Our pretty girl was with us for almost 12 years, October 6, 2014 - August 5, 2026
It was unexpected. I’ve included pictures of Destiny - one of the first pictures I have of her and also the last one. She was very sick but her tail would wag when we talked to her.

The kids were down from Ottawa for a wedding and Arthur the Pot Cake Pooch got to hang out with his "Grandparents". I'm personally not fond of the term, but there you go.

3 LMAO...Ace and his crows. This is a slow motion car wreck waiting to happen, and I'm here for it. It's novel and entertaining until it isn't. He'll see.

If it were one singular crow, that's would be fine. But, those loud mouthed beggars are social with their buddies. They communicate. That results in dive bombing by Crow #1 and all his extended relatives whenever they see you.

We'll know when that moment hits. Ace will be asking for advice on where to buy a helmet. Can't wait.

5 Pet Thread, Yay!

I've decided that Chloe the Bengal Kitty is now going to be Chloe the Klutz.

She may look sleek and graceful, but that's just a facade.

In truth she's quite clumsy. Not graceful at all. Still adorable, though.

Right now she's snoozing on top of the bookshelves in my office. She has fully claimed them from Penny.

Linda dragged me into a Dollar Tree today. (Well, it didn't take much dragging.) She had to look at the Halloween decorations, which are for sale already. She spots a black cat decoration and goes, "That's Stirling!" To which I reply, "I already have the original. Why do I need a copy?"

Sure, there are other cats and dogs in America called "Stirling" or "Sterling." But I venture to say a *black* cat called "Stirling" could be unique. People want to name a black cat after some aspect of his coat color or lack of it, e.g., Shadow or Midnight or Lucifer.

No cat update today. I didn't feel well last night. I will say that Onyx, the new baby has settled in well and has already made some friends. Onyx is curled up on my lap right now.

12 Big black Stirling sat on my lap three times yesterday, and slept with me this afternoon. Dagny is off by herself, as usual -- though when Linda shows up, the little Siberian often trots right out and bumps her head against Linda's arm as if asking for petting. She will do that with me, but not as often.

I keep wondering if someday she will give in and be that demonstrative with me. "Oh, all right, you're here, I might as well."

Which again is a comment on the cat's fur color, just in reverse.

My first black cat, Marie-Antoinette, had been named by the lady who rescued her and gave her to Linda. If the latter had wanted to rename her, I know the cat would have adjusted; "Marie" was almost certainly not her pre-rescue name, and yet the smart little devil knew it or any part of it.

My second was Wolf, a name I think takes some imagination to bestow on a cat. And now Stirling. Not a "Shadow" or "Midnight" in the bunch.

23 I'm getting rid of some of my pets today. The bathroom spiders are being publicly aggressive at each other when I'm using the toilet, and they are invading the shower, so it's time to cull the herd.

Just need to drag the big vacuum in and such up whatever can't hide fast enough.

Lucy the Fink is recovering nicely from her emergency vet visit earlier this week. A cyst at the base of her tail gor infected and ruptured and was quite icky. Even an idiot like myself could figure out she needed evaluation.

Hack and slash and drain and then a shot of antibiotics and a few hundred dollars later……

Glad to hear she's making a full recovery!

Allie had a similar experience with a hematoma in her ear.

Seems to have made a full recovery, but now she has "cauliflower ear."

The other day I saw something weird.

A group of seven or eight crows were standing in front of one house in our neighborhood, in a very orderly fashion and very still, just staring at the front door.

Since that was a very determined murder of crows, I assumed they were gathered to murder the owner of the house.

I haven't seen the owner since then or the crows. Their issue appears to have been resolved.

Perhaps we need to use crows to deal with the Iranian leadership.

Three moves ago she had indoor/outdoor privileges. She was constantly fighting any critter who came into our yard. She hisses and yowls at any cat outside the window.

OK. Sounds like she's highly territorial. Nothing wrong with that.

The secret to introducing a new cat seems to be mingling their scents over time.

Kaylee and Chloe got into a huge fight once. Fur flying everywhere. Chloe had been living exclusively in my library at the time. I moved Kaylee into the library and let Chloe have the run of the house for a day or a so.

Now Kaylee just ignores Chloe and keeps to her side of the house. Chloe lives in my office and library. Worked out for everyone.

42 My boyhood cat, Rusty, disliked other cats . . . until I brought home the little tri-color stray Mom named Li'l Bit. For a day or two he hissed at her. Then, it was as if he realized . . . "This is a *girl* kitten!" (He'd been altered a couple of years before.) After that they sat and played together, he gave her his little toy chair, and became the brave cat who stayed out when human strangers arrived -- he'd always vanished before -- while she did a fast fade.

Miss Linda's white shorthair Annabelle disliked all other cats and did so her whole life. She was forced to tolerate two of Linda's other felines and had to deal unhappily with my Tatiana when we bugged out for a hurricane in '08.

Arizona the great part-Coon disliked other cats his whole life too. He avoided Marie-Antoinette, who knew he disliked her and stayed out of his way . . . until he passed away. Then she bounded on stage like Debbie Reynolds in a musical: "*I'm* the star now!"

44 Fortunately Chekov D. Siberian took to Wolf immediately when I brought him in. They walked warily around each other, getting a bit closer with each pass. Within an hour they were sitting in the window together watching birds.

Stirling, of course, took to Dagny right away. He wasn't altered yet, and even though she wasn't even in heat, he was right there: "Let me stand next to your fire!" We had to keep them separated until both had been altered. They scuffle from time to time, and don't seem especially close, but they get along well.

Oreo and Tatiana the Wonder Siberian were fine, though the latter was a kitten and the former a middle-aged elderly lady who didn't want to play so energetically.

I call Dagny "Stubby Tail." Her long fur conceals it to a degree but the tail underneath is shorter than average. Apparently this is not a fault with Siberians; her mother Sofia was the same way, and she was thought good enough to breed.

We thought our bernedoodle was barking to warn us the UPS driver was coming up the driveway. Then, a few days ago I happened to be outside as a delivery arrived. I quickly warned the driver we had a friendly, but prone to jumping up, pooch.

"Oh I know her." And as the pooch came running to him, out came a treat.

When she barks from inside the house, she isn't warning us, she's letting us know she wants out to get a treat.

53 KT, Oddly Magic likes all the cats in the house, including the two old girls who are 17. They on the other hand would rather he leave them alone.
When we got Sejong he wanted to wrassle with Magic, and poor Magic put up with it because kitten, until he got tired and pinned the kitten for being too rough.
Becca was a blessing because she is the same age as Sejong, and she didn't know not to bite as hard as possible either, so they tamed each other down.

Before Becca showed up I would play with him because he needed to rough-house, and I had a sock stuffed with crinkly stuff and a bell that he could bite on while he bunny-kicked my arm. He was really good about only biting on the toy, and I wore long sleeves.
He still likes to do that, but he is not so single minded about it since he has other hobbies now. Like hunting mice in the wood shed. He will miss a meal so he can keep hunting.

Elvis and I were just sitting on the patio watching the birds attack the feeders. Everyone was having a nice time and then the Blue Jays showed up.

Yep, good description. There is one aggressive male jay at the house behind which we feed a fixed stray cat colony, although he's slightly preferable to turkey vultures which sit broodingly on the fence until it's time for their morning meal.
