Got an unquenchable thirst? How about some, (checks notes), FEET JUICE?!? Cosplay Models Shock Internet by Selling “Feet Juice” at California Anime Festival ![]() Anime conventions can get pretty wild, but when’s the last time you attended an event where cosplay models were selling actual “foot juice”, as in fruit juice from plastic buckets in which they had dipped their feet? Despite the product’s unconventional nature, the $10-15 price tag wasn’t enough to deter potential clients, and according to multiple reports, the foot juice sold out in less than an hour. *** Photos and videos from Parkon 2026 show young girls in cosplay holding up signs with foot juice offers while having their naked feet dipped in juice, and some even offering to let customers drink the juice dripping directly from their wet feet.Yup - it's real. There was this scam device that was supposed to purify/clean your body through electricity. You would put your feet in a tank of water, add some chemicals, put some electrodes in the tank, switch on the voltage, and the water would turn red like that. I wonder if that’s what she used?

Just watched a 1949 film noir with Lloyd Bridges called Trapped. Only two things were odd or notable about it, though it was entertaining. During a chase scene in a paper mill late in the film, the movie appeared to be in color -- though the rest is certainly in B & W. (I admit I might have been half-dreaming while staring at the screen.)
The odd thing is the casting. Bridges does not play the hero, one of the Secret Service guys trying to stop some high-quality counterfeit plates from getting out. No, he's the crook who originally made them. And John Hoyt plays the central SS guy who eventually takes the ring down! Hoyt, you'll remember, was a standby on TV in the '60s. He played the ship's doctor, Boyce, on the first Trek pilot; and he was in that ]i]Twilight Zone where a motley group is stuck at a diner, and one of them may be an actual alien from another planet. Turns out two of them are, and one is Hoyt -- as a Venusian. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at May 28, 2026 10:32 PM (wzUl9) 139

"In the warm afternoon sun of this bustling summer festival, we witness one of the more curious rituals of human behavior. Here, a young female of the species stands behind her modest stall, proudly offering her signature creation: foot juice.
With remarkable dedication, she squeezes and presses, extracting the precious liquid while a small but brave queue of festival-goers gathers before her. Some appear hesitant, others strangely intrigued by this exotic elixir. Observe how she moves with practiced grace, her hands working tirelessly as she presents each cup with a bright, hopeful smile. One cannot help but marvel at the mysterious human impulse that draws people not merely to refreshment, but to this most unusual of beverages. Truly, in all the varied wonders of the natural world, few sights are quite as delightfully peculiar as this young woman and her foot juice at the height of festival season." Don't know why some B&W just look like that.
As I recall the advent of color, much like the advent of sound, was initially used only in parts of movies. Very quickly it became an all or nothing thing (or used for meaning as in The Wizard of Oz) but movies where only a few scenes were in color did exist. Few of them remain because most of them were also distributed in full black and white to the majority of theaters. This could of course be a misremembered Cliff Claven style fact either in whole or in part. Posted by: Stephen Price Blair at May 28, 2026 11:00 PM (kYmoU) 207

My younger sister is obese. I think they just reach a point where they give up
——- “I don’t need to tuck in my shirt, it looks fine”. Hm, it goes downhill from there. I have a portable generator, about the size of a chunky suitcase, and weighs about 50 pounds. It is insane to carry around that much extra fat. I was about 80 pounds to the high side, and finally decided I wasn’t going to live like that. One thing I didn’t realize, when someone gets super obese, every thing they do revolves around factors we don’t think about. Is the place I need to go, is it on the second floor? Are there steps involved? Well that poses a problem. They have to plan everything out from a logistics standpoint. What about chairs? Etc. I’m sure it’s all very depressing, contributing to more overeating, and finally never venturing outside. Really sad. Posted by: Common Tater at May 28, 2026 11:06 PM (0gZLS) 218

I'm in the same boat timeline wise. And I'm just getting up to speed. The current Moon plans are in flux, and Isaacman and Trump admin have shaken things up. At first, I wasn't too keen on Bezos and Blue Origin -- with the Bimbos in Space and New Shepard tourist shit, but then it hit me. If we're going to get back to the Moon and build a fucking moon bases (which we should have had a long time ago), we're going to need as many hands on deck as we can. And competition is a good thing. So, I started pulling for Blue Origin, to at least give Elon some competition to do even better. And the current NASA/Artemis plans depending on both of them. Exactly. New Shepard was suborbital (hell, just straight up and down, not even much sub at all), and New Glenn is orbital. New Glenn is pretty big, a heavy-lift class. The current version they call "7 x 2", 7 first stage engines, and 2 second stage. Payload to LEO about 100K lbs. They have an even bigger version, "9 x 4" in development which would hit 150K lbs to LEO capacity, and 44K lbs to TLI capacity. At the time of the siege Tabor is reading the FBI transcript of Koresh's radio broadcast. Koresh talks of the Lion of Judah which they interpret as The Liar of Judas. Koresh also talks of the Seven Seals but the Acronyms want to know why he is talking about animals. Stupid has been going on a long time. He had a radio broadcast? His name wasn’t Koresh. It was something like Vernon Smith or whatever.
I heard they could have nabbed him at any time they wanted. He drove a distinctive car, and went into town on the regular like clockwork. But FBI funding appropriations were coming up, and they wanted a big production to show off. The standoff was getting tedious. So the story goes. About a 100 men women and children roasted. If you read the “expert” Health Expert advice, they like to claim there are dozens of reasons why Obesity is not a choice. But, in the same breath, they claim you can choose to lose the weight. So which is it? Posted by: Common Tater at May 28, 2026 11:35 PM (0gZLS) As things often do, it comes back to behavioral economics. As Upton Sinclair said, it is very difficult to get a man to understand something, if his salary depends upon his not understanding it. In fact, that applied to him: he was a professional socialist, so his career depended upon not understanding how the power of incentive makes socialism impossible. Indeed, market economics explains that value is subjective, so the 'psychic' salary of goodfeelz is real and counts. So, it is very difficult to get a man to understand something, when his goodfeelz depend upon his not understanding it. And for the obese, that may include how to lose weight by eating less. The power of incentive could make them functionally retarded. Posted by: SciVo at May 29, 2026 12:53 AM (Sy6m/) 355

307 Calories in, calories out. It's a pretty simple equation.
Posted by: Mike Hammer, etc., etc. at May 29, 2026 12:00 AM (XeU6L) Little more complicated than that, when you are really losing weight. Getting enough protein is usually an issue, since you are limited on calories so any protein takes up a fair bit of that. Then there is the slowdown of metabolism which occurs when the body is detecting starvation. So, yeah, you can just diet, but you are likely to lose muscle before much fat, and then your metabolism slows down, and you have to eat less.... Yes, I'm being watched closely by my doc, who tested my metabolism and is checking blood sugar levels, etc. Just not eating causes more problems than it solves. Yes, the gentlest way is about a daily 500 calorie deficit, which works out to about a pound a week, and may be effectively the same as the maintenance diet for your target weight, so that you wouldn't even have to change anything when you get there.
One problem is that the lack of visible results can crush motivation. Another is that it's small enough for the body to just drop the basal metabolism by that amount and negate it for no effect at all. So the ideal isn't actually practical for everyone. In practice, it can be threading between the Scylla and Charybdis of different pitfalls. Posted by: SciVo at May 29, 2026 01:29 AM (Sy6m/) 364

Well, I've been watching some zoomed-in slow motion replays of the New Glenn "anomaly" as they're calling it. They tried to light off the engines earlier, but something went wrong. Those NSF guys who watch everything 24/7 noticed the sound suppression system was started, but nothing happened. So there was some problem that aborted the engine start. Later, they tried again and the engines were lit off. But from the start, it was much brighter than normal. And then, with the very bright lower fire plume, just as I thought I saw, the second stage did blow. And then the whole thing went up in that massive fireball. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at May 29, 2026 01:42 AM (w6EFb) 366
Another wild thing (I hate to say "cool" for this) was you'll note little vapor trail looking things coming off the top of the fireball moving much faster than the fireball was expanding. Turns out those were these little very high pressure gas tanks (helium and others). The got a little hole punched in them, and that high pressure gas just launched them off at very high speed. Now, for these, the vehicle is in a full flight configuration -- you want everything to be as it will be at a real launch -- so the 2nd stage was loaded with LOX and LH2. The real launch was planned to be on June 4th. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at May 29, 2026 02:06 AM (w6EFb) 376

Which is one of the reasons that I don't subscribe to the "Gluten Free" fad. Most studies show that gluten has pro-biotic qualities (similar to yogurt). And, while I can understand the necessity for some gluten-free products to accomodate those with Celiac disease, it should be the exception IMO, not the rule. Instead, as usual, it would appear that the few dictate to the many.

Leveraging coarse moon regolith: 1. Mechanical Interlocking in Geopolymers and Lunar Concrete The angular, irregular particle shapes enhance mechanical bonding in geopolymer mixes and other regolith-based materials. Sharp edges and rough surfaces improve interlocking within the binder matrix (e.g., alkali-activated aluminosilicates), contributing to higher compressive and shear strengths compared to rounded aggregates Posted by: 13times at May 29, 2026 04:18 AM (/LwQg) 420
