I took my 79-year-old uncle to the mall to buy new shoes.

Afterward we sat in the food court. A teenage girl with spiked hair in every color—red, green, blue, and orange—sat next to us. My uncle kept staring.

Finally she snapped, “What’s your problem, old man? Never done anything wild in your life?”

My uncle calmly replied, “Once I got high and slept with a peacock. I was just wondering… you might be my daughter.”

A Republican, a Libertarian, and a Democrat are captured by a cannibal tribe in a dense jungle. The tribe chief gives them a final chance to save their lives:

“Go into the jungle and bring back ten pieces of any single fruit you can find.”

The Republican returns first with ten apples.

The chief says: “Now, if you can shove all ten apples up your ass without making any sound or expression on your face, we won’t eat you.”

The Republican manages one, but at the second apple, he winces in pain. The tribe eats him.

The Libertarian returns next with ten tiny berries.

The chief gives him the same rule.

The Libertarian gets to the ninth berry with complete silence… but suddenly, right before the tenth one, he bursts out laughing hysterically! The tribe eats him too.

In heaven, the Republican meets the Libertarian and asks: “Dude, you were so close! Why on earth did you laugh on the last berry?”

The Libertarian replies: “I couldn’t help it… I saw the Democrat coming back with ten watermelons!”

Liquid Marijuana (also known as "Mountain Smoke" in some places)

Ingredients

1/2 oz. Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum

24 How is Mrs. Kerry? I hope she had a good birthday.

Thanks! Mrs NotKerry is doing better, but will be spending one more night in the hospital before coming home tomorrow (Sunday). The nausea is gone, which is the biggest thing. She had some cardiovascular reactions to some meds today, but those have also subsided. Her body just does not like drugs. She did receive some fun videos from the grandchildren which were very sweet. We will be properly celebrating her birthday when she is fully recovered.

So a couple of weeks ago wife and I are eating sandwiches inBuc-ee's parking in Springfield, Mo. Parked next to us are a man and woman, both 29ish in a red Ford F-series towing a utility trailer. They had two small dogs that looked alike and one large dog who looked like he could be a big dummy....they took the dogs to the dog walk area. I erred in the error in that Miklos Darleen quote above.

Testicles the Great was only off by 20 times, or around 1 order of magnitude when he calculated the distance to the sun. Error in the error, I did make.

Testicles did all that measuring of the earth and Moon and all after his wife Ovariae caught him in a little "Socratic dialogue" with that trollop Clitorides.

He was trying to hide as far away from Ovariae as he could, and was working out distances.

-10 pounds of carrots - $4.99 Can - in the downstairs fridge.

-20 pounds of beets - - $4.99 Can per 10lb bag - downstairs fridge.

-1/4 bushel of green bell peppers - about 30 of them - $10.88 Can - I ate 3 or 4 a day - three left.

-25 pounds of Roma tomatoes - $8.88 Can - c'mon, that's a kick ass price. about 10 a day. Most gone - about 60 left.

I'll be fine with frozen and canned stuff through winter after this....

Dad's 64 Ford Econoline only had a radio...Dad installed an 8-track back in the early-to-mid 70's...the 'best' part was when a song went to the next track, with the interruption as it switched...
The '84 Ford Club Wagon had a cassette player installed from the factory...the cassette from Ford had "Sweet Dreams" by the Eurythmics...surprised that the cassette wasn't burned by my folks giving the obvious nature of the song.

So, long story, but it's Saturday night and we're all drunk, so why not? Anyway, there was this British dude in the early 1900s who decided he wanted to transition from limey fop to feather-Indian. Moved to the Canadian wilderness and made quite a go at the project, wandering around by himself with his hair in braids, writing books of his adventures for the suckers (reading public). Some of his stuff's pretty decent, but one in particular really stuck with me: seems at one point he was having trouble finding any food to eat in the Canadian wilderness, so he was not so slowly starving to death. Even so, when he came across a squishy, fly-crusted, blue and green rotting moose carcass (like how I tied this in to weft cut-loop's comment?), he couldn't bring himself to eat it. So he dug the bones outta the mess, broke them open and sucked the marrow out. Turns out the marrow made him so sick he couldn't move from the spot for days.

So anyway, hey! Why'd you all leave? You left your beers too! You mind if I drink those PBRs?

Something else interesting about Nancy Grace. The mirror was "donated" to NASA by the NRO. The mirror was part of some super-secret spy satellite program that was no longer needed or something like that.

So secret spy tech is being used for this. The mirror alone probably cost about $1/4B, don't know it was black budget stuff. But beyond that, this thing cost NASA about $4.3B

Nancy Grace's coronagraph just blows my freakin' mind. That will be able to directly image (well, see the light so to speak) of tiny little exoplanets orbiting their host stars from 10 to 100 ly away, depending.

Those picometer deformable mirrors are used to just cancel out the light of a target host star, and allow the tiny amount of light from exoplanets to get through. The resolution of this thing is about 1000 times better than previous coronagraphs.

Saw lots of 4H kids and critters. Pigs, sheep, llamas, yak, cows, horses, chickens, ducks, geese, quail, turkeys…..

A few pyrsyns with nose rings and green hair, but they were FAR outnumbered by normal, helpful, courteous young people who wanted to show off their critters.

Ate a rather large, burning hot corn dog. Rat had a root beer float.

Tractors and farm equipment everywhere. And some really cool old logging equipment.

It's well known and non-controversial that basically all drugs and treatments have side-effects, some deadly, it varies from person to person. One drug or treatment can be good for one person, but kill another person depending on all that.

And its also non-controversial that Pharma fucks up and all the doctors and experts on it as well. Some wonder drug comes out, and 5 years later, it turns out the risk was worse than the benefit. And with all the $$$ involved, that gets corrupt fast, with lying and coverups and all that.

But yet this known, and not controversial. Except for vaccines.

Another example of some non-falsifiable hypothesis is if I claim I and the whole word, everything I can see and interact with was created yesterday. And everything is designed to be perfect. My brain is filled with memories of my past, and everything about the world is made to be perfectly consistent with that.

Oh, and just saw this on Berenson's substack. I hadn't been paying too much attention to his stuff lately.

Turns out Tamiflu is not just ineffective, but deadly. There's that risk vs reward thing. A study found that Tamiflu greatly increased the risk of death by in patients hospitalized with flu.

Note this is for patients who are really sick with the flu, not just in general, so don't worry about taking unless you're really sick with it. But it's apparently ineffective for everybody.

Tamiflu has been around for 27 years, and this is the first study actually done to look at this risk vs benefit thing.

Glad you refused. I took the Janssen shot, a different formula, not so harmful. Still got a two-day bout with Covid in mid-2022. Strangely enough, this was just about the time my life went was hit by a s***storm. At lease, the Chinese aren't at fault for that.

Tamiflu targets a certain enzyme used by flu virus. Your own immune system also uses that same enzyme. The higher death rates for the Tamiflu patients were due to organ failure and other infection, which aligns with this immune suppressive thing.

Oh, and guess what? "Independent researchers" (meaning actual scientists not on the interested parties payroll) warned about this from the get-go, turns out.

You didn't hear anything about that, did you? Just Tamiflu is great stuff.

That put me in a bad situation. Hell, I had monthly bills to pay. And I was too old just to quit and hoped to find another job. I was with that company for almost twenty years. So anyway I got the shot, had to bring the paperwork to my boss. Then I was told I would have to get another shot in about a month later. This was another surprise to me. It was like a nightmare that wouldn't end. I went ahead and took that shot when the time came. I also told my boss I would not take anymore shots. If I had to I would sue the company. They didn't bother me anymore.

Here's some of the numbers on Tamiflu (oseltamivir generic name). In that study of very ill hospitalized patients, 14% who didn't receive Tamiflu died. 20% of those who took it died.

But, the group who didn't take it was actually sicker and weaker than those who did. Adjusting for that, and Tamiflu doubled the relative risk of death.

The results are 98% confidence that Tamiflu causes harm. IOW, the risk is worse than the benefit period.

Most albums were roughly 45 minutes total. Sweet! 2 favorite albums on ONE tape. Bonus, you could fill in at the ends with other stuff if needed, or put the extra tunes from one album, onto the end of another.

Roche made about $20B off Tamiflu until the patent expired. They got a big boost in 2009 with the swine flu panic, with govts stockpiling the stuff.

412 It cool here too. Its 60 degrees. We did a ride before. It was hot in the sun but a tad cold on the bike in the wind. By the end of the day I had to stop so Mrs B could put on her light leather jacket. Its always strange this time of year. Hot standing in the sun, but cold when you're doing 55-60mph.

That has happened just a few times in only the most egregious cases. Most of the time, this is just cost of doing business baked in the cake. The executives and managers get away with and keep all the personal money they made off it. They'll do tricks like set up some spin-off company to be liable, which may bankrupt the spin-off and maybe cost some investors and whatnot some money to pay any claims.

But the individuals actually responsible get off scott-free and keep all the money. That has got to change.

Yep, Roche and the usual suspects ran the same playbook on Tamiflu. Announce the new drug is great stuff and publish "clinical trials" showing how great it is. They start using it and $$$ results.

Then along the way, someone gets a little skeptical. Hey, Roche, show us all your data. Roche says, "Nuh-uh, that's not possible, cause reasons". And so, a lot of lawsuits follow, with Roche fighting tooth and nail against disclosure. Finally, govts get in the act and Roche finally coughs it up, but as little as possible.

And turns out the original data was cherry picked, and bad results hidden.

By that time, the wonder drug has become the "gold standard". Sometimes suggests lets do a real trial to see if it actually does help against placebo. "Nuh-uh, that would be unethical, because Tamiflu is the gold standard of treatment, and denying it would be awful".

So, they fight over that. And finally, they do actually do the proper trial. And they find out the gold standard actually makes things worse and kills more patients than placebo.
