The SPLC Repeatedly Invokes the Fifth Amendment to Avoid Answering Whether They Used Donor Money to Pay "Extremists" to Put On "Hate" Marches, Burn Crosses, and Recruit New Members
I say he invoked the Fifth Amendment, which he did. But the words he kept using were "We will address those allegations in court." In other words, I will not answer questions for which I will be held criminally responsible in another court.
That's his right, but: 1, why are people allowed to invoke the Fifth without explicitly invoking the Fifth? I bet you Democrats would demand to know what basis a witness has for refusing to answer. and, 2, he's a fucking criminal, he knows he broke the law, and this is not some kind of principled invocation of the Fifth. He's guilty and his answers would either confirm his guilty or deny it, which would be obstruction of Congress because he'd be lying.Here's some of his repeated refusal to aswer on the basis that he will be answering these questions in criminal court. A lot of money, and some bodily fluids, flowed from the SPLC to their "informants."

Not a thing that the Senate or the Presidency can do to counter it within the legal, political sphere.
But that doesn't happen because the House doesn't want it to be that way. Whatever reason it is (inertia, laziness, IC corruption, all of the above), Congress could be real powerful if it chose to be. It just chooses not to be.
So, the executive is left with all the levers of power, and our side hasn't had access to those levers since the 80s.

We got into the idea of the Abrams and Apache and such because we were truly outnumbered against the Soviets. So we had to have super-weapons. Stuff that - regardless of cost - could pull of 10/1 kill ratios. Because that was our only chance against the Red Menace.
Well. Now the game has changed. Because the cost to bring one of our super-weapons down is much, much cheaper than our cost of building one.

You're correct, high value weapons are now extremely vulnerable to low cost attacks, and although there will be countermeasures eventually, what they will be is not apparent yet.

Actually, I do. There are some very good technical people from the USSR days who ended up in Ukraine, along with their skills and their weapons factories. I remember a very interesting piece on their tech written about a year and a half ago, detailing how the Ukrainians had set up an information pipeline from the frontlines to the tech developers as to effectiveness and requirements. And that while most field recommendations take years before it translates into a new design, the Ukrainians had set up a system where field recommendation to design change happened on a 2 week timeframe.
they're on something like their 20th generation of drone tech already, which could never have happened without the pressure of being in a war that you're almost losing.

Using a slow flying drone on a helicopter would be about the only flying target it could hit. If it was intentional. The Apache's have been known to shoot down a variety of IRGC drones, but it is considered very risky to do so because of the potential for an air-to-air collision.

The only interesting part of the Ukraine war is the tech development, since drone tech has had about 100 years of advancement in the last 4, thanks to that battlefield. You're correct, high value weapons are now extremely vulnerable to low cost attacks, and although there will be countermeasures eventually, what they will be is not apparent yet.

With MS moving to cloud OS, whereby most remote desktop functionality is available via a web browser, there is virtually no need for a Windows laptop for mobile work, unless you are tied to something like Adobe, etc.

we discussed that last thread, that's a gross misrepresentation of what is actually just a standard jury instruction in a case like this. He said that IF the jury wants to convict for the offense of manslaughter instead of murder, they are allowed to. It's up to the jury, not the judge.
and also, as stated in the earlier thread, Texas treats murder1/2/manslaughter differently than other states, and in light of extenuating or aggravating circumstances, it's possible for a manslaughter conviction to carry a higher sentence than a murder conviction.

For better or worse, Trump is laser focused on the nuclear material retrieval and is not willing to go much beyond that. Regime overthrow internally is simply not going to happen in the short run but without nuclear potential, Iranian threats can be contained even by the other Arab countries with the US as a backstop.
Israel's calculus is a bit different, they want to take out as much of their enemies that are directly adjacent to them as they can before peace/binding ceasefire arrives in one form or another. Even if we leave with the nuke materials, Israel knows it will still be a target absent the IRGC being totally overthrown.
That is the conflict and anyone dreaming of US forces putting boots on the ground to overthrow the IRGC is smoking crack. Trump nor the American people favor that period nor is our army set up for it. Putting US troops in kill boxes like Kharg Island etc. is also a no go as eventually some people are going to get killed even by simple old rockets, etc.
Destroying Iran's oil facilities/bridges etc. is what Trump has as leverage which is why he is playing it cool.

And that is where the courts have made a mess of things along with statutory law. States that have moved to guilty but insane verdicts allow killers to be permanently incarcerated for a long stretch at state mental institutions for the criminally insane. Frankly, M'Naughton's rule has been destroyed by technology today and the fact that forced medication can alleviate some of these people's insanity but when released, they inevitably, quit their medication and resume their street life criminal behavior.
Incapacitating those unable to restrain themselves from violent criminal behavior is a key requisite of law and not doing so by opening the doors to the asylums has killed/maimed a lot of innocent people including other street people.
Locking them up for good is probably the best bet but the humane part is making sure it is a mental health facility where treatment is made rather than untrained personnel in prison trying to do it.

He is a juvenile and due to Justice Kennedy's horrendous CJ decisions where he was the deciding vote (like invalidating Louisiana's death penalty for child rapists, and forestalling capital punishment, then even life in prison for underage criminals) cannot be locked up in prison without a chance for release. Anyone under 18 cannot be locked up in prison without a chance of parole/release (retroactive actually) nor put to death no matter how awful the crimes they commit are. That is the mess that Scotus has done to criminal law recently and thank god Kennedy is off the court.

And I guarantee you once the trial is over, all the past warning flags of Karmelo's past are going to come out for sentencing. Not considered relevant for trial but I suspect a long chain of uncharged or hidden juvie records sudden pop up.
Murderers by and large don't snap--that is the conceit of movies and tv. In reality, they apprentice themselves to the criminal lifestyle until ready for the big dirty deed. Some never become violent, just career burglars, sneak thieves, shoplifters, car boosters, etc.
Others, particularly the stupid ones, like to be street thug ganstas with violent crimes as that is the only way they feel they can get 'respect' is by being feared.

But in this country, at this time, I can't support the death penalty. Not with these criminals running the place.
So the obvious fallback is life-in-prison, but then you have states like Texas, where it's realistically a 20 sentence, even for a 17 year old.
So, off he'll scamper as an old duffer in his mid-thirties.

Kennedy's innovations include the deluded gay marriage fiasco as well as killing innocents by his refusal to protect them by siding with criminals.

Microsoft is a dying relic of a company like Adobe is that is now intent on milking every single bit of profit before rolling over and corporate death occurring. I think both of them think AI is going to do in their markets and so they will try to keep those subscriptions of kept customers and milk them for as long as they can.
I think Apple is a better long term bet than MS quite frankly and if you noticed just recently the eternal MS Office license for the Mac 2019 was just terminated by Microsoft to reduced functionality. So people buying the perpetual license in 2019 find that Microsoft is revoking it in 2026 to force them into the subscription model for Office.

I think more people might do that except Linux itself is a mess for people that just want to turn on a computer and have it work perfectly. A huge number of choices often end up in analysis paralysis. And you have to be careful what to pick for peripherals to work well with Linux which most people have no idea how to do so.
Linux still has a problem with drivers and its compatibility with MS Office is just enough off that it can create problems. For the unsophisticated, I think Apple Macs are the better bet despite being expensive and Crapple using their gated garden techniques to make everything much more expensive than it needs to be.
For better or worse, Apple still makes its money as a hardware company rather than software which means forcing upgraded hardware at some point. Linux lets you use even back to 486/386 or earlier machines that really still function but are technologically antique.
Linux is just now getting rid of kernal inclusion and updates for these 25-30 year old machines. But as a result, Linux is still mainly for geeks .
