How many of you drink Diet Coke regularly? Did you know it could do THIS??

Woman Drinks Diet Coke to Dissolve Huge Mass in Her Stomach

They say soda is bad for you, and that is probably right in most cases, but if you happen to have a stomach clogged with undigested food, it can apparently be a big help! A team of doctors from Massachusetts recently reported the unusual case of an elderly woman with a large benzoar in her stomach who managed to dissolve the large mass by drinking 1.5 liters of Diet Coke per day.

Writing in the New England Journal of Medicine, the doctors reported that the patient had been experiencing a burning pain in her upper abdomen and right side of her torso for about a month when she finally came in for a checkup. She had tried two common over-the-counter medications for acid reflux, but they had no effect.

***

Because of her history of diabetes, the woman was prescribed diet soda, but because she didn’t enjoy carbonated drinks, the recommended 3 liters were cut down to just 1.5 liters per day. Still, the treatment proved remarkably effective! During her second day of treatment, the patient reported a “tugging” sensation in her stomach, after which her nausea and discomfort disappeared. A subsequent endoscopy confirmed that the benzoar had dissolved.

I've used Coca Cola to dissolve corrosion on car battery terminals. I'm not at all surprised at what cola / diet cola can do.

Paris Haute Couture Fall/Winter 2026: Where Drama met more Drama!

Paris wrapped another round of Haute Couture magic (July 6–9, 2026), and mon dieu, what a week! While the city sweated through record heat, the runways delivered pure escapism. Here’s our playful roundup of the absolute crème de la crème.

Matthieu Blazy’s Chanel: A Whimsical Fairytale Garden

Matthieu Blazy transformed Paris’s Grand Palais into an enchanted garden for Chanel’s Fall/Winter 2026 Haute Couture show. Picture a magical garden alive with oversized blooms, cascading florals, and hanging vines, the perfect backdrop for a collection that blended house heritage with pure fantasy.

Tweed suits got a fresh, romantic update with delicate embellishments while feathery textures, iridescent fabrics, and pops of vibrant color (lunar teals, ember pinks, and acid greens) brought the fairytale to life. Classic codes like camellias and pearls were reimagined in playful ways. Blazy continues to breathe new life into Chanel while honoring its soul.

Jonathan Anderson at Dior: Garden Party Meets Avant-Garde

Anderson continued his Dior journey with a lush, nature-inspired collection full of ruffles, florals, and architectural tailoring. Picture voluminous bubble skirts, pleated masterpieces, and flower-embellished pieces that felt both romantic and modern. The Jardin des Tuileries setting? Perfection. It was a love letter to couture craftsmanship with a cheeky energy. By the way, Mr. Anderson designed Taylor Swift’s wedding gown.

IMG_2319-rr.jpg

Schiaparelli’s Surrealist Spectacle

Daniel Roseberry stayed true to the house’s playful DNA with “The Call of the Void”: bold, body-skimming pieces, exaggerated embellishments, and the signature surreal touch. Think sculptural latex alongside glittering florals and architectural details that made you do a double-take. Pure theater, and we loved every second.

Iris van Herpen: Sonic Starquakes – Where Science Becomes Wearable Art

No one blends fashion, technology, and the cosmos quite like Iris van Herpen. For her Fall/Winter 2026 Haute Couture collection “Sonic Starquakes,” she dove deep into astrophysics, creating pieces inspired by vibrating stars, exploding supernovae, spiraling galaxies, and the turbulent beauty of plasma.

This wasn’t just inspiration, it was innovation. Van Herpen introduced actual plasma into couture for the first time, with glowing, charged ions captured in hand-blown glass and tulle. The result? Ethereal dresses that looked like they were woven from starlight itself. If you love fashion that commands a room, this was your show

IMG_2334-rr.jpg

Paris Couture 2026 proved once again that fashion isn’t just clothes, it’s fantasy and storytelling in wearable form. Whether you’re team dramatic or whimsical, this season gave us all the inspiration we need to be a little bigger and bolder in what we wear.

DJ Doof - Stuff I Heard Today Edition

***

Speaking of music - how many of you have gotten back into listening to vinyl? I've been dabbling in it, but I need a good turntable (recommendations welcomed!) for my growing collection. Anyway, sometimes the old ways are good ways.

Never before in our industry has a format come back from the dead quite like vinyl

In case you hadn’t realised, vinyl is making a bit of a comeback. Who would have guessed that a plastic disc which first arrived on the scene in 1931 would still be bringing so much joy 95 years later?

Although a lot has changed in the world over that time, the format itself and the techniques used to create it haven’t evolved massively. So, is vinyl currently as good as it gets, or could it be improved upon?

Personal opinion - listening to music on vinyl is a great throwback experience. Warmth and imperfections take the listener back to a different era. For my tastes, I say listening to a CD with big-ass, over-the-ear headphones is the best for audio clarity. What say you?

Vinyl worked because its imperfections sound nice to humans. But you can just record those same imperfections into a digital format and have the same experience over and over without worrying about wearing out your albums, if that's what you want.

"Vinyl" in a sense may continue on far past the end of this planet. This came up a few nights ago on an ONT. While they're weren't vinyl, both Voyager probes contained phonograph records made of gold plated copper with sounds and video from earth, a "message in a bottle tossed in the interstellar ocean" as Billions and Billions Carl Sagan described it.

They even included a needle to play it back, and instructions on how to do so. Sagan and Frank Drake were pretty clever in how they encoded those instructions and the map of its point of origin in both space and time. They used the universal language of mathematics and the physical constants.

But it would make the clothing design sell better among the masses if they bothered to do things like match the colors to the model's skin tones better, or for example not make the blue dress so 'busy' with oversized gubbins. There were a few (especially the last two and one of the ones in the lower third) that were almost sane and almost suitable for wearing in public - do better, Piper! The 1980 Chevrolet Citation’s biggest issue was its lethal rear-brake defect, which caused the rear wheels to lock under moderate-to-heavy braking. Here is the end of an evening prayer by John Bailie

"And now, O Lord, give me a quiet mind, as I lay down to rest. Dwell in my thoughts till sleep overtake me. Let me not be fretted by the lesser interests of life. Let no troubled dreams disturb me, so that I may awake refreshed and ready for the tasks of another day."

162 I will never be happy til I have a metal armadillo purse like that first model. Or whatever rodent that could be.

I also cannot imagine wearing latex or vinyl or whatever some of that is. Probably not latex. Pleather? Nope!

I love Sophie Cunningham, no lesbo. She's grand.

Regarding vinyl records, I still have most of mine from HS and college. Someone broke into my apt between moves and stole my turntable and some of my albums, and may he have plague fleas forever. We still have a lot and listen to them shooting pool. I would have to look at the type of turntable as no idea.

I have my grandmother's 100yr old mahogany Victrola Credenza in the LR. A brother of hers took out speakers? from the inside and that is storage shelving now, but it still plays from the top and I have the crank up handle. Also have a collection of her records: super thick plastic. Big band stuff or classical.

This is how it looks:

I have a lot of vinyl albums.
My late, oldest brother had a good share of the original rock and roll albums from the fifties, Everly Brothers, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, Fats Domino. 218 I bought a lot of cassette tapes in high school—the Columbia Record and Tape Club. I know some people complained about the prices after the initial d20 albums for a penny or whatever it was but it beat the alternative: there were no record stores near me. Got turned on to some great artists the few times I decided to accept the album of the month, to: Boz Scaggs, maybe Peter Frampton.

However, I started buying vinyl at college. There were a couple of good record stores in town and I was beginning to realize that cassettes were very fragile. They deteriorated over time. They got stuck in players. So I would buy vinyl and immediately record onto cassette for listening in the car and such. I still have most of those records and they’re in a lot better shape than some of the used vinyl I buy today from that era!

I average 1 or 2 Coke's a week if I need a boost of energy and/or if I have a headache I take with 2 Advil and it cures me.

Perhaps this with genetics is why my cholesterol has never been high as my pipes are cleared of corrosion.

No issues with it until its final year and then everything just crapped out and I traded it in for a Saturn. That car was garbage and I got rid of it in 2014 for a Honda Civic and that car is a solid little tank. I love it. It just works! I still miss that Cavalier. Nothing fancy, just ran.

227 I've used Coca Cola to dissolve corrosion on car battery terminals. I'm not at all surprised at what cola / diet cola can do.

---

Coke and Pepsi both have phosphoric acid in them to give them a unique flavor and balance out the sweetness

Phosphoric acid is the main ingredient in a product called Crud Cutter. Crud Cutter is used to dissolve rust off of old machinery.

Don't freak out though, the acid in your stomach is hydro-chloric (HCl) and it is a way stronger acid than phosphoric.

While we're at it, don't disrespect vinegar (acetic acid). It will burn and crack your skin and make your fingernails fall off if you are over-exposed to it.

249 I never stopped listening to vinyl. In the late 90's I bought a new Pioneer stereo, but it didn't come with a turntable. I thought no problem, I had my great JVC turntable. Turned out the stereo had no dedicated input for a turntable and you had to use the aux - which had no amplification. My father in law got me a new Pioneer turntable with the preamp built in, and it's still going great. I'm sure there are lots of good ones out there, I would beware of paying humongous prices though. I play it through the speakers, I don't like things stuck on me.

Also, my best friend's dad worked for GM and bought the mom a new Citation when they first came out. Huge lemon.

252 Vinyl worked because its imperfections sound nice to humans. But you can just record those same imperfections into a digital format and have the same experience over and over without worrying about wearing out your albums, if that's what you want.
Posted by: mikeski

About 20 years ago I got it into my head to digitize my LP's. I got a few done, but never finished because it was very time consuming. I had a gadget that you could use to connect the stereo amplifier to your computer. You could download the digitizing software to your computer. It was basically inputing the music into your computer, then the software digitized it. I still have some of the digitized music on my laptop, and it has the little LP noises that you get when you play an LP on your turntable.

261 Doof, I saved all my vinyl from my youth and have added to it as it has come back. The records are more expensive because many are thicker, than some of the paper thin pressings of the past.

I'd look at Audio-Technica first. Multiple price points, solid performance. What do you want it to do, they do bluetooth now. My set up wanted it out in the room, not back in the audio stack, and I had some old Crosby Christmas 78's I wanted to play. I'm running a LP120XBT-USB.

Digital I think probably always sounds better, or more true. But I like the album sound. Have enjoyed grabbing albums I missed growing up.

Perhaps they get eyeballs and then more people buy actual clothes from them, or perhaps rich people today are so weird they buy and wear the weird stuff.

I started digitizing my collection as soon as I started using iTunes. Just a bit at a time, and I make it a point to always and immediately digitize any album I buy so that I never fell behind.

I ended up buying a FireWire device for my computer because USB wasn’t really fast enough to transfer audio in real time. I still have it. The last computer I owned with FireWire is now dedicated to being a ripping station.

268 252> About 20 years ago I got it into my head to digitize my LP's.

There are a number of Traditional Audio Effect software packages that will automagically add vinyl cracks and surface noise, tape saturation, tube warmth, slight analog imperfections, slight compression, subtle wow and flutter (tiny pitch variations) and EQ curves that mimic record playback so well that a converted pristine digital recording is no different than if it came from an old LP.

It will take V'ger 1 about 30K years to reach the edge of the Oort Cloud.

There is a little red dwarf, about 1/4 of the sun's mass that headed out way like a bat out of hell at 112 km/s. In 40K years, V'ger 1 will be 1.7 light years away, and that will be the first closest pass of the probe to a star.

V'ger 2 will make a close approach to another red dwarf, Ross 288, in the same 40K years, and approach Sirius at 4.3 ly in 300K years.

I am laughing at this. I am on vacation at the lake with J’s mom, my daughter, his daughter. We rented a boat for the week. We have gone out in it when no rain, and I ran in it this morning. But J’s mom won’t be down for frolicking in the rain and 2 teen girls are, well 2 teen girls. Maybe they will change their minds when I haul out the board games. Either way, we will persevere!

Everyone knows I’ve been highly critical of our actions over the last 8 weeks or so, but we gotta define “not working”. I’m quite fine with giving them a pounding every night and seeing what happens.

I will say that I’m not sure if we have any actual strategy anymore, or are just winging it on a day by day basis.

330 I still have my Pioneer PL-L30 linear tracking turntable that I purchased waaaaaaayyyyy back in 1986. It still works, though my entire vinyl collection boxed up and stored away in my studio (except for the records that come with some of the super deluxe box sets I have, like from Rush or the latest from Schiller for example, which is how I know the turntable still works.)

I pretty much switched over to CDs almost at the same time as I purchased that turntable, though, as I quickly discovered their superiority to vinyl in every way through the research I had to do when I had to start selling them to the customers coming into my Sound Warehouse location. No, the larger artwork does not count in my view, because it has always been about the sound for me (though I am always disappointed in bare bones packaging.) I still chuckle at the "audiophiles", hipster douchebags and sheeple who think that vinyl/analog is superior. I look at them the same way I look at the Flat Earthers, Grassy Knollers, Truthers, etc....

Play poker much? We're at the casino. Trump owns the casino the casino always wins. We sit at the table, a hand is played (they shoot missiles -their chips), we negate most of their missiles and blow the shit out of their stuff, we win the hand. Over and over we are pulling their chips off the table.

We're sitting at the table pulling their chips every hand.
Our stack of Iranian chips is getting bigger and bigger - their loss.
Meanwhile, our high dollar chips, are sitting there untouched.

So, we sit there taking chips every hand while they lose chips every hand. It's a winning game for the house. When the time comes he will play the big chips and they will have nothing.

340 I just read more about our current incursions into Iran. Apparently we struck "missile and drone sites, naval assets, ammunition storage facilities, communication networks, and surveillance locations"

How did they still have missile sites and ammunition storage facilities, etc? I really would have thought we'd have knocked those out a fee months ago. Better late than never though.

341 I much prefer vinyl. It took me a couple of years to get used to the brittle sound of CDs. I don't like digitized music, or synthesized music. Everything that's released now has been run through some sort of pitch correction or auto tune and it's almost unbearable for me to listen to. I don't have technically good ears for music in the traditional sense, but they're very sensitive to something. One thing Berserker made me aware of is the difference between tube amps and whatever they started using in the 80s (?). After that, all the instruments sounded like they'd been replaced with those organs they used to sell in the malls. I can't really explain it more than that. It sounds fake and flat. Not flat as opposed to sharp, but flat as in mo dimension or warmth.

What is it you think would be accomplished in 3 days?

That isn't nearly enough time to exterminate the IRGC, and they're clearly going to keep firing missiles as long as any of them are around to do so.
