Reject Rescues Cafe

colossuselephant.jpg
Richard Bernabe

Adopting a rejected four-day-old lamb.

Saving a sickly baby goat rejected by his mom. Don't worry, she gets better.

"Hakuna Matada, f***face!"

Training the cutest little baby attack dog.

Adopting an orphaned kitten off the street.

More of the baby elephant playing with his toy, a bike tire.

Lion wants the elephant to know that she's the apex predator here and the elephant says go f*** yourself in the face, Karen.

Woman helps injured porcupine while she's convalescing.

Dog tries to corral an escaped cow.

Orphaned raccoons follow a 19-year-old horse home.

The band Rush used to feature an introduction by Count Floyd. I can't understand why there aren't more female Rush fans.

A couple of days ago I posted a colorized film of NYC in the 1940s.

This one is from the thirties.

Men and women are different and have different tastes on average across a lot of entertainment. Rush fans are a particular demographic of males and some females that like what Rush offers-intelligent lyrics, stellar musicianship, and a long career in music.

Others may like Taylor Swift. The two are not the same.

115 "Dance, Dance, Dance" is a song by the American rock band the Beach Boys from their 1965 album Beach Boys Today! Written by Brian Wilson, Carl Wilson, and Mike Love, it was first issued as a single in October 1964, backed with "The Warmth of the Sun".

"Dance, Dance, Dance" marked Carl's first recognized writing contribution to a Beach Boys single, his contribution being the song's primary guitar riff and solo.

"Dance, Dance, Dance" was composed by Brian and Carl Wilson, while the lyrics were written by Brian and Mike Love. Although many pop songs raise their key at the start of a final chorus, "Dance, Dance, Dance" subverts this convention by modulating in the middle of the verse.

As performed by The Fendertones, a quality father & son Beach Boys tribute band.

But as a general rule, women have a pretty juvenile taste in music. My wife is an exception, she has good taste. Most of the women I've ever known are stuck with a 14yo's musical palate. They want something with a beat you can dance to, and pop lyrics that aren't too challenging.

This race, minus Darline, is pure regional politics. Ralph Norman is taking the upstate and Fry is taking his district, with Darline roughly second.

Sanford is the spoiler in the Low Country, with that spoilage bleeding up into the Midlands a bit. Norman and Fry are sort of tied below Darline and Sanford.

So, the 2nd place winner will be the Upstate vs the Pee Dee balance of votes for their guy.

If Sanford wasn't in, the Low Country and Midlands could've still split the vote between Norman and Fry, but they could've swung if they wanted to.

181 But neither represent what one would call mature music.

Posted by: Braenyard

Depends on what you call mature, I cannot stand opera singing for example--I can appreciate the raw talent needed to sing like that at volume but I don't care to listen to it. Not too fond of cRAP either but I can see why others like it. Techno bores me.

Other than that, I can listen to Sousa marches, classical in whatever format, jazz although some of the bebop is not my favorite, rock, pop, country, even folk music. So mature is simply a term in the case of music is what I like is mature and what I don't like is immature.

FWIW, classical piano trained as a yute for years--hands too small to be a great pianist though. So I played boogie woogie when teacher was outside the room.

Saw them at their popular peak at a couple of shows. Great shows--one of them used the soon to be banned festival seating aka sort it on the floor as there were no seats (Nashville in 82-3 I think).

Back in those 70's to 80's days, tickets were affordable for yutes, lots of bands touring, and you did not have to be a billionaire to get good seats--just queue up. Ticketmaster and the assorted scum with their own computerized scalping ruined concert music. The money was there so Ticketmaster and bands still relevant enough to draw people set up perfect price discrimination using the scalper's model.

That outpriced it for the fans while catering to the social and money snobs there to be seen with the best seats.

187 Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez reportedly secretly split from her longtime fiancé years before she decided to freeze her eggs.

The controversial New York congresswoman broke up with Riley Roberts and called off their engagement almost two years ago.

Ocasio-Cortez and Roberts met when they were both undergraduates at Boston University.

The two were last pictured together at the 2021 Met Gala, and Ocasio-Cortez announced their engagement the following year.

But about 18 months ago, the engagement was suddenly called off, according to Leigh Ann Caldwell, the chief Washington correspondent for Puck News.

It is unclear what may have led up to the split, but insiders have said Ocasio-Cortez stopped wearing her engagement ring in the months before they decided not to get married.

The news comes as Ocasio-Cortez announced that she is in the process of freezing her eggs and documenting the process.

You might like Fairport Convention (had Sandy Denny in it and Richard Thompson among others)--look up her version of Where Does the Time Go (she is also on a couple of Led Zep songs). And Richard has a puckish sense of humor

Heh. Richard Thompson got a call from Playboy about what he could contribute to a project of the top popular music from the 1000's onwards. He started to do some research as he was already well acquainted with a lot of really old English and Scottish folksongs from playing them for years. Never heard another word from Playboy but decided to cut an album with some of his chums and then tour. You can listen to the whole album on Youtube (about 26 songs).

Live concert of him with band playing the songs on the album is here. About 1 hour 47 minutes on youtube.

I don't know exactly, but as an anchor baby raised abroad, he will always be awkward. When other kids were learning how to relate to people, he was a spoiled fat rich Turkish little boy on a pony (there's a photo).

Women can sense weakness, and both Bridget Phetasy and Shoe0nhead have called out Piker's "fat kid energy." No matter that he grew up and hit the gym, on the inside, he will always be that fat kid on a pony.

Touring is a hard life and back then, Fairport was just scrimping along and fighting for fans in an extremely crowded British music scene. Thompson was one of the few that spent all his time doing music and avoided the excessive drinking and drugs that came around playing the pub circuit at 1-3 in the morning.

In an interview, he noted at the time (late sixties) that he saw all the names in rock etc. pass through the audience for the band as they were just winding down from doing their own shows and did not want to go home.

IRRC, Jimi Hendrix was at one, Who, Rolling Stones, Clapton, Faces, and a bunch of others.

Probably a remnant of that time is one of the 1000 years of songs that Thompson covers is one by Pete Townshend and the Who--A Legal Matter.

Small country, dance and music hall tradition so plenty of venues, and based in London, you could do cheap tours and still return to home base in a reasonable tour. US was and still is a LOT harder to tour than UK was.

That suggests either the establishment cheating and *failing* for their own candidate (highly unlikely) or the polls being totally fake, and the cheating occurring for the bigger leftard, making it naturally close and no one questions it because they lead so big in the fake polling. Something to keep an eye on.

290 Rufus, you would probably like the songs that Richard and his ex wife Linda did. Some beautiful albums--Shoot out the Lights and I Want to See The Bright Lights Tonight are fantastic and still in print.
--Standout songs from these albums are Wall of Death (carnival ride), I Want to See the Bright Lights Tonight (humorous), and Calvary Cross, (long tour de force featuring guitars and a fearsome vocal by Thompson).

There were at least two earlier albums that are more experimental as Richard became involved in Sufism and mysticism and that was in part why Linda and him broke up eventually.

There was an old farmer where I lived who liked to party, and by party I mean having 30 or 40 people in his yard drinking. You could drive by there and if you heard music and saw a crowd, you could just stop in. ID? What ID?

Needless to say, he had a lot of empty beer cans from this.

He was dumping them in a gully that'd formed in a 40 acre field some distance from the house, presumably in an attempt to check erosion.

Finding that was like finding a friggin' goldmine for a bunch of teens.

I wonder if he ever noticed that the gully somehow never seemed to fill up.

Not that he would likely have given much of a shit if he did. He was one of the most laid-back old timers I've ever met.
