US Pounds Iran Military Sites for Ninth Straight Night; Trump Announces Next Big Target?

About the strikes last night:

The United States broadened the scale and scope of its strikes against Iran on Monday, hitting a variety of targets including military bases, air defense systems and a city hosting a nuclear power plant.

The ninth consecutive night of U.S. strikes came on the back of the totalitarian Islamic regime delivering attacks in the region with strikes in Syria, Jordan and Kuwait overnight.

AFP reports in Bushehr, home to the country's only operational civilian nuclear power plant, governor Mohammad Mozaffari told state news agency IRNA: "A few minutes ago, several locations in Bushehr city were hit by American enemy's projectiles."

In East Azerbaijan province in the north, the head of the local crisis management unit Majid Farshi told IRNA that "one person was martyred and several others injured" in an attack there.

As Breitbart News reported, President Donald Trump said Sunday the U.S. had earlier struck Iran "very hard" in honor of three American servicemembers killed in recent days.

As mentioned, three servicemen were killed when Iran attacked US bases in Jordan.



Two U.S. service members were killed and one remains missing after Iran struck American forces in Jordan, U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said Saturday.

The command said the two troops were killed in action Friday while defending against Iranian ballistic missile and drone attacks, and confirmed four other service members were medically evacuated to Jordanian hospitals and have since been discharged.

Trump ordered the military to "open the gates of hell" to avenge their deaths.

The US is continuing to bomb naval assets to stop Iran from targeting shipping. Blue squares indicate US strikes on naval assets:

Iran has created a new facility at Pickaxe Mountain 100 feet beneath the rock. Intelligence says they're probably building a new uranium enrichment facility there:

On Hugh Hewitt, Trump confirmed that he is considering a ground-penetrating bomb strike on Pickaxe Mountain, where Iran is reportedly attempting to reboot their nuclear program.

It's the only proper way to fight a war, honestly. You have to be willing to potentially kill everybody among your enemies, including the women and children. A bit of both I suspect.
After the war of the cities with Iraq, Iran ramped up production of missiles and components. They also got smart enough to spread out the production. A lot of components are made in Omar's garage-like places across the country. They understand JIT production too.

The IRCG aren't even the only armed force in the country. And even they were, unarmed groups frequently raid armories. If the Iranians wanted to overthrow the government, they could easily have seized some area somewhere in that large country by now. They aren't rebelling because they have no interest in a new form of government.

I think Trump is lying his ass off about Iran's alleged deprecated abilities. One of many key elements in any war is propaganda. Trump is allowed to use it to his strategic advantage. He doesn't owe the enemy anything.

The other part of me is that the IC lies about everything and considers the current US Executive as an enemy to their existence and doesn't believe they owe their enemy any advantage either. Trump flat out told is, with receipts, last Thursday, that the IC deliberately lied to him and other administrations over pretty much everything they were relied upon to be in their domain.

So the current composition of the IC is seditious only in the sense their allegiance is to themselves and to no nation, no religion, no government.

We'd all like it at $50 or $60 but we've seen worse prices.

It wasn't an error. The planners clearly emphasized force protection, which is why losing two troops is news. That's not even a rounding error in most conflicts.

We do not have infinite resources, so we proceeded based on target priorities, first decapitating leadership and then targeting command and control and weapons stockpiles. They have lots of missiles, and hide them in schools and hospitals, so we can't easily get at them.

No plan is perfect and the enemy always gets a vote.

Most people want to live their lives--not fight in the streets to the death. The Red Revolution worked in part because you had a bunch of soldiers that weren't afraid of death and wholesale killing. Ditto Chinese Revolution, and so on. And that is why all authoritarian regimes that want to survive spend time periodically killing all the malcontents by luring them out into the open. Assad killing a bunch of Muslim Brotherhood at Hama. King Hussein killing a bunch of Palis trying to overthrow him in the early 70's, and so on.

A whiff of grapeshot works because unless the resistance is so massive or unexpected, most regimes can weather the initial blow, it is the later ones that can suddenly lead to regime collapse.

That seems likely, and my responses to some people here is because 1) I'm tired on tousi or whatever his name is being cited as a source and 2) being promised that the Iranians will rise up, or that they would if only they had weapons. Lots of successful revolutions started off with crowds with no weapons at all.

I don't really have an opinion about how much more Iran's economy can take, or how powerful their remaining military is. Drones are cheap after all, and they can do long-range damage, as Ukraine and Russia have shown. It could be that most of the oil emirates prefer dealing with Israel than the monster that Iran has turned out to be. Even the Arab street is quiescent because they have an alternative ethnic group to hate--Persians.

And I think all sides are making preparations for the US to be a lot less engaged in the Middle East defense policy, like Nato, than we used to be.

The Hyundai gets excellent gas mileage, usually over 40 mpg. We drive that most of the time.
