37 Evening and morning for the late (and holiday) toilers and early risers! America is 250!!! Long may she reign!

(Pixy is right. America does look better than she did at 240.) (And the redhead grilling girl in the cartoon atop last night's ONT is hot.)

We watched Ian McKellen in Mr. Holmes last night. Not a fast-paced film, but despite depicting Sherlock at 93 (in 1947 England) as having recurrent dementia symptoms -- part of the plot; the movie is based on a novel -- it's pretty respectful to the original material. And there are even two deductive surprises delivered neatly by Mr. Holmes.

39 We gave the cats calming treats last night, in preparation for any fireworks outside. There were very few. Maybe the usual suspects are waiting for tonight.

The calming (just some melatonin) took a while to kick in, but then Stirling climbed into my lap -- despite Miss Linda having her feet already in said lap -- to work my arm and doze for a while. Third time that day, yet. And Dagny climbed to the back of the sofa and slept behind my head all during the movie.

That said, some corn or bran flakes in milk is pretty tasty, and the liquid helps to rehydrate you after a night's sleep.

92 The thing I love most about America is freedom of speech. We're now maybe the only nation on the planet that has it, since the other Western nations have fled from it.

Freedom of speech is inseparable from freedom of thought itself. It's so precious, and so easily lost.
