17 Anne Schedeen:

The wording was her family's choice. Bad choice.

(The Mirror) Schedeen's family revealed her death in a loving statement online, which celebrated her legacy and her hatred for American president Donald Trump. They posted a note to her Facebook page on the evening of 14 June to confirm the news.

The statement read: "It is with the heaviest of hearts that we share Annie has passed peacefully. She leaves behind an extraordinary legacy of creative energy, whip smart humour, delight in her family, adoration for little dogs, burning hatred for Trump, passion for second-hand thrifting, and love for a good story. We are bereft without her. We loved her so so much, as did all who met her."

21 I dimly recall that "Star Trekkin'" thing playing on the old Dr. Demento show in the late '70s. Never have I seen a video of it . . . but the Claymation creatures are perfect for it.

I'm up a little earlier than I planned -- no, Stirling is not to blame -- sipping my coffee and seriously contemplating taking a day off from my workout. It is 83 F. outside, and I made the mistake of looking up the heat index.

It's 93. At four a.m.

It will probably be no better tomorrow, except that we have a 60% chance of rain today; yesterday there was not a hint of rain. Maybe, maybe, the afternoon temps will not get as high today. (Gah.)

1) your hatred of one single politician for a couple years is so lurid it becomes a defining characteristic of your entire time in this earth, overshadowing everything you've ever done or accomplished

Or

"Burning hatred of Olympia Dukakis" would be worth pointing out as singular and noteworthy.... but still kind of gauche.

Imagine defining yourself or your loved ones in terms of who they hate, and then patting yourself on the back for your virtue. **That** is exactly how Nazis come in to power.

31 Well, the latest house possibility has slid away. This was a nice bungalow, 3BR/1ba, with garage and screened front porch, solar panels, and a Generac backup system. Alas, the garage would have needed a motorized door (I don't want to be opening and closing a garage door in the rain) . . . and the owners have put up a wooden fence and gate which *blocks access* by car to the garage. What . . .? I guess I see where the money went on that one. Somehow I think I can do better.

The cool thing, though, was that the house next door was a sort of New Mexico style that looked like it was constructed of adobe. Wildly out of place in the neighborhood, but I liked it. (No For Sale sign, though.)

I doubt that it is as chaotic in Iran as Russia during the Russian Civil War:

Nonetheless, the people with whom the USA are negotiating "deals" aren't the people in power in Iran. One may consider that those people are those the USA *want* to be in power in Iran and react accordingly.

But considering the neighborhood, I would probably be the only non-thug (and not in the affectionate way I call my cats "thugs") in there. An Anytime Fitness is a few minutes' drive away. But I don't want to sign up for anything until I move.

TH has a Planet Fitness, a YMCA, and an Anytime Fitness. I'll join one of them for wintertime workouts once I get settled.

71 SnazzyLabs on YouTube (mostly covers Apple) has posted the only unboxing and review I've seen of the new Trump Mobile T1 smartphone.

https://youtu.be/b1ytw85Npt8
(29m09s)

He sent in a $100 deposit last year.
He then jumps through some seriously amateur hour hoops on the web site trying to pay the rest of the cost once the phone was available. For instance; the 2FA code he needed to login to his account never came. He resorted to calling customer service to finally get his password reset and was able to login and pay.

The T1 is apparently a rebranded and slightly modified HTC phone from a few years back.

He gives a pretty straight forward review of the phone, without much overt political bias. He's impressed by some things, and disappointed by other aspects. For example; the fingerprint sensor seems to be broken, probably software related. He also does a teardown and compares it to the HTC phone he thinks it is.

The most impressive part of the phone, in his view, is the pretty decent screen, and 12GB of RAM.

I'd say this was made for 'over-29' Trump fans mostly.
Other than some kind of collectible or patriotic value, it doesn't have a lot of compelling reasons for buying one.

Maybe it's just not making enough money for advertising.
I'm guessing that everybody who wants one has bought it already.

81 72 Wikipedia doesn't have anything at all on the politics of Randall Munroe (the cartoonist/creator of xkcd).

When the CEO of Mozilla was driven out of his own company because he supported traditional marriage, Munroe made an XKCD strip about being a bigot and being shown the door. His politics may not be on his sleeve but they seem obvious to me.

82 The "toast" I spoke of is brown bread with peanut butter and honey. Since I usually spice my eggs and bacon, the honey provides a good and soothing followup.

Now I need to feed the furry thugs. I'll finish my pipe and get cleaned up; email and house browsing for a bit; then a trip to Walmart and Aldi. My phone needs refilling. I hope they have the Tracfone card. If not I'll have to go to Target, or refill (more $) on the website.

No problem. I'm willing to be proven wrong and I still enjoy most of his strips. Especially then one about college websites.

Jesus Christ, it's shit like that what make my wife (who is more MAGA than I am) not like Trump.

OTOH, if we need Jesus Christ to be our chief executive to have a functioning republic, we would be cruising to failure.

I don't like that most of our Congress vermin are lawyers. I don't like that most of the house of representatives "represent" hundreds of thousands of humans (if not more) in each district. I don't like that, in our supposed republic, our states have no representation at the federal level. (Yeah, I think the 17th amendment was the wrong solution; MY 17th amendment would force each state to have the state government choose their senators since that was their fucking purpose.).

93 Broken Lance, a 1950s color Western, is on Movies! with Spencer Tracy and Robert Wagner, Hugh O'Brian, and E.G. Marshall. Marshall never got the respect he deserved, except when he did that The Defenders legal series about sixty years ago.

Trivia: The pilot for The Defenders, shown on one of the anthology shows of those days, featured Ralph Bellamy as the lawyer father, William Shatner as the lawyer son . . . and Steve McQueen as the kid they were defending in court. They should have kept Bill as the son; much better than Robert Reed. On the other hand, he would have garnered all the attention from Marshall when he was on screen.

The constellation of pathologies demonstrated by many members of this family are so concerning.

They also bring to mind the Kennedys.

95 Speaking of Spencer Tracy, we watched the famous 1932 20,000 Years in Sing Sing last night. A fine little film all around, with a solid ending. And Bette Davis played Tracy's girlfriend!
