BOONEVILLE, Miss. - A Mississippi property owner uncovered more than 200 Civil War-era cannonballs while preparing land for commercial development, and historians believe even more artifacts may still be buried. Harold Knight said he first found a single cannonball on his Booneville property before inviting people with metal detectors to search the site. The search quickly turned up hundreds of Civil War munitions, including grape shot, canister shot and case shot, all estimated to be more than 160 years old. Experts at the Booneville Rails & Trails Museum believe the ammunition is likely connected to either the Battle of Blackland or the Battle of Booneville, two Civil War battles fought in July 1862. ![]()

More than one recorded tune made the top 100 hit after the band had broken up. Or they didn’t exist, outside studio musicians. The labels would usually get some people together quickly to tour, re-releasing earlier tunes in a new album package including the hit.

There was also 16 RPM, for spoken language records, high fidelity not required. Maybe audio books. Blind folks used to be able to order all kinds of swag from the gubbmint, library of congress.

So a camera mount was custom built at @RITtigers to rotate once every 90 minutes using a 60 to 90 toothed gear system, cancelling out the orbital motion of ISS and allowing the capture of distant stars as fixed points!
In essence, it is a a rotational coil spring powered analog star tracker. It was machined out of aluminum and is entirely mechanical to bypass NASA's strict electrical requirements for cargo. We had to get creative Here is a sample of one of my favorite Milky Way photos, taken from the Cupola with Nikon Z9, Arri Zeiss 15mm lens, T1.8 with custom sidereal drive that cancelled out star motion relative to our orbit. It might have ended, I don't really pay attention. But there used to be annual gathering of Lovecraft fans that would come to Providence every fall and do tours, readings and other Lovecratian things. Still a bookstore in Providence centered around him. He was crazier than a shit house rat but his stories still have a lot of followers. Posted by: JackStraw at August 01, 2026 11:17 PM (viF8m) 194
