Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | MORNING RANT: The Data Center Wars - A Massive Proposed Data Center in Texas Drops Request for Tax Abatements![]() Pacifico Energy told KVUE it made the decision after hearing concerns from residents. “We withdrew our Chapter 312 and JETI applications because we heard the community clearly,” the company said in a statement. “The Cedar Creek Campus is not seeking any tax incentives and will pay its property taxes in full, like any other taxpayer in Bastrop County.” The change was welcomed by some residents who have opposed the project. Josh Mincher, a Red Rock resident, said taxes were one of the community's primary concerns. This is great news – just build it without taxpayer subsidization. In addition, Pacifico will build its own natural-gas fired electricity generating plant on the site. Another issue facing data center developers is the enmity that the tech industry has earned. During the great awokening, the tech bros were happy to be a censor of forbidden opinions while jamming the woke agenda down our throats. Tech has subsequently embraced an unpatriotic purging of American labor to be replaced by cheap foreign labor, either by offshoring, or by importing foreign H-1B labor. On top of that, many industry leaders engaged in naïve and destructive crowing about how AI will eliminate millions of jobs. They dug themselves a deep hole. But what is great is that the tech industry has now come to realize that despite their “clean energy” posturing during peak-woke, there is no way to power their future without abundant, reliable energy that can only be provided by fossil fuels or nuclear energy. I welcome their rejection of green energy, the core tenet of the Church of Climate. I’m excited for the tech industry to be my ally in the war on the globalist climate cult, and this is a start. In addition, if “my team” is going to support tech building data centers, while also getting reliable electricity from fossil fuels, my team will also have leverage to make tech start being better corporate citizens who prioritize America and fellow Americans. Returning to the Pacifico Energy data center in Texas, I applaud the local residents for being opposed to subsidizing it, and I applaud Pacifico for proceeding without subsidization, while also building a new power plant powered by fossil fuels.

I think the tax abetments are really just bribes paid to local politicians. Same goes for reduced or subsidized utilities. The local politicos get a payoff up front and enact legislation on the backside to favor development. Of anything. Datacenters, shopping centers, distribution centers, housing, etc.

I am undecided on data centers for now.
Positives: Jobs Staying ahead of the godless commies and Eurotards Negatives: Huge demands on power and land (especially GOOD FARMLAND) Tying up too much of our wealth on something that seems highly speculative The biggest problem with this issue, RIGHT NOW, is that things are happening TOO FAST with TOO LITTLE good information being shared on the reasons for them being built and the impacts on energy and water. We have one side screaming "THE MUST BE BUILT NOW" and the other side screaming "THEY MUST NOT BE BUILT". My reaction to that is Stop, Look and Listen. As we were discussing in the morning post, AtC may have valid arguments.
But she cannot disagree without being disagreeable. And too much of the "anti" side of data centers is founded upon falsehoods. Which too many folks on the right handwave away as, "yes but see these other points are valid." So? The main arguments against it are false, then pointing out lesser, valid arguments against instead is not much better--when the main arguments are ... well, the main arguments. It's like arguing against Trump's widely popular "build the wall" with "but building the wall may disrupt delicate desert habitat." Yes, that's true. But stopping illegal immigration via unrestricted border crossings is far more important than the (maybe valid) opposition due to environmental concerns. IIRC, once upon a time Texans welcomed all manner of ugly smelly construction near their homes. It wasn't because they were particularly conservative, especially in the east. Back then they voted for Democrats all the time.
The reason was because Shell Oil and Dow Chemical and all the other big polluters used to invest in the communities. Deer Park had some of the best schools in the nation. Place smelled like buffalo ass. What happened was a "Robin Hood Law" which forced the better districts (which were often in chemical toilets) to play for worse districts (the ghetto, but hey, no oil well). This sort of "well-meaning" political football encouraged Shell and Air Liquide and all the other corpos to say, "well... fuck you guys then". It would be nice if all tax abatements everywhere were stopped and businesses just had to find the best deal - meaning, a place with, say, business advantages like location, labor force, and consistently low state and local taxes.
Like I said, it would be nice. There is an abandoned store that has been sitting collecting nothing in the nearby dump, er, town that would make a good small data center. It would probably be the most new economic activity the town has seen in ever. Posted by: Cow Demon at August 24, 2026 11:33 AM (jPziU) 88

The new DCs have a closed loop cooling system, so the water use is minimal. If they also have a dedicated nuke, for which they paid, the objections become less urgent. I don't know about the noise, though, and they will never be attractive. Remember, though, the reason they are built close in is latency. Seems like something the developers and financers of these things would be interested in looking into. What’s wrong with a data center paying for the water like anyone else? Because increased demand without increased supply = price increases. There's a difference between hooking up some more homes, and data centers, which do use a metric f***ton of power. They then drive the overall build out of the power system. It's much better to make them have their own power source. Posted by: Archimedes at August 24, 2026 11:53 AM (Riz8t) 155

Posted by: ballistic at August 24, 2026 11:50 AM (oqH4h) Porn. PIED. Porn induced erectile dysfunction. You have guys in their formative years who change their brain chemistry to react to women in a specific way- and then watch other people doing it. This is not like when we were growing up where you might find a Playboy, Penthouse or maybe a Hustler in some guy's dad's closet. They have everything at their fingertips in a matter of seconds. True, but only because few have given serious thought to what would happen if the data centers go away.
The answer is staring us in the face. Closed loop cooling, bespoke nukes, and that's the direction the industry is moving. Posted by: Archimedes at August 24, 2026 11:49 AM (Riz8t) But til this got 80-20 against, no one was looking for answers...and VA, no one is saying they are gonna build those nukes for all the already built ones... So, voters want no more...and taxing them to leave is an option - it will take pressure off the grid. And in NoVa, that land could still become something else. Those data centers make the least sense b/c of the value of the land itself...and the population density of the area...it only made sense for Fed Gov to have close data centers for their surveillance use... The government shouldn't finance any industry. Let the market do its thing. Government gets in the way of industries, yet they thrive (prostitution, drugs, loan sharks). If a business has a product or service that people want, then the government doesn't need to spend our money to help that business bring the product or service to market.
Think sports stadiums. The people who are financing venues costing hundreds of millions of dollars are often unable to afford a ticket to attend an event at the very venue they paid for with their tax dollars. If data centers are the wave of the future, the government can probably help by simply doing nothing and stepping out of the way. Welfare--personal and corporate--is choking us and will collapse the fiat money system we created and are abusing. God help our offspring. Posted by: windbag at August 24, 2026 12:21 PM (Few4S) 215

It will absolutely wreck the local water supply (which is already strained), it is getting all kinds of incentives, the building will be done by foreigners and long-term staff will be maybe 20 people, and they will increase our electricity even more to cover the connection to the local grid.
I am absolutely opposed to any of these developments because these retards haven't shown that they deserve trust in any capacity. Plus LLM technology just sucks and it's going to burn out in less than 5 years, anyway, so we should absolutely wreck the local environment and economy for 60 months of VC-subsidized cat pictures and homework cheating. My class was the last before they went co-ed. Posted by: gp at August 24, 2026 12:34 PM (Jr5Lq) I'd have to look and see if I can find when he was there. Not sure if it was coed or not. I just no my mom did his homework for him. Posted by: Sponge - F*ck Cancer at August 24, 2026 12:51 PM (ccf/V) 227
I have long said that Greenland would be a great place for datacenters.
A lot of remote unused land Naturally cold to aid in cooling the data centers We have a military base in Greenland for security We have a large cable line connecting Greenland Build a couple of Nuke plants for power and what's not to love?
