Texas Republicans delivered major victories for conservatives Tuesday night, as state Sen. Mayes Middleton defeated Rep. Chip Roy in the Republican runoff for attorney general while Attorney General Ken Paxton ousted longtime Sen. John Cornyn in a closely watched Senate primary. . . .Roy’s defeat marked a significant setback for Washington Republicans who had rallied behind the four-term congressman. Roy had built a national profile as a hardline conservative in Congress and received endorsements from figures including Ted Cruz and members of the House Freedom Caucus. ...Cornyn’s loss represented one of the most significant defeats for a sitting Republican senator in recent years and underscored Trump’s dominance over GOP primary voters.Well, as I stated in contrast to the author of this piece, Roy's record despite the labels and endorsements has been spotty at best. I'll leave it to all our Texas commenters to weigh in as to whether I'm off base or not. Be that as it may, Look at who Ken Paxton is facing off against: The Texas church where Democrat James Talarico has delivered his radical sermons is pushing radical gender ideology on children, featuring books filled with sexually explicit content and transgender ideology. Talarico, the Democrat nominee for the crucial Senate election in November, attends St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Austin. There, children have access to a library stocked with “banned books” that promote ideas rejected by most Christians, including books that contain descriptions of anal rape, incest, and oral sex, according to a Daily Wire review of its offerings.Oh yes indeed, all you John Cornyn fans, here's your golden opportunity to get on board the Talarico train. I want to thank Senator John Cornyn for his years representing our state. We don’t agree on everything, but we both still believe in public service. To Senator Cornyn’s supporters: you have a place in our campaign. When I said train, I meant in cattle cars on your way to a gulag to get forcibly sterilized. I would think Talarico doesn't have a snowball's chance in hell, certainly not with this background. And yes Texas is indeed a deep if not the deepest of red red states. But with the nation now really on a knife edge we can no longer tolerate the business as usual of go-along-to-get-along RINO grifters because since the ascendancy of Obama, the Democrat Party is now openly out to seize absolute power by any and every means necessary. The Trump miracle put the brakes on that and so the freak flags are flying in the breeze as the stolen election of 2020, the political persecutions, assassination attempts, riots, judicial coup, bureaucratic insubrdination, censorship and political violence against any and all voices of opposition have amply demonstrated. Shifting gears now, as CBD and I discussed, that is yammered incessantly about, on the latest episode of the podcast, linked here and in the sidebar as well as on the popular platforms listed below, AI is becoming more and more prevalent. But like every other invention nnd technological development, from the wheel and fire all the way up to nuclear science, it can be used for good or for evil. And speaking of which: ...Wynton Hall, author of Code Red: The Left, the Right, China, and the Race to Control AI talked about OpenAI. Hall said, “OpenAI has now contracted with 400,000 members of teachers’ unions to start to bake into the curriculum…all their tools.”Letting Teachers' unions control AI is like allowing Iran to have nuclear weapons. Which, surprise surprise, we also discussed. The news that President Trump has taken the unusual step of calling a full Cabinet meeting Wednesday suggests that, among other things, he’s exploring ways to jump-start the maddeningly slow talks with Iran.Of course the problem is Trump's watch will come to an end at noon on January 21 2029. Was the era of Donald Trump a one-off, a speed bump on the road to hell that our nation had or has been on for decades or has President Trump not only slammed on the brakes but has he succeeded in throwing us into reverse and putting America back on track towards sanity? The removal of saboteurs and fools like Massie and now Cornyn is a good sign, but the GOP must be utterly purged as we can see from this abomination of a back-stabbing out of South Carolina. Only time will tell. Have a great day,

Greetings and good morning, one and all. We're almost at the end of the rains that have been drenching the area and will be resuming our normal weather program. The second area of [ IRS ] focus concerns fiscal sponsorship, an arrangement through which a nonprofit “sponsor” houses a “project” group, providing it with administrative support and allowing it to make use of the sponsoring nonprofit’s tax-exempt status in exchange for a fee. Fiscal sponsorship has become increasingly common, and it offers legitimate benefits. However—intentionally or not—it can also conceal details about the sponsored projects from public scrutiny. Those sponsored projects do not file their own Form 990s, and the current version of the form does not require nonprofits to disclose their fiscal sponsorship activities; in practice, very few do.

I worry Talerico's Christian identity will galvanize the White Nationalist Christians against him. They see him as more threatening than a secular liberal. His “woke” Christianity is seen as traitorous to the cause of White Nationalist Christians, and Turncoats stir more passionate opposition than other out group members.
His appeal isn’t supposed to be to them. His appeal is supposed to be two people that are more in the middle. The thought processes, they look at him and they see him as more similar to a Christian Neighbor, who isn’t too much of a zealot. The hope is all other religious people will vote for Talarico because he is very faith based and they see similar values. It will be interesting to see which faction wins. A lot of (liberal) people I know moved to Texas in the last 3-4 years so hoping that new younger populace will combine with them and push Talarico on top IMO it will put an end to the lie that most of the "Christian" voters in the republican pay actually GAF about their faith. My experience had proven to me that morality and following Jesus's teachings do not play into their decisions. They forget Jesus died as a radical. The German federal government and municipalities are the major fiscal losers of 2026. The partly dramatic collapse in tax revenues reveals two things: the transformation disaster is staggering toward its end, and citizens are being squeezed by the state like lemons until the very last moment.
No matter how you spin it, the tax party of Germany’s welfare-state engineers is over. In the first four months of the year, Germany’s total tax intake developed into a fiscal catastrophe. During that period, the federal government, states, and municipalities collected 2% less revenue than a year earlier. Posted by: SMOD at May 27, 2026 07:53 AM (QqoO+) 50

>>Then why negotiate at all?
First, because the people who keep advocating for blowing up Iran never seem to say what comes next. As we have seen over and over and over in the ME that is a very bad plan. Look what happened in Iraq. Look what happened in Libya. Look what happened in Syria. There will always be a day after the war and if the right steps aren't done to win the peace we will be stuck in another protracted war in the ME. And if you look what Trump is doing he is demanding our "friends" in the ME like SA and Qatar join the Abraham Accords to unite the region in a common purpose that isn't killing infidels for a change. Let them help with the rebuild and keep a closer eye on Iran. Finally, negotiations take time to get right. Lots of people whose biggest negotiation in life was buying a car keep insisting this go faster. Why? Time is on Trump's side not the mullahs. Trump's pressure is political. The mullahs is existence. The most pressure is on them and the longer they take the worse shape they are in. Let Trump do his thing. Worst case the deal falls apart and then we bomb. But that is a break glass scenario not the first choice. Posted by: JackStraw at May 27, 2026 08:35 AM (viF8m) 164

But we do know they are losing 100s of millions a day on the one product that overwhelmingly drives their economy, oil. We also know they are experiencing Zimbabwe type inflation and food has got to be getting scarce. Tehran had a huge problem with water before the war started, I don't see how it could've gotten better since. Iran is a tough nut to crack. We all know they are run by religious freaks who don't tell the truth and don't act rationally. If a president had stepped up years ago to do the right thing this problem could have been dealt with then. We all want this over but I want it done right so we aren't dealing with it again in a couple years and I don't want yet another endless occupation of a ME country. Posted by: JackStraw ======= I think it is probable that Iran was run more or less as a military dictatorship masked by Khameini and the clerics for years now--since the Green Revolt. The IRGC basically directed the economy with a large share of owning businesses in Iran and was about the only means of social mobility in an economy ruined by excessive military spending at home and terror and influence operations abroad. The IRGC avoided outright conflict but by bringing in Iraqis, Lebanese, etc. as proxy regime forces to oppress the people, indicates that they don't think their own troops will do it. Where does that leave the US? Pretty clear that any restart or attempts to get the nuclear material will result in strikes. Unclear about their missile program but probably there new production has been hit hard by strikes. Putting aside the issue of controlling the House in 2027, when 51% of the people can vote for a map that gives them 91% of the representatives, it is unhealthy for the republic. It is independents and Republicans upset at high gas prices. To some extent, I think that is the only weapon Iran has left--to cause pain and disruption by keeping the Persian Gulf shut from exports to the oil users. For the US, we are in the curious position of actually not depending on the Gulf anymore for oil and even high prices results in US income staying at home compared to previous oil shocks which in turn is going to get plowed into more drilling, etc. Short run pain, longer run more bullish. Their "mission" is to "revitalize democracy by actively engaging individuals, organizations, and the media in the pursuit of progressive solutions to economic, environmental, racial, and social justice issues." It appears that The Sanders Institute has held conferences three times since 2018. The institute has taken in no less than $875,000 and as much as $2.4 million.

Posted by: banana Dream ======== Success is preventing Iran from having nukes and terrorizing the Gulf. Both are accomplished without boots on the ground by naval and air force power. Regime change is not--we don't have the human intel information and thus rely on Israel for on ground information. Taking out missile bases and nuke sites, that can be done via sat and aerial intel. So we simply cannot assume regime change will occur; it may occur or may not for a time. I know enough of the literature in that field to figure out most people are blithering idiots on the subject and the real experts (not on TV or podcasts) aren't talking. So diplomacy and military strikes--with infrastructure strikes as the big club because it will end the ability of Iran to pay its bills and rebuild. The backbenchers who follow leadership, make no noise, but get the grunt work of staying in DC for a week while the rest go home to gavel sessions in and out are so far down the list that they might as well not exist. Pizza Hut is officially bringing back the CLASSIC dine-in experience at select locations across the country… and Texas has several of them! Friday nights, arcade machines, personal pan pizzas, and those unforgettable red cups that somehow made the soda taste better. There is a non-zero chance that the nuclear material was destroyed in the strikes and the arguments are actually about inspections to ensure it.
UE-60 is stored in gaseous form, and any break in their containment means it evaporates. Posted by: TheJamesMadison That may be unknowable unless and until either US or the Iranians get down to that level to dig it out. But the enriched uranium does not simply evaporate as it is heavier than air. It is more like it would precipitate in place rather than spread everywhere. That may be why we fear a dirty bomb usage for any residue from casks as I think it would have to be somehow cleansed and refined again from the surrounding rubble material in that case to make a nuke weapon. Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo It might be fear. I think elections have been corrupted for some time and many sitting senators have benefited from that corruption. It is also why GOP campaign consultants have pretty much concentrated on negative ads, mailers, etc. to drive down turnout rather than telling people what they are going to do. Now the Democrat campaigns are emulating that. Potemkin elections require low turnout, divisive politics, using money as a bribe to groups and individuals to keep the charade going. Big turnout threatens to overturn that model and make it unsustainable. Posted by: whig at May 27, 2026 09:33 AM (E4rtv) 335
