Presumptive DSA Candidate for Wisconsin Governor Once Voted Against a Law to Prohibit Teachers from Sexually Grooming Young Children

WASHINGTON -- Wisconsin socialist darling Francesca Hong was one of just six lawmakers in the Badger State's legislature to vote against an anti-child grooming law enacted earlier this year by Democratic Gov. Tony Evers, records show.
The law -- which bars adults from "engaging in a course of conduct, pattern of behavior, or series of acts with the intention to condition, seduce, solicit, lure, or entice a child" into sexual activity or pornography -- was in response to the case of former Kenosha school teacher Christian Enwright, who was found guilty of a slew of misdemeanor counts for pursuing a relationship with a 14-year-old student.
"[Enwright] engaged in classic grooming behavior, preying on the vulnerability of at least one female student, under the guise of being a mentor, to foster and further a predatory relationship with her," a school district investigator wrote in a report quoted by the Cap Times in December 2025.

There was no actual law against the grooming so they convicted him on a bunch of misdemeanors. Lawmakers moved to make grooming of children by a teacher a felony -- and Hong insisted that her decarceration agenda means child groomers must go free.

Enwright began reaching out to the minor on Snapchat in June 2023 and exchanged more than 600 messages with her, including sexualized comments about her appearance and images of himself in bed without a shirt.
At least two staffers had privately expressed concerns about Enwright's behavior toward female students and he had a reputation for giving "long hugs," according to the Cap Times.
Eventually, the school district's human resources team received an anonymous tip about his behavior toward the teen in February 2024 and he was arrested, charged, and fired three months later.
However, prosecutors had difficulty bringing a case against Enwright because he never had sexual contact with the girl and none of the photos he sent or asked the teen for were explicit enough to charge him with a felony under state law.
Ultimately, Enwight pleaded guilty in April 2025 to 15 misdemeanor counts of disorderly conduct and was sentenced that July to 15 months in jail and three years of probation.
The subsequent outcry lead to the Wisconsin legislature passing the anti-grooming law, with the Assembly approving it 93-6 and the state Senate passing it by voice vote.
It is unclear why Hong, the leading Democratic gubernatorial candidate ahead of Tuesday's primary, opposed the bill -- though her colleagues who voted against it suggested the measure was redundant in state law.
Hong's campaign did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
The 37-year-old previously expressed support for both defunding and abolishing the police.
"Police exist to uphold white supremacy. Defund then abolish. Reform can't be an option," Hong posted on social media in October 2021, though she has since retreated from that position.
"I was actually trying to become a sports journalist when I first went to college, so I learned you sometimes have bad takes on Twitter," she recently told reporters in a bid to explain her radicalism.

Here's what happened: A 30-year-old teacher messaged a 13-year-old student of his every day for six months and talked about how he wanted them to be together, she had a nice body, and he was jealous when she talked to other boys. He also sent her pictures of himself lying shirtless in bed
So the cops arrested him but when they went to charge him, they realized nothing he did was actually illegal. They never made sexual contact and no pictures were exchanged that were explicit enough to qualify under Wisconsin state law. This guy was actively trying to rape a 13-year-old student and there was no law forbidding his conduct
He wound up being charged with a bunch of disturbing the peace charges and only spent six months in prison for spending half a year abusing his authority as a teacher to manipulate a 13-year-old girl into having sex with him. He is not a convicted felon - since all the charges were misdemeanors - and is not on the sex offender registry
The Wisconsin State Assembly responded to this by drafting a bipartisan bill that made it a felony to engage in any course of conduct clearly and obviously intended seduce or lure a child into engaging in sexual acts or exchanging illicit images. It passed 193-6 and was signed into law by the Democratic governor. Francesca Hong voted no.
4 months later the first person was charged under the new law. He was 36-year-old man who met a developmentally disabled 16-year-old in a public park when she was 13 and spent the next three years trying to manipulate her into running away from home so he could make her his live-in sex slave.
To recap: Earlier *this very year* Franesca Hong was one of only six people to vote against a bill that made it illegal to take affirmative action designed to lure a minor into sexual acts and the very first person the bill Hong voted against was used to arrest was a guy who tried to rape an underage girl with Down Syndrome
I have never seen a Democratic candidate this bad. This is like Mark Robinson territory.

Turnout differential is a thing (not even Obama's people figured out how to reverse it for his midterms).

Out of power parties tend to see higher turnout. It just happens.

However, candidate quality, especially in state-level races, can shift the balance. People are a bit less blindly partisan when it comes to races for things like governor (Larry Hogan being Republican governor of MD for a recent example, before he tanked his race for senate of the same state despite being a popular governor).

Everyone assumes Cooper is the favorite for a couple of reasons.

He's a former governor who left office 2 years ago who is running in an open seat, so he's effectively an incumbent. His name recognition is through the roof.

But everything else beyond that tells a different story.

The last time he won election was 2020. There were 400,000 more registered Democrats than Republicans in the state. Now, there are 10,000 more Republicans than Democrats. He won that race by 250,000 votes.

That alone should tell people that this is, at best, toss up territory.

But, polling, right? Look back at the 2020 polling of the NC senate race. Cunningham was running away with it, until he lost to Tillis in the actual election. Senate polling in general sucks (avg. movement of 7 points to the GOP from summer to election day over the past few cycles).

On top of that, Cooper left office with a couple of major issues (Helene response and something that's built up since, his soft on crime policies which led to Iryna's death).

In addition, we've seen "popular" governors of the wrong party lose federal statewide races even when still considered popular because they are of the wrong party. Think of Larry Hogan going from popular MD governor to losing by double digits in the Senate race just in 2024.

I really think Cooper is the actual underdog.

I have experience with the children of Asian immigrants, as someone who grew up among them, and now work among them, to the extent that more often than not the "minority" was/is me the tall White kid/middle aged guy now.

It seemed that their parents went through a list of Anglicized first names and they started with "A". SO I had many peers named Abel, Adele, Andrew, Alvin, Amy, Annie, Arthur, and you get the idea.

My theory (which is based on some experience in my pro bono work) is that those who are truly serious about suicide just go ahead and do it, and can't be stopped. They just sneak out one night and jump in front of a subway (this actually happened to a kid I knew back in the day).

The rest do it 99% for attention. We had girls -- it's usually girls -- "attempt" suicide multiple times, over and over, and even went so far as to cut themselves. But each time, they almost carefully chose the time and place so that others could intervene.

But who knows? Maybe one day these attention-seekers eventually go all the way.

One thing that can't be stressed enough...

In 2000 the Dems accused the Republicans of stealing the election in FL. The FL state government made the actual ballots available along with all the election data and the left spent month forensically going through the ballots to in the end find Shrub's vote count had been undercounted by a few ballots. No fraud.

In 2020 the Reps accused the Dems of stealing the election in the 6 states that stopped counting because of a leaky sink in Atlanta. The Dems then arrest and cancelled anyone they could repeating the claims, hid and later burned the ballots, and hid every piece of information they could

Now the Rep actions after 2000 show a group of people that know the election was above board...so what do the Dem actions in 2020 show?

Mail in voting has pulled back significantly since 2020 and 2022.

Many of the laws that made easier mail in voting have been repealed.

There are exceptions, like CA went all mail in voting making that statewide something of a lost cause, but mail in voting got a whole lot tighter in the last few years.

The RNC sued and stopped that stoppage.

I agree with both of your points, but the question is WHY did she get so many fewer votes than Biden. One starts, of course, with the fact that Biden didn't get anything remotely like the number of votes he was credited with getting. Secondly, though, is that even Democrats, or at least some of them, have a limit beyond which they will not go, and Kamala was firmly over that line between competence and utter clownishness.

Really depends on ethnicity. "Han" Chinese tend to be slender with flat asses. Fantastic skin and hair though.

I really think the base issue is that NC is more Republican than it was before, Mark Robinson's complete collapse in 2024 convinced everyone that NC is still a purple state (statewide-state level races tend to be far less purely partisan and open to character destruction having an effect).

The state has materially moved rightward over the last few years in terms of registrations and registered independents in NC have a long history of leaning hard to the right (not every state is like that).

Competitive senate races tend to drive turnout up statewide in the states that have them, helping them to reflect both overall PVI of the state and getting turnout to presidential election levels.

There is a far more likely chance that the NC senate race more closely reflects the 2024 presidential race, but everyone's acting like it's going to reflect the NC governor race.
