Feel good story ‘It just makes sense!’: 13-year old builds 3D printed wheelchair for 21-month-old girl
While some 13-year-old boys spend their summer playing sports or swimming at pools, Zac Waters spent his time designing a 3D printed custom wheelchair for a 21-month old girl. After watching a YouTube channel about 3D printing, Waters felt inspired to make a difference using his passion of 3D printing. He discovered MakeGood, a nonprofit organization that 3D prints assistive devices for people with disabilities around the world, and knew he needed to get involved. Waters dedicated his summer to designing, 3D printing, testing, and assembling a custom wheelchair for a young girl. His favorite part of 3D printing is putting the pieces together, and this chair was no exception. The project took roughly 300 hours. Waters is thrilled to be part of the 3D printing community that helped bring the wheelchair design to life. He hopes to continue developing his skills and one day reach the level of expertise demonstrated by the MakeGood team that designed the wheelchair he assembled. The wheelchair has unique features in addition to its pink accents, the young girl’s favorite color. It has a removable cupholder and tray table, and the back of the chair has a space designed for heavier medical equipment. The adjustable straps are made with soft and bendable material for comfort. There are approximately 5 Wawa locations withing a 5ish mile radius of my house. Sheetz is around here too. While they are both really good at what they do - they don't come anywhere close to doing what Buc-ees does!

That was my thought, also. I suppose you might stretch and consider a sailboat to be "solar powered", since solar energy drives the wind. And stretch slightly further and call a fossil fuel boat "solar powered", just by sunlight that fell a really long time ago.

The only station I’ve seen that matches Buc-ees is the Wally’s just west of St. Louis. It isn’t a copy, though. It has its own style, which I appreciate. The fresh potato chips are amazing.
As, of course, are the bathrooms. Honestly, gas stations along the highway have two jobs. Gas, and bathrooms. If you won’t do those two things, don’t advertise.

There was some youtube channel a while back where a bunch of hippies bought a beater sailboat, engine seized, and I am sure the owner was glad to be rid of it.
They sailed to the Caribbean, I think it was, old school, all sail powered. Arriving, mooring, and leaving port, the works. That was hardcore sailing.

I've come to believe the argument this is a sign of colleges over producing people with degrees the private sector doesn't want as the most strident socialists in America are people with a fancy degree not making much money and the most anti-socialist people are those without an advanced degree making a good salary.
These DSA voters believe even if they don't get full on socialism they'll get the government looting the workers in full force again to finance more do nothing NGO jobs.

Speaking of Charles Berry, there was a incident with Jim Irwin on Apollo 15. Both he and Scott got dehydrated and overheated during their EVAs, Irwin worse than Scott. There was a problem with the water dispensing system in the suits. Apollo 15 was the first J-mission, longer duration stays, and much more science work. Each EVA lasted about 7 hours on average.
Upon take-off from the surface, Irwin started experiencing a serious arrhythmia. Berry later said that if Irwin were back on earth, he would sent him to the ICU right then and there, and told Chris Kraft and Gene Kranz so.
We don't know who really made the call, but they didn't tell the crew about it. Berry probably thought that might make it worse. The EKG went back to normal, but they watched it like a hawk all the way back.
And Irwin did have a heart attack 2 years later, and another two after that, dying during the third one. He was the first of the Moonwalkers to pass away.

See the difference between partial pressure and total pressure. When you have a mix of (otherwise non-interacting) gases, you can treat the pressure of each separately, and is proportional to its molar fraction.
What matters for getting O2 in your blood via your lungs is the partial pressure of O2.

Partial pressure in gases is akin to concentration in liquids. Air is 21% oxygen. At 14 psi absolute, the partial pressure of oxygen is 14 X 0.21 = 2.94 psi.

5 psia pure O2 is no greater a fire risk than sea level air.

Well this week I got into an animated e-mail exchange with the president of our HOA Board over some middling county rule. H sent a rambling diatribe about how I was blah, blah, blah.. The time stamp on his message was 3:39 a.m.
The next day I mailed him my response:
"Tim,
My mother taught me two things when I was a lad.
1. Always wear clean underwear in case you are in an accident.
2. Nohing good ever comes from posting angry e-mails at 3:39 in the morning.
I talked with him a couple days later and he told me he does not p[lan to serve out the remaining 18 months of his term of office. I think my indirect response short circuited his brain. Thanks Mom!

Another way to see partial pressure. Imagine you take each gas separately, and then isothermally compress it to the total pressure of the mix. The volume fraction of each to the total will then be the same as the molar fraction.

Too high a partial pressure of O2 is bad as well. 0.5 atm is about the limit for prolonged breathing. 1.4 - 1.6 (briefly) is the limit. Above that and seizures and other damage can occur.

If it lost it stinger, as in "dragged its guts out getting away" it was a bee. Wasps, hornets, Queen bees and bumblebees don't have barbed stingers. Their stinger slides in, squeezes out its shot of forming acid and other wonderful organic compounds, necrotizing enzymes, and slides right out, ready to sting you again.
I once caught a yellowjacket in my old open face Bell helmet, and by the time I got it off and released the damned thing, it had stung me 6 times (I counted the lumps in the mirror later) around the temple. I'm sure it was amusing watching me pull off the side of the road, drop the bike on its side, engine still running, rear wheel spinning and me frantically trying to release the D ring strap.

Speaking of oxygen (oxy-gun as some rednecks around here pronounce it): Mama is home. She's pretty weak, but in high spirits now she's home.
She called out that it was hard to breathe. Checked her O2 sat. 94% and dropping. They say that's not too bad, just worry if it gets below 88%, but with her, if it gets below 95%, she doesn't like it.
So, I got to checking flow, then got worried there was a leak. Scrambled around for a bit, then noticed the canula was out of her nose. She had to blow her nose and forgot to put it back in.

Sometimes, too high an O2 saturation can be bad. With COPD, it can cause blood CO2 to get too high. There's a lot of nuance and complicated stuff, so they sometimes say keep it at no more than 92%.
Mama's blood CO2 runs on the higher side, but the MDs who are supposed to know what they're talking about told me too high O2 is not a problem for her, so crank it up to whatever she likes. No higher try not to, but don't worry about the high O2 levels.
