The Classical Saturday Morning Coffee Break & Prayer Revival

Screenshot 2026-07-10 at 8.26.20 PM.png

Good morning boys and girls and everything in between. Hopefully everyone here today still has all of their digits, eyes, ears and hair after the Big Birthday Bash Fireworks.

Before we enter the Prayer Revival just a few housekeeping matters to go over. (Rulz for those of you in Spokane)

1) This is an open thread. Feel free to lurk, opine and/or bloviate.
2) Be kind, be nice.
3) At this point in time, what is the rule about running with sharp objects?
4) Have a great weekend!

AOSHQ Weekly Prayer List

Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update.

Prayer Requests:

4/3 – Teresa in Fort Worth posted an update. Her chemo seems to be holding things steady for now. Unfortunately, as she is receiving a steroid, she has gained about 25 pounds. Her blood sugar has also jumped up about 40 points (which only happens when she is on steroids).
6/1 Update – Teresa had a CT scan and has seen the surgeon. Everything looks good/stable. There are no new tumors and the ones that are there have pretty much stayed the same or shrunk. No metastises seen. Additional good news is that she can stay on the current medication, and just alternate it with other meds. She continues to respond extremely well to the protocols. She sends her gratitude for each and every prayer.
6/19 – Teresa in Fort Worth sent an update. Her cancer marker numbers continue to go down; hopefully that means everything is working! In other news, she has started working on another stocking, this time for her grandson, who will be implanted soon via IVF. Prayers for a successful procedure and pregnancy would be greatly appreciated!

5/20 – D gave an update on his wife Susan and her continued battle with cancer. Her cancer markers are still headed in the right direction. She is on a new antibiotic, and it is causing some side effects, but it is keeping her out of another surgery, so that is a win. Thanks again to everyone for their prayers. May 1 marked one year since they found out about the cancer, and Susan is doing so well.
6/24 Update – Everything is going well. The chemo seems to be working, but it’s very hard. The prayers help, so please keep praying for them.

5/23 – I used to have a Different Nic could use some prayers as he waits for the results of a biopsy of a mass on his prostate.
6/2 Update – I used to have a Different Nic sent in an update. He has been diagnosed with risk group 2 prostate cancer. It appears to be localized to the prostate but this will be verified via another scan. He has doctor appointments lined up for the next month or so before he starts treatment.
6/23 Update – The latest update is that he has stage 2, “unfavorable intermediate”, which he notes is an awful name, but what it means is, it is in the middle, but bad enough that they want to treat it. It’s more aggressive than previously thought. He is at the point where he has to decide on treatment options, which means choosing which set of pretty unfortunate side effects he prefers.
7/6 Update – He has gotten a second opinion, and selected the option for treatment, which should begin next week.

6/18 – buzzion asked for prayers for a friend named Christina, who has struggled with drug addiction and is in jail again. Buzzion prays that this really is rock bottom and a true wake-up call for her – even if it requires her to stay in jail.
6/29 Update – Christina’s family bonded her out of jail and she has checked into a rehab facility. Please pray that she gets the help she needs.

6/20 – bluebell gave an update on grammie Winger. Grammie had some major surgery related to her cancer in March and is pretty much housebound. She said she isn’t keeping up on news since her diagnosis; she doesn’t have the energy. She said she thinks of her grey-box friends often with fondness. Please keep praying for her. Your prayers are a source of great comfort to her.
6/27 Update – grammie winger requested bluebell to let the Horde know that she is hospitalized again, with sepsis, and cannot eat or walk. She is very tired and cannot speak for long. She is being fed by tube. They don’t know how long she will be hospitalized or where she will go after (rehab, hospice, etc.). Bluebell has a mailing address for grammie, so please contact bluebell to send a card or note to grammie winger. Please pray for her, that her suffering will be eased, and pray for her family, who are suffering along with her.
7/4 – grammie winger posted her thanks for the sweet, sweet cards and letters. She said she treasured each and every one of the Horde reprobates. She can’t express the love she has as she sits there in the cancer hospital.

6/20 – Polliwog the ‘Ette said that prayers for Inspector would be much appreciated. Inspector is still in the hospital. They are working on getting his strength up so it’s safe for him to go home. He is more alert and focused than when he was admitted, and he has been able to eat multiple full meals, which is an improvement and will help him continue to improve.

6/21 – B posted a request for prayers. He said that, due to his own shortcomings, and a moment of madness 6 years ago, B has been estranged from his two sons (age 41 and 36). He has tried to reach out and apologize to them over the past 6 years, to no avail. B asked the Horde to pray for their hearts to open, to allow him to properly apologize, and try to be the father he should have been. The boys are losing their mother to early-onset Alzheimers, and B needs them to know that he’s a better person today than he was then, and he can be counted on.

6/27 – Tom Servo posted prayers of thanks to God that his 38 year-old daughter, who was released from a psych hospital this week after a particularly bad breakdown. She has 2 children, which she does not have custody of, but she still sees, and they are wonderful. She has received more professional care, and it appears to have helped quite a bit. She has new medication and a new commitment to living in a way that will keep her from making a return trip to the hospital.

6/27 – George V sent his thanks to the Horde for their prayers. We had prayed for his wife in May, when she had a heart valve replacement, and there were indications of problems in her lymph nodes. She received the biopsy results, and both came back negative for cancer! Thank God for his goodness!

6/27 – “A” sent thanks for the prayers for a family friend, who is at home recovering with the family and doing much better. “A” has an additional request for long-time friends (J and S) who are in the midst of intense family problems and requesting healing, peace, repentance, and restoration in the family.

7/2 – Publius asked for prayers for his 96 year old mother, who had emergency surgery when a massive hematoma on her leg ruptured, and they couldn’t stop the bleeding due to her being on blood thinners. Things were not looking good, but Publius posted later she received blood thinner reverser medication, and was fully conscious and alert after surgery.

7/3 – San Franpsycho posted that Mrs. F. was admitted to the hospital from the ER visit, and asks for prayers for a complete and immediate recovery for her. She was conscious enough to phone him late last night, and it was a great relief that she was awake even for a short period. She continues with IV fluids and atb. Further steps and hopefully improvement await the results of lab tests. The caring concern shown by so many morons has been a great relief. Thank you.
7/5 Update – Mrs. F. remains hospitalized while being treated for salmonella poisoning. She has had some improvement, but is on Day 5 of not being able to keep down any nourishment.

7/4 – Duke Lowell humbly asked for prayers for the nurses who will have to put up with him, when he goes in for (hopefully the last) surgery related to the events of last September.

7/4 – AH Lloyd requested prayers for his aunt, who was in a shattering collision on 6/29. She was hit by a semi at full speed through an intersection. She lost a lot of blood, but is out of ICU now.

7/4 – Random Dave posted the good news that the past week of interviews went very well. He also had a prayer request for his grand-niece, who has not been growing properly. She’s about 5 or 6. The growth plates are fine but has not grown in over a year. They have found an intestinal or bowel blockage and may need surgery.

7/4 – Dr. No sent his thanks for the prayer list and the Horde’s prayers that helped his daughter in her recoveries from (a) cancer and (b) knee replacement surgery. She’s doing fine now.

7/7 – Weak Geek asked for prayers for the survivors of RG and KG, a couple in their 90s who were pillars of their church for decades. They were knifed to death on 7/3 by their grandson. The entire congregation is stunned. Please pray for them too, and the pastor, trying to help deal with the tragedy.

7/7- Mis Hum is asking for prayers for Some Rat. He has some serious health issues at this time.

For submission guidelines and other relevant info, please contact Annie's Stew, who is managing the prayer list. You can contact her at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. If you see a prayer request posted in a thread comment, feel free to copy and paste it and e-mail it to Annie's Stew. She tries to keep up with the requests in the threads, but she's not here all of the time, so she may not see it unless you e-mail it to her. Please note: Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks or so unless we receive an update.

My coffee is important but it's not a sacramental rite. I use very ordinary Kirkland dark roast pods from Costco ($40 for 120). Coffee is good (dark roast) or bad ("breakfast blend", restaurant flavored water, boiled-to-asphalt).

You’ve made a strong case that she caught it in the hospital, as a result of the other procedure. It’s easy to forget that in spite of all precautions, hospitals are concentrated incubators for bacteriological disease. (No one likes thinking about that)

Only lost (so far) a relatively small amount of spoiled bacon and chuck roasts that had not kept frozen in the old freezer as its temps and timer clock failed progressively.

The new fridge is running rock-steady and at ideal temps in both freezer and fridge. I am thankful.

62 Looong time lurker, Patrick, here.
I should have posted my prayer request last year when my stage-4 prostate cancer was first diagnosed, but I was too busy freaking out.
A year and 9 rounds of chemo later, I’m still on hormone therapy, and my PSA spiked recently. Back up to 92. Supposed to be starting a drug trial soon. Still, I know from experience that prayer helps - a lot. And that there is no upper limit.
So if anyone could include me in theirs, I would greatly appreciate it.
Cheers,
Patrick

Speaking of luxury, Terre Haute has 72 F. right now at 8:30 am, with rain expected and a high today of 78. Gawd that sounds wonderful!

68 -
In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.

And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.
And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.
And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night.
And the evening and the morning were the first day.

80 More winning as the Trump administration forced a better deal for the U.S. regarding the new Gordie Howe International Bridge connecting Detroit and Windsor. The bridge was scheduled to open in mid-June, but Trump nixed that pending review of the original terms.

-- U.S. now gets up to half of the toll revenue beginning on day one (Canada was to receive all of the toll revenue until the money it fronted for the project, $4.7B, was recouped)

-- No imported Chinese EVs will be allowed entry into the U.S. via the bridge

The bridge in now scheduled to open July 27.

Next week is going to be a doozy. It's the Houston World Series of Dog Shows in town, with shows starting Wednesday. Luckily, we have somewhat simpler logistics, since The Big Dummy will be set up with his handler instead of us having a grooming spot of our own. The handler has an exercise pen, so we don't have to set one up.

And I'll be serving as a ring steward all day every day (even getting paid for it!), so I can avoid all the drama around getting TBD into the ring.

84 You're in a desert, walking along in the sand, when all of a sudden you look down and see Mitch McConnell. He's crawling toward you...You reach down and you flip Mitch over on his back. Mitch lays on his back, his belly baking in the hot sun, beating his legs trying to turn himself over, but he can't. Not without your help. But you're not helping.

89 Vmom,
We've become a Nissan family and they're great vehicles. I drive a Pathfinder and my wife has the Rogue. Both are just great for us. My MIL drives the Murano. They've been the best cars we've owned. I would definitely recommend the Rogue as it's got plenty of space and gets great gas mileage.

94 My daughter's labadoodle is on our minds today. The poor thing has a bloated abdomen and is getting an ultrasound and possibly surgery today. A perforated bowel or cancer are suspected.

95 The Horde knows about my snake in the ductwork incident, but that was only part of the saga around my house in the last 6 months or so. Lots of $ has been spent, but for a long time it seemed like I was actually making things worse. As of this moment, my crawl space is all done except the wiring and water heater (both of which I've been told are good for now). I'm still waiting to see if the latest tweaks will help with the flooding in heavy or prolonged rains. I would really like to never get in there with a shop vac again.

I've had massive anxiety trying to make big expensive decisions alone when I have no idea what the hell I'm doing.

I recently read Psalm 112 which includes this verse:

"He is not afraid of bad news;
his heart is firm, trusting in the Lord." (112:7)

This doesn't need to go on the list, but I'd appreciate a Horde prayer that I could learn to trust the Lord and not be afraid of the next thing to go wrong in the house.

Also for a few months without any more major expenses so I can begin to recover. I've picked up a side gig to help pay for it all, so I may not have to sell a kidney or any firearms.
