Little kitten was sleeping beside us in the bed last night . He's like purr machine. I would pet him and he'd start purring, and I'd stop petting him
And he'd stop purring. And he was a very god boy at the vet, but he climbed up my arm to sit on my shoulder. It didn't hurt me. Posted by: FenelonSpoke at July 24, 2026 05:01 AM (xSAlF) 19

I was hearing a raspy cry while I lay in bed. Thought maybe it was a bird in its final throes.
When I started bringing bird feeders and such out on to the deck I could hear it more clearly. There was a fox nearby. There were no bunnies to greet my and the little dog got a light on her collar. Posted by: fluffy at July 24, 2026 05:21 AM (V0/Sp) 31

Evening and morning, satellites and satraps of the vast AoSHQ Empire! 'Tis Friday at last, the consummation devoutly to be wished!
Fen, the kitten sounds like a charmer. I recall bringing little Arizona home from the SPCA, and trying to enclose him with his food and litter box in the kitchen of our apartment by rigging up a cardboard shield in the doorway (it had no door). The next morning I woke to find a tiny bundle of red tabby fur buzzing on my pillow. Big cat, as he grew to be, slept on my bed in one area of it or another pretty much his whole life. The Razor's Edge, the 1946 version from Somerset Maugham's novel, is on Movies! Elliott Templeton, the classic snob, is the role Clifton Webb was born to play. Herbert Marshall in the Maugham role tells Elliott as the latter is dying that he will find the company in heaven to be mixed, to which Elliott replies, "On the contrary. There will be none of this confounded democracy there!"

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at July 24, 2026 *** Oh, Arizona could be difficult and prickly. He hated going to the vet, hated moving, didn't like other cats, didn't like new male visitors to his territory (he was fine with the female ones!). But from the second day, there was never any question. He was my cat, I was his human, there, that's settled. Now when's dinner? @48/no one of any consequence:
XP and Windows 7 were the last truly good versions of windows in terms of "Fairly decent UI, and the OS gets out of the way to let you get on with using your computer the way you want to." Microslop lost the plot with versions 8.0 and beyond. I don't see things getting any better unless they lose a LOT of market share and are honest with themselves about all the bad decisions the company has made in recent years. (Yeah, that's not happening.) No hard workout this morning. At nine-thirty Miss Linda and I will go to the nearby mall for a mid-length (say, thirty minutes') walk.
I tried to talk to the IRS yesterday about my long-errant refund check. Both of the numbers they give on their website bring you to an automated assistant, who even with my SSN, etc., "can't find" my refund. There seems to be no way to talk to an actual human without making an in-person appointment at the only office downtown. The website has a "refund tracker" feature which gave the same info. Today I'll try it again and enter my original refund amount instead of the amended one. Maybe I'll get a new response. I'm rapidly coming to the point of saying "I guess I'll never see that check" and consider it found money if it ever does show up.
