Something I learned recently... Arizona (the State) does not do Daylight Saving Time. But but but - the Navajo Nation does! So if you're staying overnight in the campground in Tuba City make sure you adjust your clock so you don't miss the 11 AM check out time.
Note: our phones and GPS devices did NOT adjust. They stayed on Standard Time.

Reminds me, old school American electric Alarm clocks ran off the 60hz line frequency for 120 volts AC. When military members would arrive on US bases in Europe, they had 120 volts AC, but the line frequency was 50hz. This causes the clock to run a lot slower, and the poor bastard would end up being an hour late or whatever by the next morning. Oops. They warned us about that during the inbriefing. Wind up Westclox backup for the squared away hooah hooah types anyway.

We had left Kingman late morning and had a late lunch in Flagstaff in Little America. I was going to go north from Flagstaff to the South Rim but missed my turn and backtracked 30 miles to Williams. We finally got to the south rim around 5. After messing around there for a while we exited the east entrance to the park around ?. We finally got to Tuba City at what I thought was 8:30 PM only to find it was 9:30!
No big deal. We survived even though we had to hook up camper in the dark.
Just after an already long day to lose another hour was disappointing....

Over the long term, they keep the grid in sync with UTC. There will be variations due to load. So over the short term, it will drift, but over the long term, months, a frequency counting clock should track UTC well.
Leap seconds are a big example there. You don't just step the grid cycle count on a dime.

Apparently, flyers of the India persuasion have decided that they are going to grab all the airport wheel chairs so they receive preferential boarding and treatment on international flights. This isn't just a sporadic event. It happens all the time and at every airport world wide. It's so bad that flights with a significant number of Indians on them are always behind schedule. And, it messes up flight schedules downstream every single day of the week.
It's insane.

The enclave thing is just crazy, IMO, "non simply connected" areas. They can't do that with congressional districts, but there you go with time zone boundaries.
I'd be interested in how well some "geographically area" device tracks those little boundaries. Would you see it jump back and forth as you stepped back and forth across the boundary?

All involved agree that the "Anasazi" - the ancestal enemies - were not indigenous to Chaco Canyon. They'd migrated up from Mesoamerica and taught them human sacrifice and cannibalism. Then the people of the area booted them out and migrated to the pueblos they now live in.
We huwites and Latinos don't like those bastards either... nor did a lot of Mesoamericans, which is why they allied with us against the Aztecs.
I'm fine with restricting "Anasazi" to the demon worshippers and not applying it to the Hopi / Navaho / etc.

Got all* the black paint stripped, finally, of my project dune buggy body tube. And the hood/dash panel, which I had neglected until today. Still have to D/A sand most of it to get rid of a thick layer of high-build primer.
*for some values of "all", namely all the paint that could be reached by a variety of power-operated sanding tools. There are a few dribs and drabs that will have to be hand sanded, or scraped.

I tried to get on with a big manufacturing firm. You've heard of them. They have this laborious hiring process. A couple hours worth of testing at the computer for aptitude and all that stuff, and three (3) separate hour long interviews. One guy was very impressed with my resume, and I took that as a good sign.
What was obvious though, they patterned the entire thing as if they were hiring office people at a high corporate level. Some of it is applicable, but this was for line assembly stuff. Not inter-office politics where Jan is really pissed off at Debby. I actually went through it a couple few times, on the assumption they really want to see how much abuse somebody is willing to put up with.
They didn't hire me, but at one point out of the blue sometime later they called me up and encouraged me to apply again, and take the test, and the interviews... Again again. 9 hours worth.
I told them "You have all the information you need about me by now. I don't know what to tell you. I'm ready to go to work, otherwise forget it.

Right now, Polaris is about 0.7 degrees away from the celestial pole, about 1.4 Moon widths. But it is getting closer. Around 2100 AD, it will be at the closest, a little less than one Moon width. After that, precession will slowly drift it away.
It wasn't really until 1500 AD or so that Polaris got really close enough to be called the pole star.

During the time of the ancient Egyptians, the pole star was Thuban. By about the year Zero, the pole was a empty patch roughly halfway between Kochab and Polaris.
Kochab was closer to the pole in the time of the Ancient Greek Homos.
Polaris became technically the closest "bright enough" star around 500 AD. But it was still a good bit away.

There are lots of cliff dwellings all over the Southwest, in the 4 Corners region. Whomever built those things were trying to defend against someone. And they used to call them Anasazi cliff dwellings. But now the narrative has changed.
I think it sounds like the Hopi or Navaho decided they didn’t like those guys, But who decided the Anasazi means “Enemy”, see where I’m goin’ with that? The Park Service formerly held it meant “Old Ones” or somesuch.

"Window, then middle, then aisle" would be faster, so the aisle and middle people didn't have to get back out of their seats when the window guy showed up.
At least now that they've crammed in so many seats that there's no hope of sliding past someone already seated, unless they're a double-amputee.
But then it'd split up families sitting in a row, I guess..... so window-middle-aisle, but group up tickets purchased together.

Son #1 and I flew to San Diego to be with Marine. We stayed at an Airbnb and got to be together for the first time for Christmas in a couple years.
Plane was maybe 25% full. Everyone pleasant and courteous and happy.
And drinks were free!

Well, last year we had a kickass party - pretty hard to top that this year!
Restaurant Week in DFW always falls in August, so this year we are spreading out the anniversary celebration to include visiting 6 different places (we normally only go once or twice, but who knows how much longer I will have the desire/ability to eat great food?).
Tonight's installment was Mercury Chophouse, which was really good. I figure getting to eat great steak all month long is a pretty good way to keep the party going this year! We have already been to a couple of places; we are going out again tomorrow night, then twice next weekend, then once again the weekend after that 😊💕🍹

Yup. I have to agree with those who say that airplanes have pretty much become a Greyhound Bus Station in the sky. We have sworn that henceforth if we fly anywhere, it's gonna be First Class, because we can actually afford it (just balked at it in the past) and life is too damn short. Although right now you couldn't pay me to get on a plane. There's another total solar eclipse next year that'll brush the tip of Spain but I think if I even mention it (and planning should probably started a year ago), I'll end up divorced.

But this idiotic thing with carry-ons has rendered the whole thing a (dangerous, vastly complicating) farce. Instead of strictly limiting carry-ons, enforcing rules, it went the other direction, to the point that some planes (the 737 MAX, for example) now have *expanded* overhead capacity.
So now it can take 20 minutes to get off a plane, and delays/unpleasantness/injuries from a generally unathletic and incompetent population slinging 40-lb carry-on bags overhead. Flying has never bothered me and I even enjoyed it sometimes, now the carry-on thing alone has soured it quite a bit.

Yeah, you haven't lived until you've been bashed in the shoulder by some ditz yanking her ten-ton carryon out of the overhead only to let it drop straight down on an unsuspecting stranger. The earth muffin jackass sitting next to me all the way to Iceland had so much crap with him, I don't understand why they let him on the plane. He had stuff in the overhead, crammed into the back of the seat, sticking out of his pockets and underneath the seat.

On our flight out to San Francisco in March, we ended up with a cross-dressing flight attendant. They were VERY well put together - slight in stature, so it wasn't quite as off-putting as if it had been someone the size of a linebacker. Nails were immaculate, as was the hair, but it was still kind of weird to hear a male voice and look up to see what looked like a woman.
I am sure they had placed this person in First Class for a reason - not sure some of the folks in coach would have been as "understanding" as most of the people around us were.

Medical care is so effed up since Obungo care it should no longer surprise me. Altho I thought for sure my eye doc would be with me til I croaked.
My dude just told me it will be ok and I glared at him. He pointed out a MD in the practice and I said he's too ugly. Sort of looks like Hazbeen and no way am I going to deal with those beady eyes and ginger hair.
A couple of years ago I had what they guess is a viral arthritis as my thumbs hurt after swimming in a lagoon in Honolulu. I know this sounds lulu but my CRP bloodwork backed up the inflammation. I was referred to a rheumatologist by the ED doc.
Oh, boy. He seemed normal but in a tiny office and no one waiting (not good). All was semi well til he touched me and I noted he had fungal fingernails, especially on this thumbs, that were caving in. My husband was with me or I would have run out of the office with my own weird thumbs. The last thing I need is a fungus. He jabbered about soccer and I had to follow up a couple of times and graduated, thank goodness.
I wish Dr. Kildare or Marcus Welby would return.

The Freedom 250 Grand Prix is roaring through the heart of Washington, D.C., with Alex Palou starting up front with another championship within reach.

Was talking to a non racing guy who's a local (lives in DC). He actually excited about this race and is going to attend. He knows I'm a motorsports fanboy so I filled him on Indycar racing. Hope he enjoys himself. I won't be going. My hearing is bad enough and Indycars are very loud. I'll be getting off a midshift anyway. I'll be asleep.

Getting to the end of the day here in CDST. It's my birthday. In one year, I'll be 3/4 of a century. You do the (gasp) math. Daughter & husb treated MiladyJo and me to dinner at a nice restaurant. I violated Doctor's orders by having a beer with my Jalapeno cheeseburger. But I skipped the pain meds today, and it was only a Guinness, so, medicinal. Sorta.

I camped out there once, yeah it is an unusual place. Often a huge wind will come in the middle of the night with no clouds, no storms.
Although my biggest problem was some bunch in a VW van who decided to sit around their campfire and bang drums and chant all night. About 1 or 2 am I got so fed up that I stomped over and said “give it a rest! We’re trying to sleep!”
Somehow the cloak of darkness and my pissed off tone made me seem menacing enough that they quit and went to bed.

I really like that song "Tainted Love," so I went down the rabbit hole a bit. The linked Gloria Jones video is essentially a fanvid that the uploader made, using the video for "Gloria Jones sings Heartbeat on Hollywood A Go Go" as a backdrop for the shorter version of the song, but that is the correct one. It was a B-side to the 1965 flop "My Bad Boy's Comin' Home," eventually finding underground success through a club DJ in the UK's "Northern soul" scene, and that is where it belonged.
I'm used to shorter singles being cut-down radio edits of earlier and better album versions, but in this case the longer version on her album Vixen (1976) was a later re-recording, another flop, and I won't even link it. I listened with high hopes that the public had bad taste, but no, they were correct to reject it. Insipidly arranged and poorly mixed, like they had no comprehension of what made the first one good. Big disappointment.

Anyway, occasionally she has a bad dream and will mumble aloud and I gently shake her awake. Sometimes it takes longer than others but I know she's dreaming. All times of night and sometimes multiple. It's not uncommon. But last night around 4:30 I awake to her shrieking in agony. I begin shaking her to get her out of it but she keeps getting louder and not stopping, like the pain is getting worse.
I have no idea how long it went on for, if it was 5 seconds it felt like an eternity. I was completely shit up as she was getting louder, until I managed to wake her and she was in fact merely having a bad dream. She dreamt she was in an old long ago apartment with her real lifely demented ex and he was trying to stab her to death.
The worst part was I thought while she was shrieking that it was a reaction to something that was actually hurting her. Then of course I was trying not to make it about me when she woke because it was a terrifying dream - but as she eventually helpfully pointed out, her nightmare was a dream, mine was real.

Hubby's biggest problem (at work) was getting legs splashed with "spent acid" from the bullet-washing process. Holey jeans! Had to wash separately and throw in some baking soda... I have a guitar amp that was nicknamed "the fezz". I have a bunch of different guitar amps, but this one brand I have is total metal looking. Black tolex covering with a polished diamond plate front. They also made them with custom coverings and face plates. Well, I found one in a store I used to go to, and for some frigging reason they made it with a maroon-ish brown tolex with a very light tan wicker face. It was hideous looking, but it was giveaway price and sounded great, and occasionally you see guys selling the usual diamond plate box without the amp chassis, which I did manage to get eventually. When I first got it a friend stops by, sees the amp, and says "whats with the fezz?" The name stuck, its been called the fezz ever since, even though its now sitting in the correct black/diamond plate box.
