I'm hoping I can get a crow to do this. By the way, there haven't been a lot of crow updates because the crows have been scarce lately. I don't know why. I've been putting out food. I put out a lot of food today when a single crow came by, but she flew away. But a couple hours later all the food was gone (cheese and ham), so I assume they got it. Almost petting a dog. Does this tiger make you horny? Puffins have a pretty good bead on things. Kittens have a guardian angel.

Willowed, but a word of warning about Darryl Cooper...
I didn't see Cooper's interview with Carlson, and I won't be seeing it. A while back, I *tried* listening to his series on Jonestown, because the topic is very interesting to me... It was one of the stupider "histories" of anything I've heard, and somehow also stultifyingly boring, which is tough to pull off when discussing the Peoples Temple. Darryl Cooper has a knack for weaving in a LOT of content about Darryl Cooper in the weirdest, most hamhanded ways. The history of Jonestown is about Jim Jones and San Francisco, and syncretic Christianity, and cult brainwashing, and race, and Leftist politics, but mostly about Darryl Cooper, you see? I made it through maybe about 4 episodes and gave the fuck up. Posted by: Yudhishthira's Dice at June 22, 2026 07:51 PM (BI5O2) 30

Pennsylvania has the lightning bug as its state insect.
To build a lightening bug habitat, you need to mimic their natural environment: moist, dark, undisturbed, and pesticide-free. I used to walk my kids down to a large open field, adjacent to a wood and creek, summer evenings to see the lightening bugs. It was almost magical it was so pretty. Oh my, there's such a difference in bear meat. I was lucky enough to participate in a wild meat dinner with fall bear meat. The richest, most luxurious taste on the planet. 100 Pennsylvania has the lightning bug as its state insect.
"It has long been axiomatic among historians that when opposing forces come into conflict ... the side being led by the superior intellect will generally prevail. That is why Julius Caesar defeated Pompey, why George Washington defeated Mad King George, Abraham Lincoln bested Jefferson Davis, FDR and Churchill overcame Hitler, JFK faced down Khrushchev, and Ho Chi Minh vanquished Richard Nixon. That is why Julius Caesar defeated Pompey, why George Washington defeated Mad King George, Abraham Lincoln bested Jefferson Davis, FDR and Churchill overcame Hitler, JFK faced down Khrushchev, and Ho Chi Minh vanquished Richard Nixon.
------ Hang tight. In terms of intellect, Lincoln vs. Davis is debatable, though he wasn't facing Davis. He was a political leader facing generals in a war, and largely left that part to his generals. He had his own truly horrible political problems to contend with. FDR was a facile, totally unremarkable intellect facing off against a more intelligent madman. Churchill was smarter by an order of magnitude than Roosevelt, though. JFK and Khrushchev, I'll call a wash - but Khrushchev was certainly shrewder than him. Ho Chi Minh was on his way to the Reaper by the time of Nixon's election, and in his cold embrace within a year, leaving him to face off against Vo Nguyen Giap, and neither of those two were dummies. Ben Had - Gramma would turn the fish pieces or chicken cutlets she was deep frying over with her fingers.
She had burned them so often they didn't even feel anymore. She was the head lunch lady at my high school along with my Aunt Jeannie. They dreamed up, and served, 'Turkey Balls' one fall. As you might imagine it caused quite a stir. We talked her into renaming them 'Turkey Croquettes'. Good times, good times. Posted by: Tonypete at June 22, 2026 09:11 PM (ItpVy) 191
Us northern Wops were raised on polenta and risotto.
Posted by: Ben Had I don't know why, but this triggered a memory of Gramma baking her bread in 2 or 3 liter olive oil tins that had one side cut out of them. It's funny the things you remember. Posted by: Tonypete at June 22, 2026 09:02 PM (ItpVy) My grandmother could make bread but I never saw her do it. Her friend had literally started a bread business a few doors down and had brick ovens in her yard, and eventually had the front of the house converted to a store front. She only lived a few houses away and my grandmother would go and help her, and would make the bread in the brick oven and just brought it home. I guess the choice was easy, make it at home in a gas oven, or go a few doors down to the brick ovens. The brick oven wins. 168 How was USAID created ...
Posted by: Sierra Foxtrot Research & reading on your free time is suggested, but - . President John F. Kennedy established the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) on November 3, 1961, by signing the Foreign Assistance Act and issuing Executive Order 10973. The creation of the agency consolidated several disparate foreign aid efforts under one unified organization. It was explicitly created to counter Soviet and Communist influence in developing nations by using economic soft power to promote growth and democracy. The order merged predecessor entities—including the International Cooperation Administration, the Development Loan Fund, and the Food for Peace Program—to increase administrative efficiency and reduce bureaucracy. USAID was formally codified as an independent federal establishment reporting to the Secretary of State under the Foreign Affairs Reform and Restructuring Act. In 2025, the administration substantially restructured foreign assistance, resulting in the cancellation of many USAID programs and the shifting of remaining functions to the US State Department. Posted by: polynikes That is, actually, not entirely true. I know of two stories where people survived falls from multiple thousand feet without chutes. One was WW2 and one was over the Amazon. Of course, they had some serious injuries. My first time skydiving I sprained my ankle when landing because I flared at about 30'. I was on crutches for a couple of weeks (college) and I loved answering "what happened?" Posted by: Dark Lixtiquatal at June 22, 2026 09:59 PM (DZ9Lv) 274

Funny. Cheese and ham are common items for my hobo hunting bait station. That, or Mad Dog 20/20, Thunderbird, or a dish of Val-u-Rite vodka. Posted by: Admiral Ackbar at June 22, 2026 09:59 PM (ycI94) 275
