A note about sources. The brick & mortar/online divide exists with cigars, as with guns, and most consumer products, with respect to price. As with guns - since both are "persecuted industries", basically - I make a conscious effort to source at least some of my cigars from my local store(s). It's a small thing, but the brick & mortar segment for both guns and tobacco are precious, and worth supporting where you can. And if you're lucky enough to have a good cigar store/lounge available, they're often a good social event with many dangerous people of the sort who own scary gunz, or read smart military blogs like this one. -rhomboid

Per the internet: RemArms owes $11 million to local contractors for work on the new plant. The contractors have filed liens against RemArms. There are now lawsuits in courts in Delaware and Georgia with allegations of mopery and dopery that go far beyond a simple manufacturing company just having some cash flow problems starting up a new plant.

But I also know that a .45 cuts a larger hole than a .22.

I think a W-38 warhead with a 3.75 megaton yield will make a much bigger hole ... even if I am a bit off the paper!

Range report:

Rough week with Lucy the Fink being back in urgent care. Stress at work. Traffic jam on the way to the range.

Stress bombed 50 rounds of 9mm center target at ten yards in about five minutes.

Aaaaaaahhhhhhhhh.

Then relaxed and plinked 100 rounds of .22.

Shoulda brought a shotty. They always make me smile.

Shooting is therapeutics and relaxing and stress relieving. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise.

21 I have heard a rumor, unreliable I hope, that a commenter, who does comment on this august August thread, and therefore should know better, commented that 10mm shooters are the atheist vegan Crossfitters of gun ranges.

10mm shooters are, IME, generally quite knowledgable, and generally proficient, much like .41 Magnum shooters.

To imply that they are loud in proclaiming the superiority of their chosen calibers, like those who prefer rounds in .32 caliber, is incorrect, and, indeed, scurrilous to an extreme.

We recently had a week where the coolest high temperature was 105 degrees. The hottest day was 110.

I was afraid my ammo might cook off with a firearm just resting on the shooting table!

Ok, I will stipulate that, with the provisos that getting it to launch reliably could be problematic, you are likely to need some sort of shoulder-mounted launch system, as holding it only in hand could be problematic, and assuming you get it to launch, somehow in the general direction of the sought-after X-ring, and don't flinch from the recoil, you may be a little close to the blast radius.

A .22 that one can reliably hit what one is aiming at beats larger caliber weapons that are hit-or-miss.

I have a Range Report!
The DMV MGC had a new recruit today. She had the competent support of Ed L and Iris for her premiere outing. Also present Blaster, Hrothgar, Stinky's Daddy and myself your intrepid reporter.
I also made a new purchase, got exactly what I wanted. Now I have to wait for it to arrive in MD to complete it and then wait 7 days to get it into my hands.
I have to buy 380 ammo. Can someone give me advice on grain weight?

The Tex thing…I’m busy, but everyone there acted like they tolerated me, and some even laughed at some of my jokes. But you never really know until you put it out there.
So i want to see if I am able to go again…
I’d love to, but my work schedule is hellacious.
But mental health is critical, and shooting helps that!

Honestly I can’t tell the difference. Just get what’s on sale and start shooting. You can fine tune with grain weights after several thousand rounds.

90-95 grains works for me. Try it in Full Metal Jacket. If it cycles well, try it in Jacketed Hollow Point.
But if you have to use it in real life, it may expand poorly after going through layers of clothing.
So shoot them in the face.

44 A lot of the pistol ammunition has been loaded "down" from original factory specs. Probably cheaper that way. I do like Buffalo Bore ammunition for any serious work, should some of the small calibers every be called upon for things other than punching paper.

At this point, you would probably appreciate a more serious answer.

I'm assuming you want this for SD. I generally try to match my practice (FMJ) and SD (HP) ammo weights, so they will (in theory anyway) hit to the same point of aim.

Since most non-esoteric .380 ACP loads use 95 grain bullets, this usually isn't an issue.

Some folks don't consider HP in .380 a reliable expander, and therefore use FMJ for both range and SD.

My solution to this is to alternate HP and FMJ for SD usage.

The best I can do is look at the couple of 380 boxes I have and they’re 90 and 95 grain. I don’t know if that helps since my shooting skills are as rusty as the Tin Man when Dorothy found him.

53 Clarification: Alternate HP and FMJ is the same magazine.

Be sure to test the HP you'd like to use by using it exclusively for 200 to 300 rounds for feeding issues. If it passes, you can use it, or alternate with FMJ, as you please.

If it doesn't pass, try another brand.

55 Great time at the range this week. Practiced some techniques/suggestions given by Weasel at the NOVA pre-meet with my Colt Detective Special - thanks Weasel!. Single action accuracy was great, and able to shoot in pretty rapid succession. Double action, well, needs practice. Topped the session out shooting an M-1, CZ 600 30.06, and a S&W .357 Magnum. I'm still smiling.

Yeah, Sharon. Although small, .380 means you can carry everywhere.
But practice a lot with it. In a small frame, it’s not particularly pleasant. I have a wrap-around Hogue on my Ruger LCP that helps with retention and grip.
Even with rudimentary sights, the extra long pull makes me focus on front sight, and I’m quite accurate with it.
Within minute of face.

60 I'll probably start with FMJ, 95 grain. I don't have my CC permit yet so I need to get comfortable with it first. Make sure we are a good team. Eventually want to,put the Viridium optic on it but the iron sights seemed pretty clear, a bright green, so,want to learn the gun first.

69 I did something crazy this week, I bought a Benelli B76. Will probably be the wierdest thing I own. Hope to get this week and shoot on Fri.

Will probably only ever have 1 mag for it as they go for ~$200 if you can find them.

75 My only .380 is a CZ-83. Most naturally pointing handgun I've shot, but too heavy for carry, which I don't anyway. The weight makes it very mild in terms of recoil. Initial double action pull seems to send first round low absent extreme counter-measures, but single action that follows is easy.

Think I got the Hornady SD ammo after finding it to have the best penetration/expansion results in, probably, the Lucky Gunner test data. I only reload range fodder so I use 90g bullets. I'm using up my 700X acquired as "all there was available" during the last panic, but it works well.

Dang .380 cases from the CZ-83 go about 30 feet on a concrete deck, so recovering brass is a challenge.
