I don't know what the problem was. I never woke up. A weird-looking goblin-dog was returned by a family because their own dog, a chihauhau, rejected it. But he's got a forever home now. Men rescue a kangaroo from a reservoir and the roo shakes their hands afterwards. Kind of. I think he's actually getting ready to punch them and the guy just grabs his paw so he doesn't. Band records a hardrock cover of "Dayman" from Always Sunny. Koala baby grabs on to a dog thinking it's a surrogate mom and I don't think the dog is cool with it. Rescue donkeys like being serenaded. The Soviets and Americans came together and co-developed the technology needed to divert the asteroid from destroying the Earth. In the process they laid the foundation for a One World Government that eventually leads to exploration of the Solar System. Among the peculiarities in the late twenty-first century are robots that are less capable than the machines we have now (in our world) because humans focused their efforts in making "superchimps" or "simps" instead of harnessing computational power to create AI. Evening, folken,
I'm on my own tonight. Linda is not feeling well and is resting. It was hot all day, no rain. The local utility co. came by and was outfitting all the apartments with new digital thermostats and improved flow tap/shower heads. So far so good. I happened to mention I had two cats, and one of the guys looked surprised. "I didn't smell nothin'!" Apparently I keep the place pretty clean. I think the problem with that narrative is the word "rescue". The water came up how high? To his knees? He wasn't rescued. He was captured. He would have been perfectly content to continue doing whatever he was doing until he was ready to leave. Which he would have done just fine without anyone's "help". Marie-Antoinette got her name later in life; she'd belonged to a woman who passed away, and the person who rescued her didn't know the original name and called her after the French queen. You have income tax, State and federal. Property tax on your home and land. Personal property tax in some States. Auto license and insurance. Gas tax. Cost of utilities, and need for them. Inheritance tax. It would be nice if there were some sort of comprehensive spreadsheet, into which you could plug your retirement income, and how many taxable items of personal property you own, any other important factors, and it would spit out which State would afford you the best standard of living for the least drain on your resources. We do have property tax, for real estate, which pays for schools. If your car is more than 15 years old, you don't pay for yearly or bi-yearly license fees, so that's free. No income tax. And we get the PFD, so that offsets most of the other taxes, except the property tax, which obviously exceeds it. OTOH, everything costs more, including health care. Without good insurance, you are kinda fucked on health care. Very few doctors accept Medicare, so you will need private insurance, NOT Obamacare. Any number of my friends have moved to AZ to avoid those costs. Not ideal. I grow all my own veggies, can and freeze most of it, and don't spend money on that. Mind the Gap! Might be Easterners sneaking in.
Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon It's interesting - damn few New Yorkers, PA, NJ or New England folks moving in. Loads of folks from MI, WI, MN and IL. More than a few from FL and CA too. The Califolks are refugees, not invaders, so that's nice. Posted by: Tonypete at June 15, 2026 09:26 PM (SKC9R) 194

I forgot one, Theosophy, but that is a combination of Bulwer-Lytton, Atlantis and Spiritualism.

four seasons, if you brown the roast before putting it in the crock pot it will come out better. There is the risk of non-seared meat coming out grey and that is not optimal.
I also like to clear the pan with some water, and make a light gravy with it, to put in the crock pot too. Posted by: Kindltot at June 15, 2026 09:32 PM (rbvCR) 202
I do like to play golf year round which was a factor. But now you can get a golf simulator that is almost as fun as playing the real thing. Except for putting which is half the game.

Beer. More better gooder.
Posted by: man at June 15, 2026 09:35 PM (XuXeR) It is really good, but all I have in the house is apple juice. Not ideal, and far too sweet for a nice pot roast. If you have white sweet potatoes, they go very nice into a pot roast or a stew instead of potatoes. The red ones are better used for roasting instead. Oven roasting a bottom round roast. Butter the outside, fat side up, Montreal Steak seasoning, then 10 minutes at 500 degrees, probably about 1-1/2 hours at 325. Rest a good 15 minutes, then a lovely medium rare thin sliced roast, 6 lbs, lasts about a week.
Lots of gravy. The last of the roast goes in a vat of gravy and served over mashed. Oh, my, yes. My mother could make a three pound roast last a week for a family of seven. I'm not so penurious. Posted by: tcn in AK at June 15, 2026 09:55 PM (F5Hzk) Processing 0.03, elapsed 0.0429 seconds. |
