Top Story

Apple's upcoming M7 processor, destined for a full rollout with Pro, Max, and Ultra models, is expected to support as much as 1.5TB of RAM for local AI and other massively intensive workloads. (WCCFTech)

Which will cost $37,500. For the RAM. The rest of the computer will be... Actually relatively inexpensive.
Apple is already working on the next-generation M8 chip, which will use a 1.4nm process. (WCCFTech)

TSMC plans initial production of 1.4nm chips in 2028, so this is likely three years away.

Tech News

AMD's latest graphics driver update brings ray regeneration (improved ray tracing), radiance caching, and multi-frame generation. (WCCFTech)

Frame generation is a sore spot for many games. It uses AI to generate in-between frames to smooth out game graphics, much the same way upscaling generates in-between pixels to make each frame of graphics look better.

The problem is that the overhead of frame generation makes the game run slower rather than faster, while it looks smoother. The imbalance can be jarring.
If Apple's Lisa - now available in an FPGA for for $350 - is too fancy for you, why not go seriously old school with an Apple I? (Tom's Hardware)

Apart from the fact that it costs as much as a house.

12 In 1976, computers, even as a hobby, were not really on my radar. Mrs. Wolfus No. 1 and I would go to the computer lab at her college in Lafayette, LA, and play a "Star Trek" game on one of the terminals, but it was not a graphical game; you had to picture where your ship was and tell the computer how to move it by entering the coordinates. Your opponent would do the same -- I think. Or it might have been that the computer made its ship move a la chess, and then you had to respond to it. It's been a while since all that.

Lousy-ana and Indiana are right next to each other on the "worst" list! The only complaints CNBC has about IN is that it's weak on child care, air quality, and health care. LA gets blasted for high crime (agreed), and poor "inclusiveness" and "reproductive rights."

LOL - Texas is rated as second worst after Tennessee - even though more people are moving in to Texas than to any other State. (To be fair, a couple others have higher percentage increases.)

If he'd been a little taller -- and Hollywood could have worked around that, as they did for Alan Ladd -- he'd have made a pretty good Bond in the '80s.

He was Australian, and as far as I know kept his mouth shut about his politics; it was all about the work.

I remember him from "In the Mouth of Madness" (one of those movies where you watch the ending and immediately go back and watch the whole things again) and "Event Horizon". He did 'weird and disturbing' movies exceptionally well. I knew if I saw him in a picture, things were going to get interesting for the characters in a Chinese-curse sort of way.

Good actor, pity he's gone.

At first I think he believed it was a snake and hopped away from it in a comic fashion but now he's he used to it . I probably mentioned that he is named "Millard " for Millard Fillmore, the former President from the 1800's.

Why "Millard" of all the presidents? That name makes me think of the word "mallard." At first I considered naming Stirling "Marlin," like the fish or rifle, but realized in time that I'd probably start calling him "Marvin," a la Marvin the Martian from the WB Bugs Bunny cartoons. Not a flattering model or moniker.

These Mexican recipes don't look like much, but they're deceptively difficult to get right. Fortunately, within a 10-minute drive at my house I have about six places I can go that are all off the charts great; these examples guided me through my failures. Now that I have a good red base figured out, my next move is is to go after authentic chili Colorado. The degree of difficulty here is it includes lard. That ought to be worth about five or six failures.

Only disease I can think of is caffeine addiction but that's a lifestyle choice.

Basically, I'm a government contractor. My contract is going through some changes with the prime company so we weren't allowed to work until this gets resolved. They cleared me and one other person to go back.

71 I had a lawyer client in the 80s who had an Apple Lisa. His secretary kept screwing it up and it spent more time with us than with him. It was an odd machine and nobody liked it. Those lawyers loved the original Apple Laser Printer though. They were the best printer around at the time.
