I was going to take a walk but I got some more puttering to do before I go to bed. Go back to work tonight at 6pm and work right through the 4th. Hoping for a slow week as I'm basically working alone. A couple of new guys but they lack access to be truly useful. Oh well. It's the Fourth of July, all the important fussy bureaucrats are off. Should be quiet.

Posted by: Biden's Dog sniffs a whole lotta malarkey, at July 02, 2026 05:12 AM (x8PQF) If it wasn't for Washington, there wouldn't be a modern world. He basically caused the French and Indian war by his attack on a French scouting party, that resulted in the death of the French commander. He didn't know French and signed the surrender document that placed all the blame for the action on him, forcing Britain to fight to expel the French from the Ohio valley. Of course, the F & I war led to the Brit government wanting to tax the colonists for the costs - which ultimately led to Lexington and Concord. The world changed because of Washington. Almost as much sleep as planned. I got to bed a little late after Kelly's Heroes, which I hadn't seen in years, ran on Movies! last evening. Dreamed something about Vincent Price asking me for the best Mexican restaurant in Da Swamp, and me directing him to an intersection that, as far as I know, has no restaurants on it at all. "Fortunately, Sanjay mentions to Cramer that even during this grim period, Micron invested $10 billion as it possessed the vision, leading to where it is today. "
Things were so bad that Micron only had $10B to invest in... well, we're not exactly sure what, but boy howdy, that money was invested. And now Micron, SK Hynix, and Samsung are absolutely putting the boots to the memory market good and hard. Just like a cartel. Again. "It's my nature," said the scorpion. Posted by: Common Tater at July 02, 2026 *** If the truck won't move -- possibly because whatever holds the rear wheels when the parking brake is on won't disengage -- then for the moment, Skip's truck is dead. Which reminds me, I need to see about having the rear brakes replaced -- at least the pads, maybe the rotors -- this month. I've had the Buick seven of its ten years and have never had the rears done. The electric parking brake still works fine, but I'm hearing a little noise from the rear brakes when they are applied while I back up at low speed. He basically caused the French and Indian war by his attack on a French scouting party, that resulted in the death of the French commander.
The French Commanders last name was Jumonville. If you ever drive US Rt 40, you'll see a lot of monuments from that time period. Braddock's gravesite, Ft Necessity, Jumonville Glen, etc. Worth the visit and it's a lovely area. Western Pennsyltuckians call it the Laurel Highlands. Western edge of the Appalachians. There is a Christian camp up there that has a huge cross that over looks the Uniontown area. Pretty much see the whole county there (Washington). It's a great view. A few years back, our AC decided to die at 10 PM. Got on the phone with the company and asked for a tech. Two hours later, I'm back on the phone asking where he is.
"Oh, you don't have emergency service on your contract. You'll have to call when we open." I skip work and make sure I'm the first person to call. After I explain the situation, I tell the dispatcher what happened. "Wait...I'm looking at your account and you do have that in your service contract. What number did you call?" After I give her the number, she lets out a sigh. "Yeah; we've had problems with those people." Posted by: NR Pax at July 02, 2026 05:42 AM (RjOoY) 49

The "Essence Festival" is happening in town this weekend. Leave it to Barack's most reliable voters to hold a festival of any kind in this hellbucket at the very hottest part of the year. Or just as the hottest part begins, anyway.
Note to self: Avoid all IHOPs and Waffle Houses, esp. in early morning or late night, from now until 7/7. (That's no hardship, though. I avoid IHOP anyway because of price$$$, and Waffle House in town here because I'm allergic to small objects winding up in my body, like bullets.) I still can’t get used to Florida heat and humidity… and until recently I lived in north Texas so it’s not like I’m unfamiliar with heat. But this tropical mugginess is unbelievable… every morning when I walk out of our house (which is air conditioned to the nines, thank God, and yes we’re spewing enough carbon to make AOC very nervous), my glasses fog up almost immediately. This is a new phenomenon for me and it indicates (of course!) extreme amounts of moisture in the air. Makes my jogging life miserable. Okay I’ll turn off the whining now…

-------- The judiciary is on their side. Justice hasn't been blind in decades. It's the branch that enforces the shit the left decides to implement. IMO, it's a bigger issue than these Democratic Socialists. Posted by: Martini Farmer at July 02, 2026 07:15 AM (jehhT) 115

-- The EO is about non-delivery of mail-in ballots to blue states who refuse to adhere to rules pertaining clean, legitimate voter rolls, I believe. Back during the 1982 World's fair in Knoxville, a city with no shortage of humidity, the nightly fireworks would cause a sudden, brief but very heavy downpour. This, we were told, was why our air quality was improved at that time.

While they claim not to be a 'Sanctuary City' (as they say that term has not been well defined, legally) you can tell they're not in favour of Immigration enforcement. Posted by: OrangeEnt at July 02, 2026 * Yes. Two chapters and an epilogue to go. Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing (aka Eloquent Depression) at July 02, 2026 *** My experience, MP4 and OE -- and I hope yours is the same -- is that the climactic chapters of a novel pull you along like a fast-moving river. You can't wait to get back to the keyboard. Before you know it you're typing "The End" and sitting there saying aloud, "It's done. I can't believe it. It's DONE!" Especially this is true with a mystery novel, when you are about to pull back the curtain and reveal a killer's identity! Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at July 02, 2026 07:31 AM (wzUl9) 132
I have a buddy who asked me to read a draft novel for him.
Turns out he didn't want feedback, he wanted me to write an early review on Amazon. Since then, he has re-issued the book three times, each time, emailing me about changes in the plot, characters, names, chapters, etc. So I am no longer reading it. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at July 02, 2026 07:31 AM (wzUl9) I actually spend time thinking it out before I write. I have dialog in my head before I start typing. This one that's open on the computer now has been start and stop. Wrote a couple hundred words yesterday, then deleted them. Didn't like what I wrote, so have been sitting here thinking and writing while reading the TR. Posted by: OrangeEnt at July 02, 2026 07:33 AM (1Ff7Z) 135

Well not entirely true, I guess Charlie Sheen is to blame for getting fired… but my word was that show bad with Kutcher; I could never get through even one episode with him Posted by: LinusVanPelt at July 02, 2026 *** Kutcher was a pretty good "physical" comedy actor, like Michael Richards, when he started on That '70s Show. Two and a Half Men didn't seem to give him the same latitude. I'll admit that I didn't watch much of the show after Charlie left. There was a neat gag in the first AK episode, where various people are touring the beach house thinking they might buy it. One couple, though never named, was clearly Dharma and Greg, played by the original actors from Chuck Lorre's earlier series.
