The whistleblower in Attorney General Letitia James' office who said he was ordered to dig up dirt on President Trump met with federal prosecutors for "several hours" Tuesday, sources said.
Daniel Wiesenfeld, a former Brooklyn prosecutor and a lawyer in James' office, had a lengthy sit-down with both criminal and civil attorneys from the FBI and the US Department of Justice over his bombshell claims, the sources told The Post.
The extent of the feds' interest in the case is unclear.

I bet I can name one top-ranking fed who is very interested in this, and his opinion carries more weight than most others'.

Wiesenfeld, who has been placed on paid administrative leave, claimed in a since-deleted Friday email to colleagues that was leaked to the Times-Union that his boss, Investor Protection Bureau Chief Shamiso Maswoswe, instructed him "to find and pursue crimes" by Trump allies.
"If you believe Trump is using the [Department of Justice] attorneys to prosecute his enemies to further his political interests, you should find it equally troubling that Tish [James] is doing exactly the same thing," the email allegedly said.
In a statement this week, James' office called the scandal "a personnel matter."

"This is more proof of the weaponization of the justice system by Letitia James to target President Trump and her political opponents," White House spokeswoman Lauren Bis said. "The far-left Democrats' lawfare against President Trump, his family must stop."

The problem is usually state law, not federal. For instance, here in KY our statute reads as follows:

"No person shall be involuntarily hospitalized unless such person is a mentally ill person:
(1) Who presents a danger or threat of danger to self, family or others as a result of the mental illness;
(2) Who can reasonably benefit from treatment; and
(3) For whom hospitalization is the least restrictive alternative mode of treatment presently available."

Note the "and" after (2), meaning all three elements have to be satisfied. So we have criminally insane people that have been found incompetent to stand trial, yet won't benefit from treatment for purposes of civil commitment.

If a mistrial is called -- and I think it will be -- then she is neither convicted nor acquitted. She still faces the charges and the prosecutor can re-try the case. Or they could reach a plea deal.

Or the prosecutor can walk away.

He started backing up and reaching for his pistol as she closed the 20 ft or so and he shot her at point blank range.

I'm not sure there's a basis for the feds to legislate on this issue. I guess they could tie it to a funding mechanism.

But I also disagree that our KY statute, and similar laws in other states, are reasonable. I think the law should permit taking custody of a mentally ill person who presents a threat of bodily harm to himself or others, whether or not that person would benefit from treatment. Most states have no legal way of addressing these people until the threats touch on some criminal law.

I'm not sure there's a basis for the feds to legislate on this issue. I guess they could tie it to a funding mechanism.

But I also disagree that our KY statute, and similar laws in other states, are reasonable. I think the law should permit taking custody of a mentally ill person who presents a threat of bodily harm to himself or others, whether or not that person would benefit from treatment. Most states have no legal way of addressing these people until the threats touch on some criminal law.

It is a federal law, it is tied to a case from FL on voluntary vs involuntary confinement. Before they (congress is always looking out for you) passed a blanket law Asylums were in every state.

That kid who committed mass murder that they are milking Alex Jones. His mother had spent 6 months trying to get him committed. If not for the stupid law he would have been secured and those kids would be alive.

Did you see where the federal judge basically re-wrote Roe back into the law in ID?

Saying their ban on abortions must include an exception for the health of the mother, then going to basically say any excuse can count as a "health" justification, e.g., fear of the risk of getting an infection from a C-section was enough to justify an elective abortion.

In mom's case, it was just the thing a married woman did. They kept trying until they got a boy. I was the fourth girl, so, mostly a throwaway. I'm sure these days we just say use contraception, which is never an option for Catholics, but back then, only whores used contraception (according to certain levels of society). At any rate, I think a lot of women who grew up with very few siblings have no idea what childbearing or child raising involves, since they never saw it. They are woefully unprepared to deal with it. I know DH had no idea how to change a diaper or that you had to burp a baby. He never grew up around childcare. So it probably comes as a surprise. Plus, there are very few stay at home moms who pool resources anymore. I remember 16 or more kids in our backyard while other moms went to the beauty parlor or grocery store. That doesn't happen now.
