Some good news from beckster: One of Gavin Newsom's gerrymandered seats just backfired.

Apparently -- remember, the Third World State of California takes weeks to count votes so who knows what the Mail-In Votes from Somalia will show.

But assuming that current vote totals are indicative of the Somali Mail-In vote...

Rather than producing a Democrat, the new seat will produce either a Republican or a former Republican who switched to "Indpendent" just for this race who caucuses with Republicans.

Because those two men made it through the jungle primary and now face each other in the general.

26 I think this issue of a gerrymandered district "backfiring" is a live one, not just in CA-6. Depending on the electorate of a given area, in order to draw D+ districts sometimes requires some pretty slim "+" margins. Which of course don't hold in some cycles.

Those following things closely would have details. I think VA's abortive redistricting actually contained 2 to 3 very slim/dicey "D+" districts (this is what can happen when a 53-47 state is supposed to be represented by 10-1 ratio in the House, or whatever it was).

92 I think this issue of a gerrymandered district "backfiring" is a live one, not just in CA-6. Depending on the electorate of a given area, in order to draw D+ districts sometimes requires some pretty slim "+" margins. Which of course don't hold in some cycles.

Those following things closely would have details. I think VA's abortive redistricting actually contained 2 to 3 very slim/dicey "D+" districts (this is what can happen when a 53-47 state is supposed to be represented by 10-1 ratio in the House, or whatever it was).

For the last couple of decades they have stockpiled blood from all newborns born in the state. They, then, held onto these blood samples for 23 years, AND FREELY SHARED THESE SAMPLES WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT-STATE AND FEDERAL without a warrant. This was all done covertly until it was discovered by a clerk and word got out.

The still are allowed to stockpile these blood samples for a long as 10 years (after the lawsuits)....and they still share with law enforcement under more strict guidelines (IOW, at their discretion)...and still don't require a warrant. So, if you were born in NJ in the last 3 decades, you are in the DNA database. And, there is an indication that this process began as long as 50 years ago.

This is also the case in Florida. A lot of the redrawn “red” districts are very slim red. And based off 2024 votes. In 2026 some these could well be blue if just a small % of 2024 voters switch.

It’s easy to make Mass 9-0 because there are only 9 seats. But with a state as big as Florida (both geographically and population wise) or California there’s only so much juice you can squeeze out of gerrymandering before it starts backfiring.
