Democrat Socialists Take Another Scalp As a Gen Z Ethiopian Immigrant Defeats a 15-Term Congresswoman

I'm glad, at least, to see Democrats suffering from their own DEI agenda themselves for once.

They tend to legally and corporate-ishly insulate themselves from DEI replacement, usually.

Political newcomer and democratic socialist Melat Kiros is poised to become the first Gen Z woman elected to Congress after defeating 15-term incumbent Democrat Diana DeGette in a primary race for Colorado's 1st Congressional District, according to a race call by the Associated Press.
The win in the solidly blue district that makes up most of Denver means that Kiros, a 29-year-old Ph.D. student and lawyer, is all but likely headed to Washington, D.C., next year. She would replace DeGette, 68, who has held office since 1997, the same year Kiros was born.

It's an upset that comes amid a broader intraparty fight taking place among Democrats as prominent incumbents face pressure to pass the baton to a slate of more left-leaning and younger candidates pledging to reject longtime political norms and practices.
Kiros, an Ethiopian immigrant, is part of that movement, backing economic populist policies including universal healthcare and childcare, and more politically polarizing issues like abolishing Immigration and Customs Enforcement and ending U.S. military aid to Israel.

By the way: She got here, she says, due to the Visa "Diversity" Lottery championed by Ted Kennedy.

I don't think there are even that many in america who would really, truly stand in the streets and get blood on their hands for the DSA. Spain then and America now aren't really comparable. We have far, far more wealth and comfort overall. We have a far, far less engaged populace overall (most people really don't follow this shit, and whatever opinions they might have are an inch deep). And what precious little street violence they could muster up to now was all rented with USAID money.

You won't see much more than a little bit of mob violence in a few major cities for a few months, is my bet. It'll get ugly, but not apocalyptic. Merely annoying, at worst. At best, horribly discrediting to the garbage baby soyjack pseudo-marxists. They've never faced opposition, their entire lives.

I don't think that is the case. Even if the Civil War involved nukes, the problem for the left is that they are concentrated in the cities and that makes them a lot more vulnerable to nukes than rural more conservative targets. A dispersed population is always in better shape than a concentrated one when nukes start flying around.

The problem for the left is they are primarily foreign looters with shallow roots unlikely to persuade others to join and their college aged followers are not the horny handed toilers that were the core of the Socialist/Communist movement in times gone by.

Same reason the Red Guard was easily put down by the Chicom Army when it became necessary to stamp on them. And why the Lincoln brigades, etc. were not particularly successful in Spain. Fighting bravely is not the same as fighting well and trained troops are far more likely to prevail under such circumstances as street fights (also see the Reds versus the Not Sees during the waning days of Weimar). The Not Sees had the battle tested former troops not the Reds.

Not really sure that there would be much difference as the clock ticks down on this Congress. Any governor's appointee would only serve for a few months before a special election anyway. KY legislature changed the law in 2024 after ruminations that forcing a Dem to pick a GOP list would be unconstitutional under the KY law. The new law provides that a special election be held by 49 days after the vacancy exists.

I wasn't a fan of WW, but it was kinda different for the time, and Superhero movies were still (inexplicably) very popular. And Gal Gadot was hot and looked like WW.

SG is just something that nobody wanted or asked for, at a time when most superhero movies are underperforming or tanking entirely. Hell, even the superman reboot probably lost money.

I'm not sure that even normal women would like to watch a movie where the hero staggers along being drunk and bitter through the bulk of the show. Even shows like Wonder Woman had the heroine have some ideals, there was a love interest and so on that could hold their interest.
