Well, that and using a VPN so that they appear to be in the right general geographical region, but mostly because Instagram support is used to dealing with dumbasses who keep forgetting their passwords.
Multiple laptop makers are preparing to launch models with Nvidia's new RTX Spark chip and eye-watering price tags. (The Verge)

Look at models with AMD's AI Max chips for a guideline, and add between 50% and 100% on top of that.
Wizards of the Coast are reportedly in the process of remaking the classic computer games Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate 2. (WCCFTech)

Baldur's Gate 3, developed externally by Larian, was a massive hit, but Larian found Wizards of the Coast so toxic to work with that they want nothing to do with DLC or a sequel.
AMD's Radeon 9070 GRE is a thing that exists. (Tom's Hardware)

Actually it has existed as a China-only product for a year now and the only change was the global release, so there are already plenty of reviews of its technical capabilities. What's new is the price, and the price is awful.

At $400 it would be interesting. Below $400, compelling. It costs $550 - as much as the faster and readily available Radeon 9070.

People wonder that? I I don't . I think social media is one of the worst inventions of humankind. From what I can figure out from reading various websites ,it seems to be mostly people insulting each other. I can get crabby and cranky, but I'd really rather insult people in person😉

I spent around $200.00 on supplements on Amazon to combat my cancer tonight after talking with a friend that is winning his battle against it by taking them.

In other news I'm looking for a new computer, probably a laptop as I no longer have the urge to build one. Pixy recommendations welcome for a mid range rig for mild gaming are most welcome.

There really are only two laptops worth considering, the Lenovo Legion 5 and MSI Vector HX.

The the vector has more raw horsepower, but it’s going to cost slightly more and it’s really a desktop shaped like a laptop in that it’s a big honking laptop that your not going to be taking anywhere and it’s going to have to be plugged in most of the time.

Not hacker, attacker.

And having just read the article, it's because Meta (Instagram) allowed their chatbot/AI the right to change users' account details (like their email address) so the attacker used that in order to claim they were the account owner and wanted their email address changed.

After the email address change is made, the attacker simply goes to the login page, and clicks on a "Forgot my password" link, and gets emailed the password-reset link, and continues with the process, creating a new password for the account.

This is going to become a security nightmare with service providers for a while, at least the stupid ones - which is a lot of them.

hm. I used to grow my hair long and it was so curly that when it was dry, it was down just past my shoulders and when it was wet, it was past the middle of my back. I like to say that I resembled an unfortunate cross breed of Billy Squier and Brian May.

But one day in Aikido, I was getting taken down and my hair was getting grabbed several times when the opponent grabbed my collar. So I walked into the local Vietnamese barber shop and said "Get rid of it." Relief might be a good word for it.

I mentioned this yesterday. I finally got that mythical pension payout from Fidelity Investments, from a job I held '78-'87 and had forgotten about. It was last Nov. when they wrote to me, and there have been various and incompetent delays. Yesterday I at last got the check (which was pleasantly larger than I'd thought) . . . and they had taken taxes out under the impression it was a direct payment to me. This despite my written election for a direct rollover to my IRA. I called and yelled bloody murder, and they say they don't have the account name and number. I *know* I uploaded the correct form. Yet they sent me this without checking with me. And they told me more than once that they had to send me the direct rollover check for *me* to forward. Today? "Oh, no, we can send it to whatever account you select." (!!!!)

They swear they will fix it. I'm writing a stiff but polite letter to the CEO this week. And if you have accounts with Fidelity, I suggest you double-check them.

47 A nasty 77 F. outside this am. We'll have rain today and tomorrow, we're told, a low chance on Thurs., and then higher chances again -- perhaps keeping the daily high temp down a bit -- all through the weekend.

Since it's gotten so hot and humid, I've decided I need to cut my workouts down in length and maybe do more of them in a week. Which means going today. Gah.

The furry thugs are well. They have such good lives; they know where their food is coming from, they're loved and played with and combed, and they don't have to worry about workouts, delayed pension payouts, or house purchases.

Parents used to leave the little monsters home with a babysitter if they went out. They understood that children usually cannot behave in a civilized manner until they are older. Now we get those earsplitting shrieks from the toddlers at the next table.

When friends of mine had their first kid, they went out to a restaurant when he was about 6-8 months old. They paid for the meal ahead of time and told the waiter, they'd leave if he got too disruptive.
