Posted by: Skip at July 02, 2026 09:32 AM >>>I know y'all want to know - https://tinyurl.com/47t652d6 A Prince-Elector of the Holy Roman Empire (Latin: Sacri Romani Imperii Princeps Elector; German: Kurfürst [ˈkuːɐ̯ˌfʏʁst] pl. Kurfürsten [ˈkuːɐ̯ˌfʏʁstn̩], from the Middle High German kure "choice" and the German Fürst "prince") was a member of the Electoral College of the Holy Roman Empire, which elected the Holy Roman Emperor, initially according to formally unregulated customs, and since 1356 in accordance with provisions of the Golden Bull. The office was abolished in 1806, upon the Dissolution of the Holy Roman Empire. From the 13th century onwards, a small group of prince-electors gained the privilege of electing the King of the Romans. The king would then later be crowned Emperor by the pope. Charles V (elected in 1519) was the last emperor to be crowned (1530); his successors assumed the title "Elected Emperor of the Romans" (German: erwählter Römischer Kaiser; Latin: electus Romanorum imperator) upon their coronation as kings. The Met-
The Stag Hunt painting by Lucas Cranach the Elder is historically significant as it depicts a hunting scene involving the Elector Friedrich the Wise of Saxony, reflecting the cultural and social practices of the time, particularly the importance of hunting among the nobility. Additionally, it serves as a visual memento of an actual hunt that took place in 1497, showcasing Cranach's role as a court painter and his connection to prominent historical figures Posted by: redridinghood at July 02, 2026 09:52 AM (NpAcC) 84

--- Here's something I learned recently, medieval livestock was much smaller than what we have today. So, butchering the cow, which you relied upon for milk and to plow, wasn't just a huge loss, you got quite a bit less meat than a modern cow. Like selling the family's only car for a week's worth of groceries. And all the other livestock was smaller. Which is why so much of their diet was (involuntarily) vegan. And why the killing of the king's deer by serfs was so grave a crime: Meat was hard to come by for everyone. Posted by: People's Hippo Voice at July 02, 2026 09:59 AM (3cUTc) 110

I was reading more on Craig Robertson and the news stories in the FNM from the time he was shot. This is the guy that made a vague threat about Biden and so the Junta sent an assault team to kill him.
The FNM stories all follow the same pattern: The government monitored him for months because he said bad things. He made specific threats He had a gun Therefore he deserved the assault squad showing up at his house and it was his own fault that he got shot because he didn't immediately surrender. And looking at 2026 this is surreal. If Trump adopted this standard hundreds, perhaps thousands, of lefties would be also getting assault squads at their door with many of them also getting shot. Meanwhile on lefty forums I see the argument that a a few decades in jail for trying to assassinate a federal agent is fascism. Posted by: 18-1 at July 02, 2026 10:01 AM (sKqQm) 120

Frederick III (17 January 1463 – 5 May 1525), also known as Frederick the Wise was Prince-elector of Saxony from 1486 to 1525, who is mostly remembered for the protection given to his subject Martin Luther, the seminal figure of the Protestant Reformation. He was the son of Ernest, Elector of Saxony, and Elisabeth, daughter of Albert III, Duke of Bavaria.

Quite a busy painting. I like the green shrubbery though. I don't know if this is by Cranach the Elder or the younger Cranach . I think the elder has a nice painting of Christ and the Samaritan Woman by the well, and I generally prefer the way the younger one paints people, including one lovely one of a woman with red hair and an apple tree (? )by her head. Can't look it up now, though because I'm on my way out.

Stag Hunt of Elector Frederick the Wise
Lucas der Ältere Cranach The Stag Hunt of Elector Frederick the Wise is a celebrated 1529 painting by Lucas Cranach the Elder. The expansive bird's-eye view depicts a lavish courtly hunting excursion featuring the Elector, Emperor Maximilian I, and Elector Johann the Steadfast in a detailed woodland and river landscape. The iconic painting—housed at the Kunsthistorisches Museum in Vienna—was likely commissioned by Johann the Steadfast as a visual memorial. It commemorates a historic 1497 gathering and hunt where the Saxon princes were guests at Emperor Maximilian's court in Innsbruck. The artwork masterfully juxtaposes the festive, aristocratic atmosphere of a successful outing with the natural pathos and brutality of the hunt. --- 32 years later, when Johann the Steadfast was well on the road to not so. However, Johann/John was also notable for organizing the Lutheran Church in Saxony at both governmental and administrative levels. --- Very interesting but I'd pass hanging as it's a bit too much, like Richard Scary kids' puzzles. The Great Potato Chip Heist of 1967: That summer my mother decided we kids were eating too much junk food. Rather than just not buy it, as she loved a nosh or two herself, she put a padlock on the kitchen cabinet with the goodies.
I, fresh off the first season of Mission: Impossible, took this as a challenge. At first I removed the drawer above and could reach down in. She nailed a board to the end of the drawer to prevent this. Further inspection revealed that the cabinet doors had enough play that I could unscrew the hasp itself and open the cabinet at will, then reinstall the screws before we went to bed. Mom could not figure out why the locked-up snacks were disappearing. At last she threw up her hands. "Go ahead; you'll lose the weight when you go back to school!" 168. Woo hoo! Top cities with illegal aliens:
Posted by: LASue You gotta be kidding me. NE and SW Philadelphia are swamped, and it's bleeding quickly to the ring counties. Southwest Philly is basically African culture; the NE is Ukrainian and a mix of many others. (It's especially obviously in the NE Philly public schools bursting at the seams like no other area, while others are practically empty or rapidly losing school age population.) My county has been the preferred living site by Liberian warlords. No kidding. AI Overview: These warlords weaponized the system by hiding among the tens of thousands of innocent Liberian refugees who legitimately fled the civil wars and legally settled in Southwest Philadelphia and Delaware County. It explains exactly why local trust in the immigration system fractured. While the vast majority of the community arrived through legitimate federal refugee programs, the reality that top-tier war criminals managed to slip through the cracks, obtain legal status under false pretenses, and blend into the Philly suburbs for decades is a stark reminder of the system's vulnerabilities. That and Philadelphia International Airport. Posted by: L - No nic, another fine day at July 02, 2026 10:54 AM (NFX2v) 262
