The "NY Post" had an article about Dolly Parton's swan song sung at her funeral , lIf we never meet again this side of heaven we'll meet again on that beautiful
It mentions heaven four times. The headline for the article says the song transcended race, region and religion. Uhh no. It didn't transcend religion. I doubt atheists are belting out about "meeting on that distant shore.." I was not making a judgement about whether atheists are worse people than theists. Now they're all fighting about that." A better title for the article would have been "Dolly's swan song brings people together."

"Google Maps has correctly marked Lake America and the crazies are being crazy."
When the Gulf of Mexico was renamed by the United States to "Gulf of America", Google Maps had three ways of presenting the name, based on GeoIP location of the viewer: - Those in Mexico still saw it as "Gulf of Mexico" - Those in the USA saw it as "Gulf of America" - Everyone elsewhere saw it as "Gulf of Mexico (Gulf of America)" I suspect the same thing is going on now because here in Canada, it shows as "Lake Ontario". Canada installs large Lake Ontario sign in latest jab at US [photo: A family walks by a sign reading "Lake Ontario, Now and Always," unveiled by Ontario Premier Doug Ford at Fifty Point Conservation Area, near Grimsby, Ontario, Canada.] Posted by: m at August 31, 2026 05:27 AM (odBC9) 32
in the BBC article:
On Saturday, Google said it had changed the name on its maps for users in the US. "Since we update Google Maps to reflect name changes in official government sources, which is GNIS [Geographic Names Information System] for the US, people using Maps in the US will see 'Lake America', those in Canada will continue to see 'Lake Ontario' and those outside of the US and Canada will see both names," the tech firm said in a blog post. This mirrors how Google names the Gulf of Mexico for users after Trump declared it was called the Gulf of America in 2025. It's as if some leftists don't feel alive if they're not ranting about Trump. They should just laugh - less likely to cause ulcers. I think Trump
Likes to see them go crazy about basically inconsequential stuff. A guy who writes in the "NY Post" ( Dan Perry) about the economy sanctions and is basically in favor of them says: "Trump had been shockingly effective at selling millions of Americans on the deeply flawed product that is himself. Now he must sell them on endurance. He needs to find his inner Winston Churchill, however preposterous that may seem." Oh man, "Lake Dontario" would have been an even better troll than "Lake America". It's amusing watching the politicians on our side of the border be completely unable to "ignore the trolling". I'm awake, not because of Stirling leaping over me, and having coffee. The big black cat has now been on his diet for a week, and while he is still *trying* to get to Dagny's meal when she walks off from it, I've been able to forestall him. Maybe in another week I'll weigh myself with him in my arms, then weigh myself alone, and subtract, to see if there's been any change.

The latest tropical storm is forming right off the coast of Lousy-ana. If the local Fox outlet's weather mavens are correct, it will track along the coast westward, affecting Lafayette, Lake Charles, and maybe Houston and Beaumont, more than here. But we will get rain; 70% predicted for today, 60% tomorrow. I guess no car wash today!
