He loved this album and played it often

16 One third of the way through Introduction to Operating Systems and, since last lecture, the value of the economy cores on CPUs we've read about here is starting to make sense.
This CS degree really has been an eye opener to the shiny little nuggets of ignorance I've been nursing all these years reading the daily tech news.
I just wanted a sit down job in air conditioning that wasn't sending emails!

Congressman Max Miller may well be a total psycho -- psychotic enough that he attacked his two-year-old daughter -- but public statements from his ex-wife, and ex-wife's father, are not reliable. Without independent fact-finding, it's impossible to know what really went on here

24 I remember "Tubular Bells" and that I liked it. I did not recall that the musician was English and did not know that he was nice looking, IMO:

29 I have been dealing with a cold making me miserable for the last couple of days, but the kitten has kept me amused . Not that he's trying to. He just is amusing. He hunches up his back and hops sideways. I call this move "Halloween Cat" or "Playing Richard III". He also gets up on our old rocking chair and puts his paws through as if he's trying to get out of prison.

I do think that younger people should have kittens and we should have gone for a settled older cat, but we love him.

The only reason I would want to see it is that I think Max Von Sydow was an excellent actor, but I mostly avoid creepy horror films and particularly those dealing with the supernatural.

39 One of the nice features of my movie vault/plex replacement is the search feature, it allows me to see where my gaps are.

My comedy collection was woefully low, rectifying that now.

Yes! I saw your poast, but haven't seen that particular episode of TZ. Imagining something like King's The Langoliers?

Interesting. And believable! Especially after the 18-month search...

Yep. Couple friends evac'd. Nobody lost anything yet. But neighborhoods surrounding them did. Way too close for comfort.

Check out watchduty.org (mobile) for fire map. Feels like tge whole of Eastern WA is on fire. AGI spiked to 250+ today.

48 Grumpy and Recalcitrant--

Hope your leg cramps subside!

Calves? I sometimes get "charlie horse" calf cramps. Can undo them by raising toes, lowering heel. Yes, got to jump up out of bed to do it, but the relief is instant. Hold the foot position for a few & let muscles relax.

51 Anyway! I'm up, sipping coffee, looking at a stunningly low (for here) temp of 77, and planning to go work out.

Later we will hit Walmart for supplies -- my refrigerator freezer has ice, one pot pie, three burritos, and some frozen peas and carrots. Nothing more. I dunno how that happened.

last night on Movies!, I watched the classic thriller Wait Until Dark w/ Audrey Hepburn and Alan Arkin -- it still pulls you in after sixty years! -- and Hitchcock's Strangers on a Train. I don't think I've ever seen the film all the way through; the denouement was new to me. Different from the book, I think, though I can't recall how it ended.

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at August 03, 2026 05:31 AM (wzUl9)

52 Ugh, 2:30 a.m. here-- I better get to bed.

Good night, all!
