First World Problems...

LowVoltageFail26.jpg

That is an under-cabinet low voltage light that takes a standard G4 two-prong bulb. Easy-peasy...right?

Except the prongs of the new bulb don't slide into the receptacle. Since the bulbs produce a startlingly large amount of heat, I am not surprised that the thing failed after many years. What does surprise me is the difficulty in replacing it. Those cables are six feet long, and the end is buried somewhere in the cabinetry. The back of the receptacle is riveted closed, so I can't remove the female side and simply replace it.

I will have to splice the wires onto a new receptacle without wire nuts, since there isn't enough room for them inside the housing. That should be interesting, in a deeply irritating way.

43 I'm dealing with the exact same problem. A puck light with a 4G 2prong halogen bulb that had worked well for over 209 years. The fixture reads 12V 4G so I ordered as 12 V bulb and plugged it in. It immediately got white hot and the bulb shattered. It then occurred to me that even though the house is on a nominally 24V DC battery bank it is inverted to 120V AC wired in 120V and those fixtures were part of the initial electrical install when we built the house. It just has to be 120 V, but I would have to tear out some drywall to trace the wiring.

Back to the internet and indeed there is a 4G two-prong 120 V replacement halogen bulb. So they are now on order and I will try that. Not sure why the fixture says 12V however.

45 My maternal grandmother’s old house (they moved out to a smaller domicile by the late seventies), dated back to the 1930s. One thing I remember is that the table lamps, although electric, were styled like oil lamps. They looked like you could fill them up and light them with a match. I don’t think they were conversions, but I think that style influenced my grandmother’s choice in lamps.

If it takes too long to light, your circuit might have too much capacitance: τ = RC, where τ is the time constant, R is the resistance, and C is the capacitance, assuming a simple “tank” circuit. 71 We have machines at work that run on battery power for a few minutes at work so the really don't " turn off and then turn on again" unless you wait about 5 minutes or so. I knew this but the operator didn't one night last week. So I turned it off. Told them not to strart it until I got back. I had a thing I needed to do. So I went and gathered a bunch of reject parts from another line. Came back about two minute later and spilled them on the floor in front of the machine. Declared "not yet" and continued the conversation. Operators are all "can we try it again?" I pick up the parts and cast them again. "Not yet. The tech gods are still unhappy."
I'm getting all kinds of WTF? looks.
An engineer walks up. I cast the parts agian. "The tech gods are happy but it must be... him. It says he is to turn the switch."
Engineer turns the switch and everything comes around.
I declare my work is done and walk off with my parts.
Then went back later and told them all they had to do was wait 5 minutes. I don't think they will forget that again.

85 My FWP is pc related. I'm surprised more people aren't having issues or they don't know enough to have issues. Microsoft decided they didn't like their own trusted platform modules so they decided that after June '26 they are no longer supported and have to be updated. After that your pc will not get every security update or any and may become much much less secure. If you have a new pc, not a problem. If it is about 5-6 yo it probably needs a bios update. This is completely unrelated to the windows support sunsetting. My problem is my pc is a prebuilt by msi. MSI also sells mobos. They update the bios for their mobos but they change the config bios code on the prebuilts so that they are not compatible with their mobo bios. And the prebuilt bios last update is 2019 and doesn't have the config required for the new TPM. I could force an update to the newer retail mobo data and very possibly/probably brick it.

So I am screwed.

My two main issues were, 1) I didn't even know a saddle had fenders, and 2) the replacement process was very difficult because you had to pass the leather straps up into a leather crevice, around a fiberglass structural rib, if it was an airplane I would've called that piece a longeron, and then back out the same crevice.

Unlike the outer smooth and finished part of a saddle the internal leather parts are about as rough as course grit sandpaper. I finally managed it with a pair of needle nose plyers but my knuckles are bloody and raw.

The whole time I was thinking cowboys probably had a tool for this and I bet it looks exactly like a speculum.

If you have an event ID 1801 in your windows system log saying something like "Updated Secure Boot certificates are available on this device but have not yet been applied to the firmware" you can have tpm enabled and running fine, but it can't be updated to new crypto keys necessary for the June 26 deadline.

It won't be disabled, Microsoft has said in press releases that they will simply deny them their essence, errr further security updates.

I really don't blame MS for this one issue. It really is on MSI deciding their prebuilt desktops aren't allowed to get bios updates for their mobos. Even if it is the exact same mobo as the ones that do. Mine has a MAG Z390M MORTAR, which has a '24 update that would solve this, but they change the bios code of their prebuilts so the mflash utility doesn't allow updating with it.

Welcome to every day in anime fandom.

Although we complain when the subtitles and the English dub match. "Dubtitles" suck. Subtitles should be closer to the original intent, and leave in the Japanesey things. Dubs can be totally Americanized for people who don't know what a rice ball is or why they're adding -san to everyone's name.

Looked it up, here in Kentucky, if a us senator dies, the governor (fucking Beshear) would appoint a replacement (hard commie) until a special election.

166 If Beshear appoints a lib, does that change the decision for Mainers much? Platner becomes a tad less important at least until the special election. If it takes their eye off the ball even for a little time it's good thing, right?

I've watched enough horror movies to see duct tape used for some pretty nasty injuries.

Oh, Corner Gas today.

Brent - "I've never seen a horror movie."

Mom Emma - "Oh, you haven't lived until you've seen a teenager cut in half with power tools."

Brent - "I took shop class."

AI generated answer:

Under current Kentucky law, a U.S. Senate vacancy is filled exclusively through a special election, as the governor no longer possesses the authority to appoint a temporary replacement.

Legislative Change: In 2024, the Kentucky General Assembly passed House Bill 622, overriding Governor Andy Beshear’s veto to strip the governor of appointment powers.
