Secret Passages and Doodle Mansions Cafe

manhattanhenge.jpg
"Manhattanhenge" sunset this past weekend,
when the path of the sun lines up over NYC's streets

Good internet correction.

A micro-drone that hunts... mosquitos.

I, Pencil.

World's worst drivers.

Orange C-section.

Fun short film about the practical drawbacks of time travel. If you know the Rick and Morty "Vat of Acid" episode, this will be familiar. Very familiar. Rick and Morty seem to have swiped the basic idea.

Flea-sy Rider.

Shadow Frogger.

This cat is aura-maxxing and mogging me with all his rizz. I don't understand what I just said either.

Cats with both black and orange are almost always female. The different colors are from having 2 different X chromosomes so parts of the body use one, and others the second. Females have to turn off one or the other pretty early in development. A gene on the X determines if orange color replaces black color.

I don't think Mexico should really want to open that door if they have been conducting "refugees", who are supposed to stop at the first country they are safe in, all the way through Mexico and into the US.

If they did, it would kind of suggest that people in the US are NOT "subject to [our] jurisdiction" just because they are here and not supposed to be breaking our laws. (Which they are, anyway).

What is stupid that we use Standard Time for only four months of the year. What's the point?

No, it is pushed by outdoor industries like golf because people can get in a few holes after work due to the extra daylight.

And for that reason, it will never go away. There is corporate money behind it.

So the options are stupid clock-changing or not, and since the bulk of the year uses DST anyway, I'm fine with leaving it there.

Isaac Asimov wrote a story about this, nearly his last Robot story. People's fear of Robots has led to them being almost illegal, so US Robots makes a new robot with a small modification of the three laws. He suggests making animal robots - like a robo-bird to kill bugs, etc. to guide the ecology. The plan is that eventually a robo-man will not seem scary to humans. The robots suggested it because the change to their brains enables them to considers robots as humans too, and their kind of human will be the one to dominate the future.

We are now a 24-hour culture, people work odd hours, and night or day just isn't that big a deal. In the 1970, the vast majority of kids walked to school, so sending them out in the dark was scary. Now they either take the bus or get dropped off. ALL the schools in my district have been rebuilt with huge loops for drop-offs that have ample lighting. The younger cat was much more reasonable but then our middle kid took her to college, and she lived in a suite where everyone loved her and fed her. She got morbidly obese and when she came home, we put her on a diet.

So if the goal is to keep the clocks the same, that's the only open path.

162 Good point. The old school radicals were tough. Agreed.

Still, it is a mistake to think they are all soybois and poofters. Hell, the trannies are quite murderous and especially violent. I didn’t have that on my bingo card

166 It's very rare I watch the big three stations anymore. Maybe the local news and weather. National new I'll watch Newsmax or Fox.

I have an antenna I put up during football season to watch college games, which means I get maybe nine over the course of a Saturday, which is fine, I don't need to spend that much time on the couch.

I kind of like inconsequential teams playing each other. I like dozing off the sound of football and wind in the trees outside.

Yeah, they are committed but also unhinged and hard to control. Basically freelance kamikazes.

Without the comma, this sounds vaguely dirty.

"NOOD SPEECH" also sounds vaguely dirty.

Yeah, and that's what a dishonest person says when faced with a factual argument.

There is no constituency for year-round Standard Time. It's my preference, but it's also unrealistic, so I'm pragmatic enough to accept the least worst alternative.

We did, and I believe that a number of those fires were ARSON related.

There was a satellite tame lapse photo of the western fires:
Clear Skies prior to the outbreak of simultaneous fires, running in a line from south to north (5 to 11 on the clock).
They just up and started ... no lightning strikes ...

I call this Eco Terrorism
