Councilmember Raman, the chair of the Los Angeles City Council's Housing and Homelessness Committee, introduced the Time Limited Subsidy program back in September as a cheaper alternative to Mayor Karen Bass' Inside Safe Program -- meant to get homeless people into an established residence.

Raman's plan was to lease and move homeless people into 2,000 apartments and subsidize their rent, rather than pay for them to stay in motels or shelters.
However, nearly a year after that plan was launched -- with $62.6 million in taxpayer funds behind it -- only three apartments are occupied.

The City Council first approved investing in the subsidy model last September as part of its strategy for complying with a court settlement with the Los Angeles Alliance for Human Rights.
Four months later, on January 28, the council approved resources for a redesigned program targeting 2,000 households.
The full rollout began March 1.
However, only three units had occupants by June 25, according to a July 1 presentation to Raman's powerful homeless committee -- a damning result for a program Raman has campaigned to take citywide if elected Mayor.

Casting choices are made for a ton of reasons -- artistic and commercial.
Nolan is not a particularly ideological or subversive filmmaker. His filmography is clear on that.
Also, what's the proof that he used a "wokified translation"? He said he read Watson's along with others.
And if casting an Oscar-winning actress in a minor role is "controversial" because she's black, well, it says more about the people who find it controversial than it does about him.

Nolan named the "woke" translation as the first of the translations he consulted. And the African "Helen of Troy" confirms that the movie has rewritten the Odyssey to be more female-centric, which was the whole point of the woke feminist translation.

22 Afternoon, news folken! I got the car's rear brakes done this morning, which took ninety minutes because the rear brakes include the electric parking brake. The system kept lighting up the "Service Brakes" light.

Finally my mechanic did the obvious. He disconnected and reconnected he battery. Problem solved. I had to re-enter the time and date; otherwise, nothing was lost.

Maybe it was the nice suburban roads I was on, but after the work the Buick seemed to ride even more nicely than it did a couple of days ago. Ain't that always the way?

They film night scenes in such a way that you can barely tell who the camera is focused on, and even indoor scenes, if they are not dim and shadowy, have one window in the scene with bright light bursting through it, so the people in the room are hard to see.

Given the age of the piece, I'd argue that the colors are probably close because if it had been exposed to a decay source the entire head would be gone.

But looking at surviving wall art, the color and features match pretty well with the current Egyptian/Syrian/North African shade - creme to light brown, no large amount of mixing with subSaharan Africa. And given the distance even using the Nile as a transport route this isn't a shock.

Also Egyptian portrayals of Nubians look very different from their portrayals of themselves. Also Syrians look different too.

he was born in Carthage, Spain wasn't really super colonialized at the time of the First Punic War over Sicily that his father fought in. After the loss of Sicily Carthage firmed up its physical hold on Spain to compensate under his father and others so he spent a lot of time there as a cadet. When his father and older relatives were killed there he took over the rule of Spain as a personal fiefdom, more or less and built his army to go for Rome.

Berkeley, some years back, basically offered free housing to any homeless person. But with ne provis: No drugs in thefree house. The proviso was necessary becuase if you allow drug, the houses almost immediately become "shooting galleries" where addicts shoot up, overdose, die, etc., and the city would have more lawsuits than it could handle for basically facilitating the death of these people. So: No drugs.

Guess what happened? 99% of the street bums refused the free housing, but they'd much rather be free to take drugs and live on the street than get a free house but be forced to stop drugs.

That's how addicted they are. The drugs are mre important than anything, even theirnow comfort.

Sae program happened in Oakland, AND FAILED. Same program was tested in SF, AND FAILED. Elsewhere too.

So along comes Nithya Raman saying, "Hey' I have a brilliant idea to solve homelessness! Offer them free housing!" SRLY???
