72 Not what I expect from a Géricault painting which is usually dramatic but realistic and detailed. This is a simpler, more stylized approach. The 'heroic' part refers, I think, to the ancient ruins in the background, denoting a richer, more advanced past. The struggling fishermen seem diminished both in size compared to the landscape and in a more primitive existence. This style along with a few of his other paintings reminds me of Rockwell Kent illustrations.
