2 tech from the ONT:

81 Evening, Doof, and ONT Horde! T-storms here, too. Had a power bump 15 minutes ago that shut down the computer. Got it rebooted OK, but the monitor was whack. Unplugged power from monitor, restarted it, all's well! Just as I was about to open the ONT, another power bump. Back to Square One. Sheesh!
Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at August 23, 2026 10:38 PM (1z8ji)

My monitor's been wacky and I'm going to try this procedure: unplug power from the monitor, restart.

6 Except that the evil Flock is on a charm offensive. They have been putting out ads on YT that talk up how they saved a kidnapped little boy. So sign over your freedom to them and their cameras. You have nothing to hide, right?

(If I have anything to hide myriad agencies would have found it years ago. It’s beside the point.)

8 Since Pixy's up...

Damnable Windows 11...
Latest update happened the other night...today noticed my taskbar has horizontal lines (5 of them, sometimes 5 double lines). Some weird aliasing or refresh issue, but only affects taskbar. Looked online, I'm not the only one with this issue.

20 I think a good tactic, if it isn't already being deployed, would be to agitate for a strict law that these dumbass cameras are not allowed to have any kind of view of any kind of window on any kind of residence.

If only there were some kind of American organization, maybe a Union, if you will, that focused on things like Civil Liberties....

22 Had a nice time at the 4H fair. One nice thing about the fair in seeing all the cute kids in strollers or little older kids with their parents . There was one
little girl with lovely red hair -maybe about three -taking a piggy back ride on her dad and looking delighted. I also enjoyed seeing the kids eating ice cream cones and enjoying the miniature horses -and the goats and sheep's. It brings me back to years ago attending the fair as a kid.

Novak Djokovic in his documentary on why he refused the COVID vaccine:

"Because I didn't need it. Why should I get the vaccine? I'm healthy, I'm an athlete. I had corona. I had immunity. I wasn't a threat to anyone. There was no reason for me to get vaccinated. It's my freedom to choose which that fundamental right that you have as a human being on this planet — the freedom to choose — which was taken from a lot of people."

I'm not ripping on the guy with this micro-screed, it's just that it triggered a flurry of follow on thoughts.

You don't have the freedom to chose, more often than not. The world doesn't care about your wishes and desires, or even your needs. You don't get to chose if you get hit by lightning or get cancer or get mugged. You can, though, chose to take certain steps to mitigate the risk of those things. We don't have some fundamental Human Right to Make Choices. What we do have is the right to not have what precious few choices that we can make in life taken from us.

It's kind of like a Negative Liberty, I guess.

41 Awake I am, sipping coffee, wondering if I can find my workout motivation -- I think I saw it scurry under the TV stand when I turned on the lights. Early morning temps are almost certainly not going to be any better soon, so waiting until tomorrow is pretty pointless.

Last night, with Movies! having technical troubles, we watched a 2018 film called Black 47, a revenge drama set during the Irish Potato Famine. Hugo Weaving of The Matrix led the cast. It bore some resemblance to Westerns: The hero deserts from the army and comes back home (Ireland) to find his family starved to death or being dispossessed from their homes. He goes on a revenge mission to find and kill the people responsible.

It has every single feature of modern movies I hate, the silvery-grey, washed-out look of outdoor scenes, the darkness of indoor and night scenes, the lack of real heroism (though there is a moment at the climax where that's not true), an ambiguous ending, and more. The Outlaw Josey Wales was better.
