It's that time of the week - when we turn the ONT over to our good friend Piper for a bit. Here's this week's fashion pr0n.

The Glamour Dash at Royal Ascot: Hats, Horses, Henry’s Vintage Flex… and That Viral Video

Oh the Royal Ascot, where the dress code is stricter than a Victorian nanny armed with a ruler. Ladies drifted in like elegant cupcakes wrapped in silk, lace, and hemlines that stayed politely north of scandal. Gentlemen arrived in flawless morning dress: tails, waistcoats, and top hats tilted with mathematical precision while sporting some truly fun ties.

Two of my favorite ties belonged to Mike Tindall and the Duke of Edinburgh.
Mike wore an E. Marinella pink classic silk tie in the Small Flower pattern.

The Duke of Edinburgh once again delivered in his signature “Racing Colours and Saddles on Pastel Ground” tie by Soprano, a piece he has worn every year for the last 12 years.

Among the dresses, two stood out: Princess Catherine’s rewear of a gorgeous marigold Roksanda Brigitte dress (not everyone could pull that one off) and Zara Tindall’s utterly charming bespoke Claire Mischevani Poppy Dress in Polka Dot.
Alongside the bright yellow dress, Princess Catherine wore a Jane Taylor London Pomona hat, Queen Elizabeth II’s Diamond Chandelier Earrings, and a Nigel Milne Birthright Three-Strand Pearl Bracelet. She carried an Anya Hindmarch Maud Pearl-Embellished Clutch Bag in Ivory and finished the look with Gianvito Rossi Gianvito 105 Pumps in Bisque Suede.

Zara Tindall paired her polka-dot dress with a bespoke Sally Ann Hats Ariel Hat (retail version shown), Hector Lion Cassis Collection Croissant Earrings, and a Mulberry Amberley Clutch in Black Small Classic Grain leather. Her shoes were the Emmy Rebecca Pump in Jet Black Suede.

Then Henry Cavill arrived with his… um, watch, and the internet promptly lost the ability to behave. The watch itself was spectacular: a 1926 Longines Monopusher Chronograph. But honestly, the video says it all

In the end, Royal Ascot proved once again that while the hats are huge, the horses are fast, and the royalty is royal, nothing, and I mean nothing, can compete with a 6’1 superhero in morning dress casually flexing a vintage chronograph on his wrist. 😉

Due to my own shortcomings, and a moment of madness 6 years ago, I've been estranged from my two sons (41 and 36).

I have tried my best over the past 6 years to reach out to them, to apologize, and ask their forgiveness.

All to no avail.

I would like to ask the Horde to pray for their hearts to open, to allow me to properly apologize, and and to try be the father I should have been.

This year has been especially hard not being able to be part of their lives, and ... well it just hurts.

They're losing their mother to early onset Alzheimers, and I need them to know I'm a better person today, than I was then, that I can be counted on.

Many industrial buildings have flat roofs, apartment blocks, too. They don't seem to have insurmountable leakage problems. Why is it an issue with houses?

Some poor bastid & his wife bought Marilyn Monroe's home in L.A. where she died. They were like the 18th owners since MM died in '62. the house had had undergone multiple re-designs.

Nonetheless, the L.A. city council, famed in song & story, recently passed a new law designating the house as a City Cultural Heritage Treasure (or some such).

So... the new, current owner can't remodel it , OR sell it, without Mayor Bass' approval! It's turned into a nightmare. Plus, the new owner is solely responsible for security, which costs a fortune, due to the sightseers.

Obviously a _well-maintained_ flat roof isn't a _guaranteed_ disaster... but you have a good manager, you have a good roof that still might leak if they don't reseal it often enough. 231 There are so many ways for a flat roof to go wrong. It starts when you start poking holes in it for plumbing vents, HVAC ducts, and sometimes even (shudder) skylights. Every time there is a change in temperature, the roof will expand and contract, pulling at the edges of the openings.

Next, the roof drains invariably get clogged with wind-borne trash. Ever see a roof drain filled with Styrofoam packing peanuts? I have.

Lastly, when snow melts, it doesn't do so evenly. Water will start running in places you would never imagine.

Like that poor little baby child in the ghetto that Elvis sang about, a flat roof will invariably come to a bad end.

We are safe after a night of tornadoes dropping everywhere around us. A small village about 9 miles north of us had two people killed in their mobile homes. Our own little city did have a tornado on the north side of town, but I haven't heard anything much about that one yet.

I hope everyone is ok as well, these storms are causing havoc as they move southeast.
