Mars2026.jpg

It is immensely amusing to watch the angry, jealous, envious jabberers criticize Elon Musk for having the temerity to create a vibrant and successful space exploration company that he mostly funds with good old cash flow from another vibrant, successful business...StarLink! Who knew that there was a demand for fast and stable internet services in the ex-urbs and rural America? And it won't break the bank either!

Deep in their cold hearts and their tiny little brains they know that they could never have created something like SpaceX or StarlInk or Tesla, and instead of being impressed, they get angry and want to tear him down. His answer to them, as was his answer when they tried to blackmail him into changing Twitter/X is clear.

Another thing that is interesting is that even after the ridiculous EV subsidies have been canceled, his car company seems to be doing okay, unlike many of the others that are imploding. I am no fan of EVs for anything other than performance cars, but if he can make a go of it without sucking on the government teat, it has nothing to do with me. In fact: Good for him!

******

mulletFail26.jpg

That's not a mullet; that's an abomination. Not even Doof's mullet is that awful.

******

Remember this? The music is...eh, but the video is impressive, and still a bit goofy. It doesn't take itself too seriously, which is a relief!

*

Speaking of taking yourselves too seriously! I actually like the song, but this is ridiculously pompous and self-important.

*

And here is something to clear your head of that nonsense.

******

I have no explanation for that. Maybe it's an Alabama thing?

More than you ever wanted to know about the interstate highway system!

The Sound Behind the Door

A man is driving down the road and his car breaks down near a monastery. He goes to the monastery, knocks on the door, and says, "My car broke down. Do you think I could stay the night?"

The monks graciously accept him, feed him dinner, and even fix his car. As the man tries to fall asleep, he hears a strange sound. A sound unlike anything he's ever heard before. The Sirens that nearly seduced Odysseus into crashing his ship comes to his mind. He doesn't sleep that night.

He tosses and turns trying to figure out what could possibly be making such a seductive sound. The next morning, he asks the monks what the sound was, but they say, "We can't tell you. You're not a monk." Distraught, the man is forced to leave.

Years later, after never being able to forget that sound, the man goes back to the monastery and pleads for the answer again. The monks reply, "We can't tell you. You're not a monk."

The man says, "If the only way I can find out what is making that beautiful sound is to become a monk, then please, make me a monk."

The monks reply, "You must travel the earth and tell us how many blades of grass there are and the exact number of grains of sand. When you find these answers, you will have become a monk."

The man sets about his task. After years of searching he returns as a gray-haired old man and knocks on the door of the monastery. A monk answers. He is taken before a gathering of all the monks.

"In my quest to find what makes that beautiful sound, I travelled the earth and have found what you asked for: By design, the world is in a state of perpetual change. Only God knows what you ask. All a man can know is himself, and only then if he is honest and reflective and willing to strip away self deception."

The monks replied, "Congratulations. You have become a monk. We shall now show you the way to the mystery of the sacred sound." The monks lead the man to a wooden door, where the head monk says, "The sound is beyond that door." The monks give him the key, and he opens the door. Behind the wooden door is another door made of stone. The man is given the key to the stone door and he opens it, only to find a door made of ruby. And so it went that he needed keys to doors of emerald, pearl and gold.

Finally, they come to a door made of diamonds. The sound has become very clear and definite. The monks say, "This is the last key to the last door." The man is apprehensive to no end. His life's wish is behind that door! With trembling hands, he unlocks the door, turns the knob, and slowly pushes the door open. Falling to his knees, he is utterly amazed to discover the source of that haunting and seductive sound…

But, of course, I can't tell you what it is because you're not a monk.

39 Greetings Horde

Thank you CBD

A question if we have any medical types familiar with the Zepbound Kwik Pen among us tonight.

The Dr. showed us how you twist the top of the pen to '1' to administer one dose of medicine. That was the first dose. Now it's time to administer the second weekly dose. The top of the pen is fully retracted back to zero. Do we twist the top back to '1' to administer one dose or do we go past '1' to '2' for the second dose?

I plan to take the pen to the pharmacy tomorrow and ask the same question but just wonder if anyone has first hand knowledge.

Thank you in advance.

The cost per lb to LEO of the Space Shuttle was about $30K. In the fully reusable Falcon configurations, Elon's cost is $300/lb. SpaceX charges $1200-$1400 per lb or so, more for expendable configurations. That's a factor of 1/100.

That number alone shows just what Elon has accomplished.

Yes, indeed. A Crew Dragon mission to the ISS costs about $140M. The payload cost there would work out to something like $10K/lb. Still about 1/3 of the STS. I think the SLS pushes $40K/lb.

The workhorse is unmanned, especially now, putting up satellites to do all sorts of useful things, civilian and military. Elon has turned that into basically a routine, cheap thing.

One of our most quoted quotes right now is from our three-year-old daughter when she was FaceTiming my parents after the death and burial of her big brother's dog, Jake.
"What happened to Jake?" my dad asked her.
"He dead," she said.
"He is??"
"an, said Dad" she added.
"He in da mud," she finished.
My mom said she wants those words on her tombstone: She dead. She gone. She in da mud.

89 I have questions about the Ukrainian vandals. First, congrats to UK counter-intel for unmasking the seasoned Russian operative with the impenetrable alias, 23-year-old Evgeny Lyukshin, Codename: EL. Great job, guys.

Second, the op could not have been to make Keir Starmer look gay, since looking at him makes him look gay. Was it to make him look like a mean cheapskate, trifling with the affections and bank accounts of his lovers?

Third, does this mean that their Uniparty Establishment will stop demonizing the actual British right-wing, seeing them as the boogeyman behind everything, now that they know that's what the Russians want?

Fourth, if it took them this long for their intelligence service to figure it out, given that it was barely even hidden, that's a bad look. And if they figured it out sooner but kept it to themselves, how is that different from doing it themselves?

It wasn't the SF or Western, Moki. It was a noir short story. They liked it, but: "The piece has a confident noir voice, and the blackmail premise gives the story a strong period mystery hook. We also appreciated the way the plot brings together the stag-film secret, Charles Windom’s return, and the final reveal about Pansy’s motive.

That said, the story feels a bit too familiar in its private-eye setup. The atmosphere is enjoyable, but some of the character types and genre beats come across more as classic noir pastiche than something with a fresh enough edge for this issue."

So, I guess it was too on the nose. I can email it to you if you'd like to read it.

In the interstate highway system, spurs off the main interstate have a 1 in front. Like 184 going into Boise. It ends when you get downtown. Loops have 2 in front, or 4, depending on how friggin' huge the city is. Like 225 and 270 in Denver.

Bartok insisted and arranged that his remains would never be returned to Hungary until Hungary was free of communist dictatorship.

His family decided it was Ok enough by 1988.

We switched service to a fiber internet provider that halved our monthly bill. After we went through that trouble, StarLink's price dropped to compete meaningfully with our new lower bill. But it's inefficient to change providers again for a similar cost. Argh. I really wanted to try StarLink.

244 I never understood why, eons ago, neither I-225 nor I-270 were made into loop highways around Denver. Not until E-470 did people there think "Hey! A loop highway around the city would be good!" In the late 1980s.

Big cities need "Avoidways". Big loop encircling the city, with only four interchanges, N,S, E, W. Licence plate cameras: if your plate indicates that you are resident of the city or county, you are assessed a hundred-dollar fine for driving on it.

267 Further adventures with the Buick Wildcat brake job;

Well, despite what the car owner told me, none of the brake adjuster screws had been altered. His eyewitness must have been smoking something. "Well, he sure ground the Hell out of something. Wheel on my bench grinder is all fucked up." Well, that's as may be, but the 4 adjusting screw assemblies for the brakes are all in factory condition, allowing for age. None seized up. No grind marks at. all. Needing a little lube, but otherwise perfect. But the previous "mechanic" had put two leading shoes on the left brake, and two trailing shoes on the right. Doh!

Anyway, I put the front drums (finned aluminum with iron liners, a Buick thing) in my brake lathe, and took a couple of light cuts to clean them up. Then stuck them in the cabinet and blasted the outside with glass bead to make them nice and clean and pretty. Because why have finned aluminum drums unless they are pretty? There are just enough slots in the wheels that you can see the, too.

I hated that whole grunge era of music with the heat of 1000 suns. It was just sooo fucking depressing and was whiny shit. I never could put my finger on exactly what the attitude or belief system was. I was an old school metal guitar player. We practically used guitar cabinets as wall paper, the whole back line. Everything go louder than everything else. Drummers had huge drum sets. Double bass, 2 floor toms, 8 toms, cymbals out the wazoo. Bigger, badder. It was all about the thunder. It was an attitude, fucking viking. Then...this grunge thing comes around with this tiny dick syndrome. Lets use little amps, lets use small drum sets like the ones kids learn on, lets use pos guitars that people used to step over, etc. I don't know what the word is for that. I never could figure it out. It was a sign of things to come. No drive, no aspirations, just whine about shit. I don't know, I look around at these younger fucking retard leftists and somehow its connected. I just can't put my finger on it.

We've been doing the last-minute research on the ballot choices tomorrow. Some of the candidates, definitely feel like "none of the above" should be an option. The flyers these guys send out have too much brag of what they'll do but not how they'll do it, and too much sliming of their opponents.

TW Shannon for Lt Gov - first chance to vote for him since he was up against Lankford. His flyer says almost nothing about what he'll do, but from what I know, he's a good guy.

The one question on the ballot is raising the minimum wage, up to $15/hr over the next couple of years. Yow! I think they should have a place to fill in what the voter things minimium wage should be. I'd put $0.

It's connected. Godlessness and ingratitude. There was also an element that they were observing humanity rather than participating in it. What you were seeing was that they were bigger than the music. Bigger than their own creation.

Artists historically tended to create to see what they can make - like you said, aspirational. This was more like a bunch of namby pamby folk singers got ahold of the bigboy toys and wanted to wear them as a skin suit - but couldn't abide being outshined by the presence of their own creation. That's ego for you. Even envious of the thing they are making.

Would like to have them all back in our lives, but not if they're still infected with TDS, mask madness, gender confusion, and, especially, those vicious attitudes. Better not to have contact with them if it's just going to be mean-spirited. But we've missed out on our grandbabies' childhood. Just cruel, especially heart-wrenching for MiladyJo.
