By that time there was a line of about 25 people. Hope they got their opportunity. Went shopping. Bought some frozen things in addition. A Thai resort city is cracking down on prostitution ahead of the arrival of a San Diego-based US Navy aircraft carrier carrying about 5,000 sailors and Marines after more than 200 consecutive days at sea.
The USS Abraham Lincoln is due to dock Wednesday near Pattaya — one of Thailand’s best-known nightlife destinations — along with two accompanying Navy vessels. Police have stepped up patrols around the city’s beachfront and nightlife areas ahead of the visit. Raids over the weekend detained roughly 40 to 50 people on suspicion of prostitution, according to The Independent. “We are doing our best, but it is difficult,” Pattaya police chief Anek Srathongyoo said Monday, noting that sex workers could solicit people in public without authorities knowing. Prostitution is illegal in Thailand, although the sex trade remains highly visible in tourist destinations including Pattaya and parts of Bangkok. U-175 was a Type IXc U-boat that complete three war patrols and sank 10 ships totaling 40,619 GRT.
It was attacked three times by aircraft. Once by USAAF B-18s that caused no damage. Off Sierra Leone, an RAF Catalina dropped depth charges and caused minor damage. Off Dakar another RAF Catalina blasted the boat with six depth charges causing extensive damage including an oil leak. Sub's luck ran out on 17 April 1943 off southwest Ireland when the US Coast Guard cutter Spencer sank the boat with depth charges and gunfire. 13 were killed and 41 became POWs. President Donald Trump on Aug. 31 announced agreements with nine midsize pharmaceutical companies to reduce drug prices for American patients.
Drugmakers including Alcon, Astellas Pharma, BeOne Medicines, BridgeBio, CSL, Kyowa Kirin, Sun Pharma, Teva Pharmaceuticals, and UCB have agreed to the voluntary deals and will lower prices for life-saving medicines used to treat seizures, bacterial infections, high blood pressure, organ failure, and rare diseases. The new agreements align with the most-favored-nation drug pricing framework to bring down U.S. drug prices in line with other developed countries. In exchange, the companies would secure tariff relief. “Under that most-favored-nation agreement, we now pay the lowest price paid by other countries anywhere in the world,” _President Donald Trump Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at September 01, 2026 09:01 PM (VPNgR) 185

One day we were in the liquor store and he drove into a display of stacked liquor boxes. I saw it coming but it was to late to stop him. I don't remember how he got of paying for the booze, lol. Ahh, memories. Posted by: four seasons at September 01, 2026 09:07 PM (/QHx4) 191
Just checked the radar on that big storm.
It's pissing out over Beaumont. Home town of Harry James for you old timers. Posted by: Braenyard - some Absent Friends are more equal than others _ at September 01, 2026 09:08 PM (VPNgR) 192

If I go to Canada, I will go straight to Quebec. Screw Toronto!

Beaumont is in the refinery region. This little storm shouldn’t do too much damage, God willing.

Any military Morons here know anything about Fort Polk? Posted by: Bulg Papaw had the United Methodist Church in Leesville, LA back in the day. In 1969, SP4 (don't remember), won't the Spring Rodeo Bull Riding competition, after being back from Vietnam for three weeks. His unit was in attendance, and they went bug fucking nuts wild cheering for him. Papaw gave Dad his '69 Olds Cutlass Supreme (an SS Chevelle without the badges) because he didn't like it. This made a Big Impression on young Bif. I enlisted in Nike Hercules and Ft. Polk because of that night. I was a dumb fool. Don't be like Bif, avoid Leesville and Ft. Polk. As you know, they launched Nancy Grace into deep space early Sunday morning. Nancy is now 246K miles away from earth, outside the Moon's orbit, and moving 2.6K mi/hr. They're now turning on and checking out various instruments. The high gain/high speed antenna has been deployed, and the coronagraph fired up. Lens cover on the telescope has been opened and so forth. When Nancy gets going that high speed antenna is gonna spew 1 TB of data per day. So Nancy is going to be running her mouth big time. My daughter was at Fort Polk for some training when she was an Army Captain. I don't think she was thrilled with the place. Maybe most humid place around. Posted by: Steamed Up! Before the Big Red 1, relocated to Bliss for training in Stinger Manpads, they were at Polk. Being a safe REMF in the supply room that summer of 82, Pvt. Bewalski made friends with them. Seems the month before they all PCS'd, the regiment had them all paid with silver dollars, and gave them a four day pass. Of course the loval 'ville was awash with silver dollars, then it all went away with the troops before the next payday. What a great fuck you to Leesville! You treated us like shit, here's what you lost. Fuck off and die. Posted by: BifBewalski - at September 01, 2026 09:18 PM (QVmho) Processing 0.03, elapsed 0.0402 seconds. |
