind of device was the dispensary.
Not Hertz it would appear, but, the company that Hertz uses to verify IDs.
Contacted by KrebsOnSecurity, idscan.net said it was investigating the matter, but the company has not yet shared an official statement or a substantive reply to specific questions sent via email.

Finally figured out why phone battery was drained during the day. A message couldn't be sent so phone kept trying though it wasn't going to get sent. Phone was down to %50 at lunch time yet didn't use it all day.

Pixy is there a consumer level firewall that is robust enough for your homebrew AI server? Or a commercial scale that is not ridiculously complex and expensive? When do these two markets get superimposed on each other?

20 Somewhat tech related. I pulled my 2007 Sienna into the street to go on an errand and when I put it into Drive, it just sat there.

Next door neighbor helped me push the car back into my driveway. He diagnosed it as a bad connection at the shifter. Youtube video showed my how to get at it and what to expect.

Shifter cable bushing.

$6 part at the dealer. It's great. Shifter works again. Now I need to put the dashboard (lower half) back together. Not going to happen this morning. Early tee time.

21 Evening and morning for the first Thor's Day in Sept. this year. I'm up a little ahead of the alarm, but feel pretty rested anyway.

Today I have to run out to the western suburbs, have the Buick's blood swapped out, give it some more food, and drop some of Linda's old clothes at the thrift store nearby. Maybe I'll hit Walmart too; it's right there, and I need to buy a refill phone card.

The big Buick is at 100,300 miles now, age ten, seven of those years under my watch. Aside from a faint fading of the paint on roof, hood, and trunk -- some of which can be countered by careful waxing -- it looks almost new and runs like an muscular limousine. Whenever I have occasion to run on a highway or smooth roads, I look forward to traveling in the LaCrosse.

It's wild, but useful, and potentially thousands of men could dodge a bullet (probably metaphorical, but who knows).

It is a great long-distance car. Not only smooth and comfortable, and fast, it gets remarkable mileage for a big car with a V-6. My '86 Mercedes 420SEL, the big V-8 S-Class, was much the same, except in the mileage department: 22-24 on the open highway, and that on premium. The LaCrosse has done 34 on ethanol-free gas at 70 w/ the A/C on -- and that was regular 87 octane.

Good morning, Hordians. Her Majesty and The Big Dummy are now in Des Moines for shows this upcoming weekend. They return on Tuesday, having been gone since August 12th. She will be home with a schedule full of appointments before taking off the next Sunday for the two-day AKC Delegate meeting in Newark. When she returns, it's off on that Thursday for shows in Belton. I may get to wave at her as she arrives and departs.
