By the way, there haven't been a lot of crow updates because the crows have been scarce lately. I don't know why. I've been putting out food. I put out a lot of food today when a single crow came by, but she flew away. But a couple hours later all the food was gone (cheese and ham), so I assume they got it.

In fact, we've seen a large variety of marsh birds today. Ibis, ducks, egrets and herons all enjoying the crawdads and frogs emerging after the rain.

I didn't see Cooper's interview with Carlson, and I won't be seeing it.

A while back, I *tried* listening to his series on Jonestown, because the topic is very interesting to me... It was one of the stupider "histories" of anything I've heard, and somehow also stultifyingly boring, which is tough to pull off when discussing the Peoples Temple.

Darryl Cooper has a knack for weaving in a LOT of content about Darryl Cooper in the weirdest, most hamhanded ways. The history of Jonestown is about Jim Jones and San Francisco, and syncretic Christianity, and cult brainwashing, and race, and Leftist politics, but mostly about Darryl Cooper, you see?

I made it through maybe about 4 episodes and gave the fuck up.

I miss lightning bugs. Kept them in jars over night. and sometimes as A-hole teens when we had a summer full of them we knocked them out of the air with wiffle ball bats.

We do not have fireflies.

The first week I was a college in St. Louis, there were fireflies. It freaked me out a bit.

We don't have noisy bugs at night either, but the sound was nearly deafening in St. Louis. Cicadas, crickets, all that crap.

And dark at night, when it's hot out.

Just... freaky.

I told DH the midwest was exotic. He thought I was crazy. He may have been correct, but it is still exotic.

I was just up in PA. My sister owns a farm. Not as many fireflies out this year, at least compared to last year. She has a large tree within view of her porch. When there are lots of fireflies, they all congregate on that tree (seem to anyway). It does look pretty magical.

Could be ziti, could be penne, or rigatoni, etc. Spaghetti was spaghetti, everything else was macaroni. To this frigging day I really don't know what pasta is which or what most of them are called.

I have to get back to work. I think I'm going to be working later at night for awhile until my big project is near done. Ralphy wants to be with me all the time. But during the day, that means carrying him up and down the stairs a lot. He's only 44 pounds or so, but it gets tiring.

I would agree on matters that are empirically true. We have centuries of evidence that 2+2=4.

My grandmother could make bread but I never saw her do it. Her friend had literally started a bread business a few doors down and had brick ovens in her yard, and eventually had the front of the house converted to a store front. She only lived a few houses away and my grandmother would go and help her, and would make the bread in the brick oven and just brought it home. I guess the choice was easy, make it at home in a gas oven, or go a few doors down to the brick ovens. The brick oven wins.

Thank you! I'll be heading up there this summer to see what its about. I think the forest must be very close to a University of Pittsburgh campus.

I used to love visiting the Kudzu Bridge area though suddenly (& after a job where I routinely climbed around pretty high work sites) I started freezing above certain heights. 🤷🏼‍♀️ (At least it didn't set in until I was about to leave the job.)

Actually it has been a thing for a long time, especially in northern cities like New York and Chicago. They were told by race hustlers that all the buildings they lived in were owned by Jews who kept the rent high and refused to repair anything, even though in most cases it was far from the truth.

That is, actually, not entirely true. I know of two stories where people survived falls from multiple thousand feet without chutes. One was WW2 and one was over the Amazon. Of course, they had some serious injuries. My first time skydiving I sprained my ankle when landing because I flared at about 30'. I was on crutches for a couple of weeks (college) and I loved answering "what happened?"
