506 The Nancy Grace Roman telescope is scheduled for launch on Sunday. I'm really looking forward to the cosmological data it will provide. A sanctified shit ton, in fact. This is going to answer a lot of questions over the years of just what the Universe is doing.

Well, put it this way. There are questions that a lot of the models are wrong, but not enough data to know for sure. Roman will provide that, and show if they models are wrong, or if the discrepancies so far have just been some measurement artifact errors.

So, it will tell if we're wrong. If we are, it won't tell us what's right, but will provide clues maybe.

Reading up on that now. Wow. USGS says their seismic data indicates glacier collapse, not an initial earthquake.

Piece of a glacier broke off, with a landslide and melting ice. That then blocked and diverted a river in a short order, and this was the result. Absolutely no warning this was coming.

She plays a 50-year-old former rock singer living in the guest house on an English estate. It's kind of slow, except when it's abrupt in transitions and quick on explanations, but Helen is as marvelous as always.

I still call them Twitter/X, like SpaceX but different. I'm pretty sure you need to wait for people to stop doing that before you try to muscle your way in on the name. They could just quote one of my comments and say, "You see here where SciVo still refers to our social network in this manner."

Well, they would more likely quote Twitchy, which I believe does something like that too. Then add their continued use of twitter.com URLs in links and redirects, and I think that would suffice. They use the word, and people associate it with them and no other.

Admittedly, IANAL. Yet every American absorbs a certain amount of copyright, trademark, and patent law almost by osmosis, because it's so important to business. And the business of America is business, as someone said.

Speaking of show superintendents, I have to write a note to the Toy Dog Club of Houston with some suggestions for next year's shows. They all have to do with the super.

One is if there are sweepstakes, they should be held in the same ring as the regular classes. I had people asking for armbands and had to tell them that those were at another ring. I didn't have a judging program and couldn't tell them where. Since everyone shows up at the last second anyway, some became quite dramatic.

The second is that for these shows, which have both breed-specific specialties as well as Toy Group competition, there ought to be a hard copy of the premium list included in the ring bag. Nobody reads premium lists except to find out where the show is and if there's reserved grooming, but they do contain the definitive information that can answer questions during the show.

Overview

On Wednesday morning (local time), 26 August 2026, a catastrophic debris flow and flood was likely triggered by a glacial collapse in Langtang National Park, Nepal, near the border with China.

This debris flow and flooding travelled nearly 100 km and impacted populated areas downstream along the Trishuli and Bhote Koshi Rivers, including Gyirong Port, China.

Preliminary media reports and imagery analysis indicate many buildings and infrastructure have likely been buried or destroyed, including a vital highway connecting China and Nepal.

SEE
/ MUDDY WATERS If a creek suddenly becomes muddier it could mean a large amount of dirt and new material has entered upstream.
/ NO STREAMFLOW If a stream stops flowing it could mean the channel was blocked by debris, creating a natural dam. If the dam fails, all the stored material could rush downstream.
