The Morning Report — 8/ 11 /26

Good morning kids.

First up there are reports from of a massive earthquake that rocked Colombia yesterday morning. Prayers up for all those affected and for rescue and recovery crews.

The Geological Service of Colombia confirmed a magnitude 7.4 earthquake rocking the country around 7:34 a.m. local time in the western region of Chocó, potentially causing significant damage. . . In the city of Cali, locals documented buildings with their windows broken and streets covered in glass and other debris.

Yikes, 7.4 is pretty damn significant. I have not seen any follow ups so hopefully things are under control and the people are getting on with the business of life as they dig out and begin the process of rebuilding and recovery. Considering the aftershocks of the political earthquake that led to the ejection of Commie strongman Gustavo Petro just a short while ago, it will certainly be a test for the newly elected government to see how fast and effectively it can respond. I'm sure President Trump will be quick to offer whatever assistance we can, as would be right and proper all things considered. One of the truly shining successes of the Trump administration has been his stunning success in turning much of Latin America away from the disaster of socialist rule as can especially be seen in Argentina and El Salvador just to name two countries that are now effectively in the Trump/freedom camp.

Unfortunately, the rest of the world is devolving into tyranny. Most notably England, from whence America emerged just 250 short years ago. Here are two horrible stories coming from across the pond that illustrate its rapid disintegration.

First, shopping can ruin one's day...

One social media user questioned whether carrying a baseball bat from a store should be treated as suspicious, writing, “Assuming this is all innocent. Are people not allowed to play baseball on the fields anymore? We may as well ban anything that potentially can be used as a weapon, which is most things in shops.” Another user argued apparently sincerely that the officer's response was understandable given the circumstances. “To be fair I wouldn't be happy seeing a guy just roaming around with a baseball bat in a densely packed public place, package or no package. copper decided to err on the side of caution and probably asked him to hand the bat over many times before it got to this point.”

Yeah, a bloke toting around a packaged and sealed baseball bat is a clear and present danger, but roving bands of Muslim males prowling for girls and women to rape, that's in the deepest traditions of civilization, so how dare you!

And if you even raise an eyebrow let alone open your pie-hole . . . Yeah that neanderthal, primitive dangerous thing known as freedom of speech, about that...

The National Internet Intelligence Investigations unit notified local police about 106 posts, with 50 of those flagged in June alone, in the aftermath of disclosures surrounding the murder of teenager Henry Nowak. Nowak was stabbed to death by Vikrum Digwa, and his pleas for help were reportedly ignored by officers who doubted the dying student after his killer claimed to be a victim of racism.

It was a true period piece. One year before Wisconsin gubernatorial hopeful Francesca Hong called to "Cancel Thanksgiving," the socialist state representative, who is a professional chef, in October 2019 hosted an event she dubbed a "Feast of the Feminine," a "6course [sic] dinner inspired by menstruation." An invitation posted to the events website Eventbrite describes the "feast" as a "celebration of menstruation with conversation and dinner." It also lists a menu featuring on-theme ingredients like "Soondae-Korean blood sausage."

ABOVE THE FOLD, BREAKING, NOTEWORTHY

The earthquake has already prompted at least one aftershock recorded at upwards of magnitude four. Locals in Chocó, Cali, and throughout the west of the country had recorded alarming videos of buildings swaying, their windows crashing down and leaving trails of debris on the streets. At press time, however, authorities have not documented any deaths, though local officials in Chocó warned that they expect a high number of casualties.

I used to live close to a butterfly sanctuary that’s on the sand dunes in between LAX and the ocean. I got curious and did some investigating… that area used to be a neighborhood with a few hundred houses called Surfridge (Playa Del Rey). In the late 60s thru the mid-70s LAX used eminent domain to force all the homeowners out. They got on average $70K… IOW they got screwed. If those houses were there now they’d be worth a few million each… even accounting for inflation they got fleeced. You go there now the old streets are there but no houses nothing… it’s a butterfly sanctuary

108 Runner, I know, I was hoping too, but after that long it didn't seem like a realistic hope. I had read about the Sandy Steers had passed some months back. I have eagles where I live actually. It's no way anything like Big Bear but they have taken residence in the woods next to a BigY parking lot down the road, they've been making babies for over 5 years no. People are there every day taking beautiful pictures of our pair.

To the post that said she died from being attacked, that would be incorrect, the vets said she had no injuries from that attack, but that attack showed that she already had something wrong with her, as she wasn't able to defend herself well.

135 Runner, I know, I was hoping too, but after that long it didn't seem like a realistic hope. I had read about the Sandy Steers had passed some months back. I have eagles where I live actually. It's no way anything like Big Bear but they have taken residence in the woods next to a BigY parking lot down the road, they've been making babies for over 5 years no. People are there every day taking beautiful pictures of our pair.

To the post that said she died from being attacked, that would be incorrect, the vets said she had no injuries from that attack, but that attack showed that she already had something wrong with her, as she wasn't able to defend herself well.

Yes, seems she was ill for a while. By the time Jackie was rescued, she was malnourished, probably could not hunt as before. You are lucky you have a nesting pair to watch. And it speaks well of the habitat, must be a stream, or a lake nearby.

Agree. He's a good law explainer but he is also close friends with Andy McCarthy so his allegiances are somewhat questionable.

Particularly when we've know all this about Brennan, Comey and Clapper for years. This is not breaking news to anyone who has followed this closely but the vast majority of people don't know this level of detail. Ship should know it.

They tried to take Trump down in 2016. They succeeded in 2020 but against all odds Trump has got them on the run now.

Well, digital radio tuning is a perfect example, it has clear cut points 101.1, 101.2, etc. and you either have a sufficient signal or you get dead air. IRRL, the old analog tuners could tune between the gaps to pick up scratchy stations that a digital tuner rejects because an analog tuner discards no information.

Same as an analog picture on Kodachrome film has all the colors as they are (albeit the nice glow from the film) while a digitalized version has to silo each color by a specific specification.

Most digital algorithms due to computing resources drop a lot of information--aka lossy compression that allows us to watch streaming on tv without overwhelming the bandwidth. You can even still record a 'lossless' version of a song on digital but yet still miss sound information present on an analog record because of sampling to create the digital version.

When I did empirical modeling research, for me, the key was triangulating sources, data, etc. then trying to incorporate the different explanations of a phenomenon (political in my case) in a model.

If you excluded any that others had found relevant, you risked mis-specifying your model which essentially means it is trash because excluding a key variable meant the relationship of the remaining variables in the model could not correctly be attributed in strength and even causal relationship with the dependent variable.

Legal commenters don't do that as they tend to advocate rather than analyze--different mindset.

I've given up most predictions nowadays because we are not in normal times anymore--sort of like a prof of mine who spent his entire career until his late sixties analyzing who was up and who was down in the Soviet system. Then all hell broke loose when the wall fell and he told me that prior to that, Soviet research was all very nice and cozy--then came a totally new paradigm that was simply beyond the old scholar's understanding.

I think we are there in politics and world affairs--the old cozy globalizing world order is dying and domestic politics has deteriorated to the point that the old understandings are being swept away.

Letting Comey and co get away with it is will cause consequences, so will not letting them get away with it. Exactly what either situation unleashes, I don't think anyone really knows. I think just about everything going on these days has both domestic implications as well as global including the various conflicts Trump has started since retaking office.

Seems to be still that way in UK. Due to its geographic compactness, you can be in a short TV series, hop into a stage play in London on the break, and then appear in a movie. Same network effect existed for the British invasion bands--they all knew of each other if not friendz and shared a pub, dancehall, etc. touring, recording, and being able to sleep in their own bed from somewhere like London.

Some research into the Bloody Codes of British History argue that.
