Rubio Suspends All H-1B Visa Processing

Rubio tried to ban visas for citizens of countries who tend to abuse our welfare system.

A Biden judge named Jeanette Vargas, get this, blocked this necessary measure.

federal judge in New York has vacated a Trump administration policy that suspended the processing of visas from 75 countries, including Afghanistan, Iran, Russia and Somalia, whose nationals the Trump administration deemed likely to require public assistance in the United States.
U.S. District Judge Jeannette Vargas, an appointee of former President Joe Biden, set aside the policy Friday as "contrary to law and in excess of statutory authority."
Secretary of State Marco Rubio exceeded his authority by issuing the policy, which "runs afoul" of the Immigration and Nationality Act by mandating "the refusal of visas to eligible applicants without any basis in law," the judge ruled.
Judge says power lies with consular officers
Vargas said the policy also undermines the congressional requirement that puts consular officers at the forefront of any visa decision.

So the Trump Administration goes to Plan B: Stop all immigrant visas while they teach consular staff to vet the living hell out of applicants.

The Trump administration has paused immigrant visa appointments worldwide to carry out "in-depth training" for consular officers to screen out foreign applicants at risk of taking advantage of U.S. public assistance.

"A more prosperous American means ensuring that visa applicants are not likely to become a public charge, as defined under U.S. law and regulation, and not likely to become dependent on U.S. public benefits reserved for qualified Americans in need," a State Department spokesperson told The Hill in an email Wednesday.
The spokesperson said that a global, in-depth training initiative was launched in early August at all U.S. embassies and consulates worldwide and that "appointments for visa and services will be adjusted."
"Whenever there are changes to visa interview appointments, embassies and consulates communicate any changes directly to visa applicants," the spokesperson said.

The pause on visa applications coincides with Trump's hard-line tack on immigration, where the administration has boasted about revoking more than 175,000 visas from individuals it said had violated the terms by committing criminal offenses, but that largely relied on encounters with law enforcement. The administration announced on Monday it was working to revoke short-term visas from individuals who used them to enter the U.S. and then file asylum claims, with some reports claiming the administration has a goal of canceling 200,000 visas.
The administration has also prioritized revoking visas and permanent residency, or green cards, from people who it deems are a threat to U.S. national security, but advocates say officials are targeting people over protected free speech like political opinions and attending pro-Palestinian protests.

I want to address something from the last thread though, as an answer:
Why haven't the wastelands of the West been turned into data center farms, with on-site nuclear power and solar for backup?

Data centers need two things and really want a third

1) Power, which a local nuke would definitely help with
2) Water, to cool the processors until they figure out a way to make them work without generating self-melting temperatures

Neither of those are available in the middle of the Nevada desert. Building your own power plant definitely would help but they take years and billions so its not exactly practical.

3) Being near civilization. Its not that they have to be, you can transmit the data and commands etc back and forth but the closer the safer and higher quality of transmission. Its just better that way.

It's to avoid the costs associated with having the employee here. Health insurance in India is far cheaper than here. For example.

Our K1 application only worked as an immigrant visa. Our interviews were cancelled 3 days before, and we had to refund hotel tickets and stop all our travel plans before we lost everything. We are devastated.

For states, it is necessary for federal law in its particular areas to override the states and Gibbons v Ogden is actually pretty savvy in allowing both federal and state regulation to coexist on commerce.

For overturning other federal laws, it is notable that Scotus did not overturn another federal law until Dred Scott.

And you can blame Congress and the presidents in part. In many cases, judicial review is built into the statutes themselves such as the APA or criminal law. Neither Congress nor the executive have shown themselves to be willing to be limited by the Bill of Rights much either.

The problem is NOT judicial review so much as our judges are unaccountable to the ultimate sovereign, the people of the US and when they rule on policy matters, they usurp the role of popularly elected officials that are. Especially on spurious grounds like Resistance judges use.

His deportation order is final, and there's no legal question about it anymore (there seems to be an open question about which country he'll go to which is unresolved, mostly because USCIS won't reveal it until they're deporting him).

Ok, I'll grant you that if you have water in abundance, it might make economic sense to use a lot of water. But, you don't have to. If you are in a location where water is a scarcity, or even if the local authorities want to treat it like it is scarce when it may not be, a closed loop system is definitely doable. Data centers don't *need* to use a lot of water in order to operate.

And, yes, the heat has to go somewhere. But, dispersing it into the outside air works nicely.

Unhinged types that are on the periphery of politics are often used for political scutwork and then disposed of when they become an embarrassment or no longer useful. Eh, we are in the stage where heritage Americans and their views are not really relevant here. Basically empires end up with the inner Praetorian Guard and wealthy donors calling the shots.

I think most of our politics since the Cold War has been shadows on the wall for the public and only the inner circles of the ruling class knowing a little of what is going on.

When a change agent like Trump shows up (as it did when you got a few competent emperors trying to address internal issues in Rome or the Byzantine Empire), the whole rotten insiders to the system revolt.

Chillers work by running water pipes to inside CRAH units that direct the indoor hot air over the pipes, cooling the air. The pipes return to the chillers outside, where air is used again to take the excess heat.

I compared it earlier to a radiator in a car and it is very much like that.
