Musical Interlude

Yes, I've been rewatching Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon a.k.a Danmachi, prompted by its availability in full on Hidive, which I picked up a subscription to at 75% off during Amazon's Prime Day sale. This song is the closing theme for the first season.

Of course, seasons two and four left the service before I got to them, and season two is not available for streaming on other services in Australia due to the regional rights being a big ball of mud... Not available legitimately.

Oh, and I missed that the new Tenchi Galaxy series is being funded through a Kickstarter project. If you're interested, I regret to inform you that you're too late... It's already reached its goal. You have 57 days to chip in if you'd like, though.

(2) Irish ferry timetables and fares in Galway Bay in 1911
(3) The arms and armour of the Galatian mercenaries in the service of Nicomedes I of Bithnyia in 278 BC

WASHINGTON — Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who was elected to the Senate in 2003 and was a close political ally of President Donald Trump, has died, his office confirmed early Sunday. He was 71.

Graham died Saturday night “from a brief and sudden illness,” his office said in a statement.

It’s hilarious how so many self-proclaimed smart people buy the official Charlie Kirk Narrative, when anyone with any reasoning ability at all can see that he faked his own death, got a sex change, did a Black Like Me thing, and is now living as “Candace Owens”

It's true that the dimensional decompactification doesn't apply to the Irish ferries or the Galatians. It does impact the nudibranchs, though. And it is all the one story.

41 Evening and morning to the late toilers and the early risers across the vast AoSHQ Empire!

First Q: Was this Vint Cerf guy any relation to famous publisher and TV panelist Bennett Cerf? It's an unusual family name (it means "male deer" in French), so I naturally wonder.

Second Q: Lindsay Graham has croaked? Torabora's inquiry, "Was it the Clot Shot?" is pertinent.

Aside from that: I be up, sipping coffee, planning to work out and get cleaned up before the Book Thread (I have a new book I'm loving!), and another video tour of a house at nine a.m. Somewhere in there I'll fit in breakfast and maybe a pipe. Howzabout choo?

44 We watched Bette Davis in Dark Victory last night. I'd never seen all of it, and Linda says she'd never even *heard* of the film. A standout performance from Bette, by turns flippant, manic, delighted, depressed, and more; and a change-of-pace role for Bogart as her Irish horse trainer, proving yet again that he had acting skills that were rarely tapped.

50 >>> First Q: Was this Vint Cerf guy any relation to famous publisher and TV panelist Bennett Cerf? It's an unusual family name (it means "male deer" in French), so I naturally wonder.

Have wondered the same. They appear to be unrelated, but Vint Cerf did name his son Bennett. Both famous Cerf trace ancestry to Alsace.

Second Q: Lindsay Graham has croaked? Torabora's inquiry, "Was it the Clot Shot?" is pertinent.

Wikipedia states that his father died of a heart attack at age 69.

Posted by: Captain Obvious, Laird o' the Sea at July 12, 2026 06:18 AM (amcLV)

56 Whew. Second cup of coffee, and time to rinse out the cats' bowls and put a can of chow out so I can feed them when I get back from the walking trail.

This will be a busy week. I have a dr. appointment, a six-months' check-in; I want to get the car's rear brakes done; I need to call those Fidelity people, as I have not yet seen the big pension check they promised would be here by 6/29; and (horrors!) call the IRS to ask about the refund they said I'd get six weeks from late May.

And who knows, I may be involved in making an offer on this new house if today's video tour goes well.

Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at July 12, 2026 06:18 AM (wzUl9)

57 If I had to guess I’d say McMaster appoints Lt. Governor Pamela Evette, who just lost the governor’s race primary to Alan Wilson, to replace Lindsey. McMaster wanted her to succeed him, and Trump endorsed her for the run, so it would make sense as a consolation prize.

If that happens Evette will probably run in the primary for the six year term, and I imagine she’ll have some competition, Mace might be among them, for that open senate seat.
