I know you'll never understand
Why I'm fighting til the end. But I know you'd leave me dying. You say I need a real friend, To keep me high and to pretend That there's no use in trying. I see a spirit in my sight Telling me to stand and fight. But there's nothing left to fight for. So for all my dreams forever lost. Never asking for a lot. The wild will set me free ... "Slam Frank, the critically acclaimed and provocative new musical that reimagines Anne Frank’s story “through an intersectional, multiethnic, genderqueer, Afro-Latin hip-hop lens,” will begin a limited engagement Off Broadway this September. The musical, directed by Sam LaFrage, played to sold out houses during its developmental presentation at Asylum NYC. - lol - appropriate place Inspired by a viral Twitter thread that asked, “Did Anne Frank ever acknowledge her white privilege?”, Slam Frank imagines what happens when a progressive community theater company decides to transform Anne Frank’s story into an intersectional, multiethnic, genderqueer, Afro-Latin hip-hop musical. Producers describe the musical as “part satire, part reckoning, all conversation-starter.”" When our side finally loses it and goes ape-shit, I volunteer for execution committee. My next computer is going to be a ground up build.
Posted by: Reforger There is one year grace period for those on Windows 10 that either allowed online backup or paid $25 bucks or something. But, there is a company that installs security patches (not upgrades, etc.) for old windows versions that goes back to at least Windows 7. The problem there is that you have to either use unsupported unsafe browsers or something like Supermium or the Firefox analog. If you are still running 32 bit machines, you are now pretty much SOL unless you pick one of the dwindling number of Linux distros specifically for it. I got a circa 2000 BX2 running Debian Trixie, barely, in order to remove data from a hard drive--windows 98 would no longer boot nor install. That was last summer and was the last Debian Linux 32 bit version. As soon as the insane prices for new hardware go away, I will be building one that has enough umph to run containers and get rid of my history museum of computers that still run specific useful programs that I don't want to pay to upgrade. Posted by: illiniwek To run Windows 11 comfortably, it takes a minimum of 16 gb and runs best at 32 gb or higher. To run Linux without containers, etc. it takes at least 8 gb, preferably 16 gb, and better yet at 32 gb and up. You can run Windows 11 or most distros of Linux with less than 8 but it is a slow as molasses in winter and getting frisky with windows open, etc can crash the programs. 32 GB of ram in DDR5 runs anywhere from 400-600 right now. Solid State Storage Devices made from memory chips have also skyrocketed especially in the higher capacities. Which is also dragging up prices on really old spinning rust hard drive tech. It used to be shortages of video cards driving system prices because of crypto mining, now it is AI bullshit that is gobbling up resources for frontier models. The US gov't has hidden the existence of aliens but now the evidence will finally be revealed and everyone goes nuts. Um...no. Various a-holes have been trying to reveal the "real" existence of aliens for decades. And for a while everybody was interested in the prospect, not scared, not losing their faith, just interested. But, now, I think they're just bored with the whole idea. And anyway space is Big. If you froze yourself for a 1000 years and woke up. Aliens still wouldn't be here. Apropos of nothing… that waitress on the cover of Supertramp’s Breakfast in America album is fat and ugly. I always wondered about that cover choice….

(I'm still trying to figure out what good came out of that last one)
Posted by: Darrell Harris at June 12, 2026 12:57 PM (iaLEd) COVID allowed the markets and banks to shut down instead of defaulting on their interest requirements to extend debt. It was one more step to cover up the hole left by mortgage collapse. Posted by: Kindltot at June 12, 2026 01:08 PM (rbvCR) 250
It's not just AI gobbling it up now. It's the entire pipeline and investors assuming future AI needs.
Posted by: bonhomme It is a bubble and it will pop sooner or later. Basically all three of the main AI competitors are shoveling money on hardware into the furnace in order to be top dog. Google at least has an existing revenue stream from legacy systems, Open Ai and Anthropic are dueling to be the Google alternative with investor and borrowed cash--one of those companies is likely to crash and burn because neither are going much toward general AI but rather machine learning. That requires more and more training data that simply is not there unless you start feeding your models AI slop which ends up making the models insane. If you notice, Elon is being smart by keepin xAi behind the leaders and is actually making bank renting his older Colossus hardware to his competitors for billions per month. The insane needs for frontier model creations on shorter and shorter timelines is going to go bust in the next year or so. Not enough power, not enough chips, not enough buildings, not enough water cooling, and the insane demands are pushing pricing on these resources up. Thursday previews last night indicate a $35 million opening weekend is about what it'll get in the US. If it does decently overseas, it could crawl to the break even point by the end of a two month theatrical run, but it's doubtful.

Some people complain about some of the statements he makes at times, but I'll guarantee that every public statement he makes is vetted by Trump first.

244 >>I remember being told that US funded biolabs in Ukraine were a paranoid fantasy and that merely talking about it was the same as pledging my soul and fortune to Putin.
Posted by: JackStraw It was never a secret. US after the fall of the Soviet Union was afraid that scientists would migrate to China, Iraq, Iran, North Korea, etc. in the 90's so they created a make work employment program for biological and chemical warfare scientists in the former Soviet Republics. Like always, once such a program is created, it never goes away and eventually the CIA got deeply involved in a big way with it and the program expanded to places like China and Wuhan. Knew some of the policy guys that originally set the program up as Sam Nunn and Richard Lugar were deeply involved in that. Same with retrieval of nuke stuff from those former Soviet Republics.
