AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List
Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo at-sign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update. Prayer Requests: 3/28 – Hrothgar asked for prayers for a dear and long time close friend and former neighbor, Daniel, who is scheduled for open heart surgery in mid-April. Prayers for his wife would be appreciated as well, as she will be carrying a heavy load for the next few months.
5/16 Update – Hrothgar sends thanks for the prayers for Dan. Thanks to his attitude and the miracles of modern heart surgery, Daniel is back home and in good spirits and mobile. He still has a lot of rehab ahead, but it sounds like a pretty good recovery to be home only 20 days after being on the table! 3/28 – Jordan61 posted that Mr. Jordan61 is back in the hospital. His sepsis has returned and gotten into where his compression fracture is, and he has vertebral osteomyelitis. The doctor is supposed to come in today and let them know the plan.
5/26 Update – Mr. Jordan61 had his last antibiotic infusion on 5/24 and his PICC line was removed on 5/26. He will have follow-up blood work in 2 weeks but for now, all looks good! 4/3 – Teresa in Fort Worth posted an update. Her chemo seems to be holding things steady for now. Unfortunately, as she is receiving a steroid, she has gained about 25 pounds. Her blood sugar has also jumped up about 40 points (which only happens when she is on steroids).
6/1 Update – Teresa had a CT scan and has seen the surgeon. Everything looks good/stable. There are no new tumors and the ones that are there have pretty much stayed the same or shrunk. No metastises seen. Additional good news is that she can stay on the current medication, and just alternate it with other meds. She continues to respond extremely well to the protocols. She sends her gratitude for each and every prayer. 4/18 – Smell the Glove could use some prayers as therapy and rehab occur after gout/sepsis.
5/2 Update – The gout has cleared and the infection in the lower back is healing.
5/18 Update – Smell the Glove may be out of rehab this week, but still would need wound care at home. Thanks for all the prayers and well wishes! 5/11 – rez986 asked if anyone had an update on Neidermeyer’s Dead Horse’s health. The last info Annie’s Stew has was from January, 2026, that he’d been given 6 months to live due to heart failure and was being treated and waiting for a transplant at Mayo.
5/16 Update – Dash my lace wings! posted that NDH is recovering well. IrishEi posted that NDH did receive a heart transplant and that she is doing well. She also posted a link to NDH’s X account, and her fundraising page.
5/23 – rez986 sent thanks for the updates on NDH. It is much appreciated. 5/15 – Toad-O requested prayers for his second ex-wife, the mother of his two children. They were divorced 25 years ago, and 3 years later, she was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and the children came to live with Toad-O. The ex-wife is now suffering from advanced Alzheimer’s, and has been living with Toad-O’s daughter and her husband. The ex-wife fell last month and and cracked 2 vertebrae, and just was taken to ER with a rapid heartbeat and low blood pressure due to dehydration. Prayers are appreciated for her and also for the daughter who has sacrificed a lot to care for her. 5/16 – Anna Puma requested prayers for the family of Dan Fordice, who was killed when the aircraft he was flying crashed. He leaves behind a wife, 3 children, and many friends. He was a Warbird flyer, a CEO, and a veteran of the 2/20th SFG. 5/16 – Tonypete asked for prayers for Jane who is dying of breast cancer, and for Cheri who is in jail (again) for drug related crimes. 5/20 – D gave an update on his wife Susan and her continued battle with cancer. Her cancer markers are still headed in the right direction. She is on a new antibiotic, and it is causing some side effects, but it is keeping her out of another surgery, so that is a win. Thanks again to everyone for their prayers. May 1 marked one year since they found out about the cancer, and Susan is doing so well. 5/20 – E gave an update. She and her family were having financial struggles a few months ago, and asked for prayers. E sends her thanks for the prayers, and wanted to let people know that things are getting better, thanks to the Horde’s prayers and their church family. They have resolved their mortgage issue and her husband has resumed his side gig making deliveries. They are also cutting monthly expenses. They would like continued prayers as they deal with the insurance company of the person who crashed into (and totaled) E’s vehicle. Insurance only offered half the replacement value, so that struggle is still going on. 5/23 – San Franpsycho sent a praise report. His prayer to become a grandad has been answered, and Girl F will have a baby in December. Girl F still plans to attend grad school, but will delay a year, which means they will depend on them for child care. This pleases San Franpsycho to the nth degree! 5/23 – Vmom deport deport deport would appreciate prayers. She has been freaking out about her eyesight. Her eye doctor says she has myopic macular degeneration. 5/23 – I used to have a Different Nic could use some prayers as he waits for the results of a biopsy of a mass on his prostate.
6/2 Update – I used to have a Different Nic sent in an update. He has been diagnosed with risk group 2 prostate cancer. It appears to be localized to the prostate but this will be verified via another scan. He has doctor appointments lined up for the next month or so before he starts treatment. 5/23 – George V sends his thanks for the prayers on behalf of his wife, when she had a heart valve replacement. The procedure went very well and she is doing great in the rehab program. But prayers are still needed. There are indications of problems in her lymph nodes that showed up in the scans checking her heart. She will have a biopsy in June, as well as a biopsy on a skin lesion that is looking suspicious. Thank you for all prayers. 5/26 – Doof posted a request for prayers for his mom. She is back in the hospital. She is very weak from one or more infections, and is sleeping a lot. She isn’t really talking when she is alert for a few minutes. 5/27 – Grannysaurus Rex asked for prayers for Sherry, a co-worker, who is being tested for possible cancer of the blood. 5/29 – Bulg requested prayers for his sister, her husband, their four children, and the rest of the family as his sister is dying. She is in palliative care in the hospital, with a lot of blood clots, and is not expected to last long.
6/5 Update – Bulg asks for continued prayers for his sister and the family. He visited, and her condition had improved a lot. She was conscious and lucid. Bulg and his brother had a nice visit with their sister, and also got to visit with her family (husband, kids, grandkids). Bulg is grateful for the reconciliation with his sister and prays that she may be with them for a long while. 5/29 – huerfano requested prayers for her brother, R, whose appendix “got hot”. Luckily he was with his daughter, who got him to ER quickly, and surgery was scheduled for 5/29.
6/6 Update – R had surgery, but his appendix was already leaking, so the surgery was more complicated and required lavage of his internals. He has been back at his daughter’s house since 6/1, and is thinking he’s ready to go home. Unfortunately, that’s 500 miles. 5/29 – Beltway Elite posted that s/he had just signed forms for her/his mom to enter hospice. Mom’s quality of life has been declining since she had a stroke several years ago, and she hasn’t been able to speak or swallow solid food recently. 5/30 – RandomDave posted that he would appreciate prayers as he searches for work. He has had some good job prospects/interviews over the past week. 6/2 – Ellipsis (…sent in an update. We had prayed for a friend of hers who was going through cancer treatment. It’s been a little over a year, and her port is out now and her hell is over. She is battered and bruised, but clear. Thank you to the Horde for prayers, and praise to Jesus. 6/4 – Teresa in Fort Worth’s niece (Amanda) received a heart transplant a few months ago. One of the complications of that was that her kidneys started failing, and she needed a kidney transplant. On 6/3, she received a new kidney and it appears to be working. Hallelujah! The family is so grateful for the gift from the donor’s family. 6/6 – Skip requested prayers for his boss and wife. Their oldest daughter passed away the day before her 30th birthday. They had also lost a son some years ago unexpectedly. They still have 2 daughters. 6/9 – “A” requested prayers for a long-time friend now suffering from Alzheimer’s Disease, who just fell and broke his hip. He came out of the anesthetic really confused. His wife and family also need prayers of support and strength to help him.

Why is it that the Bialetti Moka Express pot that I use to make my coffee in is claimed to be their 6 cup model but it only fills my coffee mug once?

I didn't get this to annie's stew this week, but humbly request prayers for a friend. She has been diagnosed with liver duct cancer. She's been in the hospital for almost two weeks, beginning with an ER situation, and fears she's never getting out of it.
If you can spare a prayer to lift Lisa up for healing and hope, I would appreciate it.
Thanks so much to Teresa in FW for her advice and encouragement.

During a recent call with my BIL, it came to pass that the HS at which he teaches made allowances for citizen challenged students to remain at home to avoid detention during a crackdown by ICE. It will surprise no one that he teaches at a Jesuit affiliated HS.

She's destroyed every relationship she has ever been a part of and continues to spread hate and discontent to everyone she touches. It's sad really but she appears possessed and tormented and thus, is given to torment all around her.

That's because it's measured in Euroweenie "cups." The Moka pot brews a very strong coffee. Apparently the cup size is related to Espresso cups.
My 3 cup Moka yields roughly a 4 oz. pour of coffee. I froth-up 4 oz of heated whole milk to get an extra 4 oz of froth, and make a decent Cappuccino. Mrs. Cop likes a Cafe Americano (hot water instead of milk) instead.

Just catching up on the Tech Thread. It never ceases to amaze me how greedy and selfish people are. Elon Musk, as far as I know, has never taken money out of anyone's pocket. He didn't take anything from these people.
When our kids were toddlers, and not into sharing their toys, my MIL used to say "What's mine is mine and what's yours is mine, too," when they argued over the toy.
Pretty sad that lots of people never got past that stage.
I love that Elon has made cafeteria workers and welders and lots of other average people wealthy.

It all depends upon what is called the Attack Aspect. I assume the drone came from the side or front of the helicopter. I've heard that it rammed into the helicopter.
Not a particularly sophisticated attack mode, but apparently the warhead didn't detonate.

I think a major factor in Catholics falling away over the past few decades was not the Novus Ordo so much as the total hypocrisy of the leadership. When abortion was made legal, we were told to accept child murder out of respect for civil authority, which we are commanded to obey.
However, illegal immigrants are under no such requirement, and now we have bishops offering dispensations from the Mass so that they can more effectively avoid just punishment. The Catholics facing death in Africa receive no such dispensation.

Earlier this week, Little was contacted by a county sheriff, advising that she had dropped his mom off at a homeless shelter near Death Valley. She had been living out of her car for the last few years, but by this account she was on foot.
I often mention her during my Sunday prayers, but my well of emotion has for years been as arid as the desert she's wandering. Pope Leo's encyclical actually denounces government welfare and calls instead for true charity within the community. A lot of people (including nominal Catholics) are confused by actual social teachings but yes, being super-rich while people around you starve, is not being a good Christian. It's right there in the book.
He also restates that work brings dignity, and that denying people the opportunity work is a sin. No handouts, work. If you want to help the poor, find work for them to do. This is a lot out there. Really quite based.

I've got a big chore list today, so I'm sure everyone will be sad to see me leave before engaging in Boomer baiting and stirring sectarian divisions. So sad.
Before I go, please offer prayers for my father, who has been in the hospital since Tuesday dealing with cardiac issues. He's downplaying it, keeps saying he should be home any day, but he's still there. I told him that with his wife in hospice, it's time for him to get his affairs in order, and that I need a key to the house, access to his accounts, and to be added to all his medical notifications. He agreed.
He's otherwise in good health, based on his parents he probably has another decade in him, but things happen. I'm old enough to remember when 83 was considered really old, and it still is.
Before I go, please offer prayers for my father, who has been in the hospital since Tuesday dealing with cardiac issues. He agreed.
He's otherwise in good health, based on his parents he probably has another decade in him, but things happen. I'm old enough to remember when 83 was considered really old, and it still is.

Over a year ago, we got Archbishop Robert Casey to replace Arbp. Dennis Schnurr after he had to retire due to cancer. We have 3 TLM parishes within the Archdiocese.

Our Family of Parishes (we have 5 churches) is growing: we had over 30 catechumins this year. We have so many people coming into the Church that we now have a full-time coordinator that works only on that.

I used to work with a bunch of socialists at NOAA, in California about 20 years ago. The feds started to offer retirement funds that weren't based off of bond returns. They were basically 401K's. Management setup a seminar for anyone who wanted to know how these new funds worked.
About a half hour into the session the presenter started to explain in detail the actual makeup of these funds; stocks like IBM, GM, Exxon, Microsoft, etc. A couple people gasped at the mention of stocks like GM and Exxon and wanted to know how they could avoid them. Principles, you see.
They were told they couldn't. For the next 30 minutes of a 1 hour presentation they pissed and moaned about "their rights to invest" in animal and homeless shelters, food pantries, political causes on the left, and so on.
Socialists have zero concept of how investing works. But they'll gladly take your money and "invest" it in themselves.

There are so many things that get to me about him, but I think his American savvy combined with true faith puts him in a very unique position. People also forget his missionary work in Peru, where they had to deal with the Shining Path and Liberation Theology.

One of the houses in the town the church I serve is had a mass of leftist signs out. I don't read them anymore. What I do appreciate is that they also have a whole bunch of cornflower plants now blooming which I think grew naturally . I am thankful that they didn't cut them down because they are lovely!

We've been away from Michigan for 6 years now, but before Covid Siena Hts was building like crazy -- student apartments, new athletic facilities, I don't know what all. And then suddenly I hear they are closing, and they screwed a bunch of their students over with that, too. I don't know what happened. I asked my friend about it but she didn't know, either.
The best thing the Dominicans do, I believe, in Lenawee County, is provide wonderful elder care to all the Sisters. Their nursing home, on the grounds of the University, is a great place to work and they take very good care of the residents there.

Even a cursory glance at socialism shows it's insane. But I can say some equally nonsensical shit, and as long as I make sure to prey upon basic, atavistic urges, I can get millions to not just agree with me, but make my ravings the core of their identities.

Prayers up for all. A happy Saturday morning…
I do have a prayer request: Lift up my dad. He’s had some physical struggles recently with disautonomia (plunging blood pressure upon standing) and this caused him to fall and hit his head hard last week. Two days in the hospital resulted… they adjusted his blood pressure medication and though it’s a delicate balance he can now stand and walk around fine. The topper though is he mentioned to the doctor yesterday that his back’s been hurting since the fall; so X-ray done and he has a crushed vertebrae in his lumbar spine from the fall. I pray he can avoid spinal surgery and it seems he might as it could stabilize on its own. His faith is amazing… he told me he prayed while in hospital “Lord I’m in your hands whatever you want for me”… He’s a great man in my book and I’d like him around for as many more years as the Lord wills

All health insurance is a rip off. Public or private.
I paid in all my working life to Medicare. I'm now retired and still pay $2400. a year to Medicare. It comes out of my Social Security check. I go to the doctor twice a year for my meds.That is $100.00 a visit, so $200.00 a year. Medicare pays that and part of my meds. So what about the $2100.00 I did not use? It's the same with private insurance companies. You pay out the nose for it but unless you have something really bad happen, you paid in lots of money for nothing. And you still are out the deductable too.

I've been feeling stressed, and that's unusual for laid-back me. Combination of frustrations at work, moving back and forth between Mom's home and my own, internets full of vitriol...I think I just need to stay away from X for a while and get out and walk more.

This reminds me of a complaint one of my math professors had about capitalism. He said capitalism is bad because it prevents people with good ideas, but no money or influence, from being able to get funding to make their ideas a reality. I'm pretty sure that's the opposite.

The whole idea of insurance is basically unfair unless you need to use it. You should thank your lucky stars that you haven't needed it because the one time that you do, makes up for all,the time that you didn't. However, if the government dealt with all the fraud, stopped paying for illegals and their children and their elderly relatives, our rates would plummet.

TT, yes retired for a while now. When I first moved here, my grandkids were babies and I got to spends lot of time with them. Gave me purpose. Now they are in school and busy with all the activities and birthday parties. When did that become such a big thing? I live in a blue area where one needs to keep political opinions to oneself. I keep fit, get to see hirdemfriends IRL, but it just feels,like something is missing.

Found a fascinating article about Onias IV: Todd Hibbard, "Isaiah 19:18: A Textual Variant in Light of the Temple of Onias in Egypt"
Apparently this guy fled the Maccabean / Seleucid mess in [Greek] Judaea. He built his own Temple over there with blackjack and hookers.
But that's where Isaiah got translated into Greek (and Coptic). It is full of translation-choices (i.e., lies) saying that Isaiah was predicting that the Temple should be rebuilt there.
Naturally the proto-Rabbis thought it was a dumb thing to do so the Talmud mocks it, as does Josephus. It also goes (in my opinion) some distance in explaining how come later Jews thought the Greek Isaiah in-particular was bogus and needed new editions.
And why Jews today dislike when, oh, Christians refer to the Greek of Isaiah. NOT because of the parthenos thing; parthenos could mean non-virgin in the Greek Septuagint Torah. But because the Greek Isaiah was just bad overall.

We are still leasing a vehicle from a friend, who kind of needs his car back soon, but he understands our situation with the insurance. Actually, it would help out our friend if we could find someone who wants to take over his payments on his Chevy Traverse. It's a business vehicle that he doesn't need now and his business is in a contraction so he's trying to shed expenses.

Trump responded appropriately to the Kennedy Center thing. He had everything lined up to repair the place which has deteriorated significantly like other things in DC. It required shutting it down in order to do this and he had significant private funds lined up just like the ballroom. When they complained, he said fine. I wash my hands of this. Now let the board figure it out which because they are total idiots will not accomplish anything.

But when you get one who comes down with the -itis like Big Mike, WATCH OUT - it's even worse. You get all the loudness and boisterousness of black culture, but it's the opposite of fun. It's just amplified moroseness.
If I had kids with her, I wouldn't go gay, but I might consider shooting myself the moment the girls were married off. Only so much a man can bear in one lifetime.

It's been three months since my M-I-L died at age 93. Yesterday we got a notice from her Medicare Advantage provider that she was due for a medication review. Not only had that part of "The System" not yet taken note of the fact she was dead, but the medication list had three duplicate entries, three omitted meds and one med she hadn't been taking for almost two years. I suspect "The System" has issues.

I watched a three year old and his slightly older sister who was clearly minding him in the store trying to reach a 2 liter bottle of soda that was above her reach. She made two reaches for it, and then picked her brother up by the waist and held him up so he could grab it for her.

She'd received her monthly SS benefit as a direct deposit into our bank account only a few days prior. SSA took back that payment really, really fast. I mean, lightening fast.
