Trump often says he wants an immigration system that permits skilled workers into the country, and people who "love" us.
That always hit me as a little, I don't know, soft. Do I care if immigrants "love" us or not? Well I'll tell you what, I care now. Trump is and was right: It should matter to us if immigrants are coming into this country to bring the chaos, corruption, and endless civil wars of their home shithole countries to our Main Streets, or if they're really coming to join our civilization as supporters and actual, real "cultural enrichers." The left has created an ideology called Third Worldism. Third Worldism teaches all people in poor countries to hate white westerners and blame them for all of their poverty and stagnation. The way out of poverty and stagnation is not, as you might think, to adopt the proveably pro-growth and pro-stability doctrines of the west, but instead to just inflict on the west all of the ills and mayhem of the Third World. They believe that if they can just destroy the west, the Third World will thrive. I guess the theory is something like, "The West is all tall trees that catch the sunlight before it reaches the bushes on the ground. If we just tear down and burn all the tall trees, we'll all grow as high as they once were." It's absurd. But note it is just the companion doctrine of anti-white, anti-American racial socialism in this country, which also advocates for not changing anything about failing "communities" except to destroy the "oppressors" supposedly keeping them down. We cannot allow any more immigration while this pernicious, anti-American hatred is held as the highest value in the Third World and promoted by our own anti-American, left-wing, taxpayer-funded NGOs. Here's the thing: I don't want my society destroyed and razed to the ground so that some foreign malcontents have the chance to rebuild it along their preferred lines, and then rule over me. After the massacres, she called for violent student uprisings on the streets of America. "Let Palestine break this country wide open. Long live the student intifada." In October of 2025, she attended a protest at the Broadview ICE Detention Center outside of Chicago. She was arrested for violence and spit on a police officer. She's currently charged with two counts of aggravated battery, along with two misdemeanor counts of resisting arrest. Her social media is flooded with antisemitic garbage and anti-American propaganda. She's still employed. Our Dept of Education is about to shove over half a billion into the hands of her university. It goes without saying: this should be all hands on deck from the White House and our intelligence community.

I saw a consistent response from the left: Gore is a rich famous guy, you can't expect him to live by the same rules as the rest of us. Now this is an odd response because the left claims overuse of fossil fuels will kill us all.
I think I get what is going on here though. Another argument the left makes is that people on the right only support right wing economics because they believe some day they will personally be rich.
Now if you take that back, because everything with the left is projection, the left wants an aristocracy where the rules don't apply to the elites because every leftwing redditor thinks he will be one of the commissars when the revolution comes.

I had seen the name in print and had not recognized it, but when I heard it spoken on Derek Hunter's show on WMAL, something clicked. You won't find too many left in the middle east because the musselmen have been oppressing them. (With exception of the Copts. Oh, they're oppressed, but they still remain in significant numbers in Egypt.)

In the middle of endless numbers of people in the city pointing out all traffic calming did was make traffic worse, the leftist popped in to say "well I'm willing to pay for fewer accidents with slower traffic"
And the comical part is someone else went and grabbed the city's official stats on car accidents and...they are up since traffic calming.
And I'll give my own story in this regard. I used to have to commute through a rich leftist town on a major artery. The town had kept the state from making it a full highway (I actually spoke with their state rep) and there were all sorts of articles about how they had "saved greenspace" in their town by denying the highway.
Then Waze came and I and thousands of others were on the their side roads. And now that was the problem. Well asshats you deserved it. I smiled at them trying to cross the road and being unable to because of the bumper to bumper traffic on their roads, always made the traffic feel a little less bad.

Food production technology, the steam engine, and the vast farmlands of the US allow for industrialization and ensuing technological development. Food was the primary bottleneck consuming most labor. There were other bottlenecks relieved by the age of discovery, like the currency shortage (Great Bullion famine) but food being solved has been huge.
The Protestant theory was made by Weber, it doesn't appear to actually track across nationalities nor was it broadly the case for Protestant regions/countries while ignoring previous Catholic mercantile states like the Italian city-states.

Simplistic. The root causes were more economic and related to the changing politico economic structure where cities became more important than landed aristocracy. And part of that related to income flowing to Rome and away from the periphery and that in turn made Italian lenders of this largesse important.
Martin Luther and indulgence sales gave a way for princes to buck the Holy Roman emperor and for Henry 8th, to seize the vast sums of money and land from the convents and monasteries because the Pope would not insult Spain's king by allowing an annulment. The idea of a united Christendom had already been shattered by the Orthodox-Roman Catholic split several centuries prior.
Religious history intertwined with politco-economic history is one of those unpleasant subjects where only the atheist can truly be said to put a pox on all of the parties.
Otherwise, it becomes a matter of modern perspective, prior biases related to faith, and the unpleasant realization that often those proclaimed most holy did evil acts for reasons of power, money, and glory.

Religious history intertwined with politco-economic history is one of those unpleasant subjects where only the atheist can truly be said to put a pox on all of the parties.
Otherwise, it becomes a matter of modern perspective, prior biases related to faith, and the unpleasant realization that often those proclaimed most holy did evil acts for reasons of power, money, and glory.

It's always seemed to me based on my personal experience that the Catholics spend a lot less time reading/studying/talking about the Bible than what I was used to from the Protestants in my youth. But hey maybe that's just my wife's family? We go to Catholic Church but I really never hear of anyone talking about Bible study or anything like that and it was ubiquitous in the Protestant churches I grew up in.

12 years of Catholic school here and we virtually never touched the Bible. "What does the Pope say?" was always the answer. Or "Is it in the Nicene Creed?"

We go to Catholic Church but I really never hear of anyone talking about Bible study or anything like that and it was ubiquitous in the Protestant churches I grew up in.

However, Protestants walked away from Tradition, so the Bible is all they have. Not the same as Catholics. We also study things like Canon Law, the various hundreds of years of Papal decrees, Bulls, and doctrinal statements, the Sacraments, etc.
All of these things are directly Biblical in nature, so we go into some depth about topics Protestants don't consider.
It is an old canard about Catholics never reading the Bible. We do, and many of us are somewhat fluent.

Not trying to be a wiseass here: I'm a Protestant that married a Catholic. It's always seemed to me based on my personal experience that the Catholics spend a lot less time reading/studying/talking about the Bible than what I was used to from the Protestants in my youth. But hey maybe that's just my wife's family? We go to Catholic Church but I really never hear of anyone talking about Bible study or anything like that and it was ubiquitous in the Protestant churches I grew up in.

Dad went to UofC. Held it as a banner of pride his whole life. Esteemed it highly, served as an alum who would vet prospective students, was proud as hell when my sister chose to go there.
Then my niece and nephew recently graduated, and poor dad was so dismayed at how far it had fallen in academic rigor.
