As US Forces Knock Out Iranian Power Plants, the IRGC Tells Iranians to be Like the UK and France and Turn Off the AC and Die In the Summer Heat

Trump's bombing them all the way back to modern day Europe.

Iran has told its citizens to turn off their air conditioning during peak hours as the country's power grid came under strain amid US strikes.

Tehran's energy ministry said that the power restrictions were necessary 'to help ensure a stable electricity supply in the southern provinces, which are currently facing extreme heat and attacks on electricity supply facilities.'

Temperatures in the capital were expected to hit triple digits Friday, with highs of 102F on Saturday and Sunday.

Donald Trump ordered the US military to hit Iranian bridges throughout coastal cities along the Strait of Hormuz. A report from Iranian state media claims an American missile struck Qeshm, an island which is home to a hidden 'missile city' buried underground. The US also fired on a ship which was trying to breach the blockade.

Qeshm extends out into the Strait and is, presumably, a key staging area for attacks on shipping. US forces appear to be attempting to bomb all roads and bridges to the island, to cut it off completely.

...

Just hours prior, Trump directed the US military to hit Iranian bridges throughout coastal cities along the Strait of Hormuz.

Iranian officials reported Thursday explosions in Bandar Abbas and two blasts in Bushehr, home to Iran's largest civilian nuclear plant.

The US said its forces struck Iranian command centers, air defense sites, missile and drone capabilities, and coastal surveillance facilities tied to the battle over the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran hit the power infrastructure of other Gulf states in retaliation.

@SpencerGuard

Updates on Iran: Following the breakdown of the ceasefire/memorandum of understanding, fighting has escalated/resumed over the past 6 days (roughly July 13--17), with the US conducting multiple nights of strikes and Iran lashes out.

US (according to USCENTCOM) has conducted strikes for six consecutive nights, using aircraft, drones, warships, and precision munitions. The stated goal is to degrade Iran's ability to threaten commercial shipping in the Strait of Hormuz.

Key targets hit (primarily southern/coastal Iran, focused on Bandar Abbas area and nearby islands):

* Coastal defense systems, air defenses, radar/coastal surveillance sites, missile/drone capabilities, command centers, and maritime/small boat assets.

* Locations: Bandar Abbas (port/naval hub), Qeshm Island, Kish Island, Abu Musa, Bushehr province (including Jam and Kangan), Chah Bahar (Chabahar), Jask, Konarak, Sistan-Baluchestan province (including areas near Rask and Saravan), and others.

* Military Infrastructure: Bridges (at least six in Hormozgan province), a maritime control tower in Chabahar (collapsed), military logistics infrastructure, and some inland sites (e.g., airports, possible rail/power elements).

You just reminded me of a pet peeve of mine. The phrase, "All that glitters is not gold." I hate it so much. Gold glitters. It's false. More formally, if you take the set of all things that glitter, nothing within that set is gold. Obviously that's not true.

What you mean to say is, "Not all that glitters is gold." Meaning, of the set of all things that glitter, not everything in that set is gold. That is correct.

Bruce Springstain's mumbling lyrics period where he tried to emulate Bob Dylan with less clever lyrics. His original take on Blinded by the Light is much inferior to Manfred Mann's later hit version.

Same with Fire and the Pointer Sisters or Because the Night with Patti Smyth. All of these were better singers than him and all of those songs did better with those groups covering them than his original version.

183 A reminder that, when the war started, the Democrats have been flopping back and forth between "Illegal War! Warmonger! Impeach!" and "TACO! Trump Always Chickens Out!".

Few dems in power ever mention the threat of nuclear material. Of which the Iranians themselves stupidly claimed to have as part of their strong-horse dick-waving. Nor of the long-range missiles they proved to have in the early days of the war; the ones they weren't supposed to have or develop.

But they sure as hell were going to grandstand against the war. And they would whip their caucas to deny continuing authorization of the war, under that whole War Powers act.

So, Trump pushes for the MOU and a peace agreement. Open the straight. No more attacking ships. We stop bombing Iran. And with that, the 60-day window of the act gets thrown out.

Yeah, Iran's leaders are a bunch of filthy liars; taqiyya and all that.

But on the other hand, our army could taqiyya too. Restock our own bombs and missiles. Track what the hell they're doing, where all the heat signatures suddenly begin to congregate during the "peace" time. And when Iran could no longer help itself, we now have another 60 days to pound them.

We're targeting civilian infrastructure. The US Military is following orders to commit war crimes in an unconstitutional war. Laws are fake if they aren't enforced. A lot of people need to go to prison for this.

This is why Marco Rubio wants to dismantle the International Criminal Court. He’s committing war crimes right and left and doesn’t want to be prosecuted for them.

Gas prices go higher, GOP approval goes lower! 😃

if there is anything that’s going to get us to the point where Republicans propaganda starts to break down, it’s going to be a failing economy. I want Trump voters to feel actual physical pain, listening to Fox News.

I think the only way out of this (to a point of stability) is a Great Depression tier collapse. Something like energy crisis + AI bubble burst + housing crash (replace any of these with: drawn out super El Niño, invasion of Taiwan, corporate bond failure, student loan bubble) followed by a new era of reconstruction. You’re absolutely correct… it will suck balls. It’s honestly more likely that Trump just pseudo-coups the USA and the country backslides further.

To cut to the chase, the poll shows the regime, its works, and its policies to be just extraoridnarily unpopular.

The people can't afford food. This was in May. I suspect it's gotten worse. They have a very bleak view of their future. They would like to see fundamental changes made in the govt.

The article points out (intuitively correct) that the terrible polling data likely understates the real extent of disapproval... because many people are afraid to answer.

I've often wondered-- if the U.S. set up a Free Iran Republic, perhaps in the Kurdish territory, if many non-Kurds might rally to it.

332 One rumor or theory is that Dylan avoided the draft, he was prime age, by eschewing the “protest” schtick and tunes.

“Magee’s Farm” tells the tale, in this account, a mangling of the McGee farm, where he played some tunes down south during a voter registration drive or whatever. Everyone was polite as could be, but “who the hell is this guy” wasn’t too far under the surface.

I think it was Joan Baez among others who were upset Bob stood down from opining too heavily on political issues.

“I’m just a song and dance man” was how he described himself at a press conference in California in 1965. Good for him.

A lot of analysis has gone into the PLAN's new carriers. There's speculation the next one they build will be nuke powered. That'll be interesting. The CCP has a lot invested in their Navy right now, but they're still unable to fully operate a carrier strength air wing off of any of their flattops.

Although they have (somewhat) got a grip on nuke power for some of their submarines. Of course the do not advertise anything like a safety record on them.

Well, yea -- but that would be a longer, drawn-out war, which is how I think this will end up. It's more likely to fade into the background while continuing -- like the war in Ukraine that 99% of people forgot about -- than end in spectacular fashion with the collapse of Iran.

Could be, or maybe not. An intelligence agency that can't forecast the collapse off the USSR is probably not going to get it right. However, in the meantime, we can just wait until the IRGC holdouts have had enough bombing. It sucks for the people of Iran, but it gives our fifth column leftists nothing to work with.

So after he tackled mental illness in Dark Side of the Moon (Syd Barrett), the music business (Wish you were Here), he started in on Orwell (Animals) and then the Wall where he had his own reckoning with the alienating effects of musical stardom, his father's death at Anzio and a fear of an Orwellian government. Final Cut dealt with Maggie's England and nuclear war.

Then he went totally anti-Semite. From what I recall, part of the Wall's bitter ashes of stardom was from the Animal's tour where Roger got annoyed at a fan yelling and screaming on the front row for every song--loud or soft. So he beckoned the fan closer and then spit on him from the stage.

it is never clear until the collapse happens. That's why it is called a collapse.

I agree that there is "a lot of ruin in a nation" so people who think if it doesn't go down in a week everything has failed are being silly.

What I don't see yet is any sign that the country is rallying and getting stronger. Factions fight factions, leaders get killed, the 'reprisals' become weaker and nations join our alliance and join in.

429 392. Its the same as Boomers claiming "Vietnam Era Vet". They were never in country.
Posted by: Noise Gate

"Era" designation, could be likely they were not in country.

HOWEVER, Millions of Baby Boomers served as soldiers during the Vietnam Era. Born between 1946 and 1964, they comprised the primary generation that fought in the conflict. While roughly half of the draft-eligible men in that generation received deferments (often for college), millions of others volunteered or were drafted.

Older Boomers (born 1946–1952) were the demographic most heavily impacted by the draft and were the soldiers who fought on the ground during the height of the Vietnam War in the 1960s.

Younger Boomers (born 1953–1964) were teenagers or younger during the majority of the conflict. By the time the draft lottery was introduced in 1969 and the draft ended in 1973, many were still too young to serve.

Overall, roughly 10 percent of all Baby Boomer men served in the U.S. armed forces, with millions actively deployed to Southeast Asia.

God bless them.

Actually it was mental illness. Syd Barrett whether he fried his brain on LSD. other drugs, or whether he used it to treat whatever mental problems he had actually showed up at the lengthy recording sessions for Dark Side.

He was unrecognizable to the rest of the band from the Syd they all knew. The link between mental illness and drug usage is slippery and depends on just what drug and what their preexisting, usually unknown, mental issues were.

Add in the pressure of public performing, constant requirements of the biz to do promos, record more songs, make hits, ego development from being worshipped, etc., is not the best environment for healthy living. Bad Finger had two suicides in part based on such stress and a real villain as manager.

Probably so. It led Pete Townshend to several nervous breakdowns and his Punk and Godfather song on Quadrophenia directly addresses it.

Stones did It's Only Rock and Roll for similar reasons after Brian Jones and then Mick Taylor imploded.

A birdseye view, that sometimes lacks the details that we crave, is Soundman by legendary sound engineer and producer Glyn Johns. He notes the issues carefully with working with so many bands and keeps it ground to avoid making broader assertions about the stars he worked with. By doing so, he avoided any legal hassles from those still living.

Piper's at the Gates of Dawn, Syd's girlfriend on the minor hit of See Emily Play notes that it was about the name of a future hoped for child of the two, not from drugs. Brian Jones dabbled in psychedelics but combined them with uppers and downers and alcohol. Like Keith Moon, Brian took everything and anything.
